znModeratorSeattleRams@seattlerams_nflBy my count, that makes three 2021 Rams Captain’s no longer with the team.WhitworthHekkerWoods
znModeratorI would have liked to be in on the conversations because there is no way, from my couch, that this trade makes sense.
Well as was said in the thread, it’s a 6th rounder because the Rams let Woods choose the team he went to, and he chose the Titans…and that’s all they were offering.
Okay, but sending Woods where he wants to go could be a consideration, but surely if another team offered something better – a 4th, say – business is business. They might give him the courtesy of 10-12 slots difference, but…a SIXTH?
Well respect to Woods was the prime consideration. Personally, I get that. Respected team leader, always came through for the team. They counted respect for his choice more than the compensation.

znModeratorRams currently have the 5th-most players signed for 2022; 2nd-most $ committed to next season; 2nd-least amount of dead money; and only 5 teams have less 2022 cap space. pic.twitter.com/Hj3yNxoiR8

znModeratorSigning Allen Robinson will cancel out a compensatory pick for the Rams, but they’re still projected to land four of them https://t.co/FFTTkHiJZd

znModeratorSeattleRams@seattlerams_nflif you’re shocked that the Rams would extend a player with a big deal, and then see them move away from that player, then you certainly must be new to this team. Ogletree, Gurley, Goff, Cooks and Tavon would like to invite you to the group chat.

znModeratorChances are they gave Woods some say as to where he would be traded.
Yep.
Albert Breer@AlbertBreerOne more on Robert Woods: The Rams worked with him to find the right destination. Titans are a scheme fit—Woods is a great downfield threat off play-action and a strong run blocker—and great intangible fit. This was a tough 1 for Sean McVay, so Rams wanted to do right by Woods.
znModeratorMatthew Stafford took less than he could've gotten to help the Rams, and his cap hit is also expected to be lower in 2022 https://t.co/OzqBIBxyf1

znModeratorMore background, insight, details on the Matthew Stafford extension – such as, my sense is he could have gone higher, but left some $ on the table. Guarantee $ important here. Believe cap # also goes down significantly in '22. https://t.co/NswQnblIUA

znModeratorMatthew Stafford and the Rams have agreed to a four-year, $160M extension to finish his career in L.A., per @AdamSchefter

znModeratorIan Rapoport@RapSheetSources: The #Rams and QB Matthew Stafford are closing in on a contract extension. The Super Bowl champion cashing in. With a roster bonus due tomorrow the two sides are working on a deal ahead of that and it’s expected to get doneMore specifics on Matthew Stafford’s extension: It’s effectively a 3-year extension worth $129M — $43M a year. There are added years for cap purposes. But $43M over the next 3 of the deal. And Stafford took less than he could’ve to help build on a Super Bowl-caliber team.
znModeratorWe only get a 2023 6th round pick? Really?
Chances are they gave Woods some say as to where he would be traded. So this makes sense:
Michael Fabiano@Michael_FabianoEagles, Browns and Bears were all very interested in Robert Woods. Green Bay also but moved too slowly. Woods loved the idea of going to the Titans, and the Rams made the move. He’s traded the same day they extend Stafford so that lends credence to the idea that they needed cap space. But then to really understand this we would have to know the details on Robinson’s contract.
Here’s RW’s contract numbers:

znModeratorJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueI think there is just a lot to unpack here and it’s just not simply done in a space with limited characters. So hang tight for a minute and will try my best, definitely see your questionsMichael Fabiano@Michael_FabianoEagles, Browns and Bears were all very interested in Robert Woods. Green Bay also but moved too slowly. Woods loved the idea of going to the Titans, and the Rams made the move..Rich Hammond@Rich_HammondWell, when you win the Super Bowl, it comes with a giant bowl of Benefit Of The Doubt, but I’m just here to drop my “this is all a big mistake” so that I can either be proven correct or look stupid in 11 months. But what’s the big upside to all of this so far? A unknown in Allen Robinson, who is all of a year younger than Woods? If they do something eye-popping on defense, then the calculus changes for me..RAMS REPORT@RamsNFLReportDon’t forget that the Rams DO NOT have OBJ.At WR they have:
• Cooper Kupp
• Allen Robinson
• Van Jefferson
• Brandon Powell
• Ben Skowronek
• Tutu AtwellLouis Riddick@LRiddickESPNRobert Woods had missed 1 game/1 start in the 3 seasons prior to being injured in November ‘21. Was considered to be a guy that was irreplaceable because of how important he was to the Rams on the field and in the locker room. Rehab on track. Trade is a good one for Tennessee.Cesar @ClappedCesarI love Robert Woods next to anyone, but y’all really weren’t paying attention. They paid Arob WR1/2 money and had 3 WR’s making above 10 mill a year making them the most expensive WR room in the NFL. Sadly it was bound to happen.
znModeratorJeremy Fowler@JFowlerESPNThe Vikings have had trade interest on DE Danielle Hunter, with multiple teams inquiring and Minnesota having discussions on his future. But Hunter is poised to return to Minnesota with Vikings set to pay his $18M roster bonus, per @AdamSchefter..Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueHad heard the Rams at least explored what was possible here and I wouldn’t rule them out from continuing to assess their options in adding a pass-rusher, whether in coming days or later in the league year (like June, for example). Am reminded their aggressive move here last season didn’t come until November.
znModeratorEvery dollar of Deshaun Watson’s new five-year, $230 million deal is guaranteed, per sources, setting a new record for the highest guarantee given to an NFL player. @Browns and Watson’s agent @DavidMulugheta combine to make history.

znModeratorAdam Schefter@AdamSchefterDeshaun Watson has decided he wants to play for the Cleveland Browns in a stunning change of events, per sources. Watson has informed the Houston Texans that he now is willing to waive the no-trade clause in his contract to be dealt to Cleveland.

znModeratorWhy would the Rams trade AD? I can’t imagine any good reason to do that.
The question was “should *LA* trade AD to New York?” He was referring to a player on the Lakers with the initials AD. It was actually a fairly decent joke and well executed.
What? Donald doesn’t play for the Lakers.
You guys are just confused.
(That btw is my 2nd joke post in this thread. 😎 )

znModeratorHave not seen any serious speculation regarding what the Rams would get for Woods.
The talk is that the Rams would trade Woods to Minnesota for a primier pass rusher.
It sounds plausible on paper because the Vikes head coach, O’Connell, was McVay’s O-coordinator last season.

znModerator“If we are simply connecting dots, it should be noted that the Minnesota Vikings are also looking to offload pass-rusher Danielle Hunter, because they can’t fit his $18 million roster bonus under their salary cap before a quickly approaching due date.
He has also been injured 2 seasons in a row, which I don’t think makes him a risk, but it does make him a bit more invisible. In 2020 he was out with a herniated disk. This bit is about 2021:
from https://www.vikings.com/news/danielle-hunter-injury-pec-out-2021-season

The Vikings defense has suffered a devastating blow, as Minnesota will be without perhaps its best player going forward.
Vikings Head Coach Mike Zimmer announced Monday that defensive end Danielle Hunter tore a pectoral muscle and will miss the remainder of the 2021 season as he is headed for Injured Reserve.
Hunter, a two-time Pro Bowler, played just 27 snaps in Week 8 against the Cowboys and was injured in the second quarter.

He’s good.

znModeratorThis also tells us a bit about Tutu — perhaps
I felt the same way about Atwell the second they picked him that I did back when they picked Trung.
Rams draft really well overall but it’s interesting that they’re not as strong in the 2nd round as they are on lower round picks. To be honest, I suspect that’s because McV is more involved with round 2 and has a thing he wants when it’s time to pick. I think the “eye for the draft” is more Snead than McV.

Surprising and awesome move. A tough receiver to take some hits off of Kupp. Always reminded me of a bigger, burlier Anquan Boldan. I guess big WR Ben Skopfensteinwrek isn’t gonna factor into the O..Axel Kopun@FV_Mylia_LynnRemember what the Rams were facing in the SB – OBJ got hurt so it was basically Kupp at WR & no one else. Kupp missed last half of 2018, Woods last half of 2021, so quality depth at WR is crucial. If Kupp stays healthy in 2018, Rams win the SB vs Patriots that year..Seth@tejfbanalyticsmatthew stafford will be the first above-average quarterback that allen robinson will receive passes from in his whole career #rams
