    Brian Allen (knee) won’t practice today. David Long (groin), Cobie Durant (hamstring), Taylor Rapp (ribs) also limited today. Rams are as banged up as I’ve ever seen them in my time here.

    Have seen Carberry getting some criticism. Not sure the Rams OL woes are on him. 5 OL on IR is crazy. Jackson is playing at a starting caliber level. Allen played at a top-10 level last season. Shelton went from UDFA to starting RG. Guys are being developed.

    Rams HC Sean McVay said they haven’t decided yet who will start at left guard and center on Sunday against the Panthers. McVay said Brian Allen will be out this week.

    The Rams have gotten some of their best OL play this year from UDFA tackle Alaric Jackson, currently playing RG, and Jackson can play on either side, interior or exterior, which means *if* they want to try Oday Aboushi this week on the inside, they have some flexibility in where.

    The Rams put guard David Edwards, who is in the concussion protocol, on injured reserve. They signed C Matt Skura to the 53-man roster and waived RB Jake Funk. Think there is a real shot we see Stafford working with his fourth center in six weeks.

    On a real-life, real stakes note I am hoping David Edwards is OK. He had a concussion and missed Week 4, then cleared protocol and then suffered another concussion on Sunday. Injured reserve means he will be out four games at minimum

    Rams offense arguably looked at its best this season against ARI. Ran play-action on 40% of dropbacks in that game. That dropped to 19.6% against SF and 14.9% against DAL. Play-action is a good way to help the OL.

    David Edwards headed to IR is probably the right move. Get him healthy and bring him back later in the year after the bye. It’s also the fifth offensive linemen to go on IR. Hopefully Aboushi can start soon. Gonna need therapy if it’s Bobby Evans.

    Rams currently have 4 interior OL on IR, including both starting OGs, and the starting C out with injury too. Both OTs have picked up injuries during games. Might be a good idea to retire the empty backfield set for a little while.

    Steve Wilks will be the interim head coach of the Carolina Panthers this week. He was the coach of the Cardinals in 2018. The Rams won those games 34-0 and 31-9. PJ Walker will also be the starting quarterback on Sunday.

    Matt Skura needs to start at center until Brian Allen or Coleman Shelton get back. Need that veteran presence. Aboushi was playing at a similar level as Corbett last year before the ACL. Would like to see him at LG. There are potential available solutions.

    Oday Aboushi

    Professional career

    New York Jets

    The New York Jets selected Aboushi in the fifth round, with the 141st overall pick, of the 2013 NFL Draft. The Jets signed him to a four-year rookie contract on May 10, 2013; financial terms were not disclosed.

    Aboushi was inactive in 2013 for all 16 regular season games with the Jets. In 2014, he started 10 games after the starter was injured.

    Aboushi was suspended without pay (about $34,400) for the first game of the 2015 season for violating the NFL Policy and Program for Substances of Abuse, in August 2015. Aboushi was released by the Jets on September 15, 2015, one day after his suspension for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy ended.

    Houston Texans

    The Houston Texans claimed Aboushi off of waivers on September 16, 2015.

    Seattle Seahawks

    On March 17, 2017, Aboushi signed with the Seattle Seahawks. He started eight games at right guard before suffering a dislocated shoulder injury in Week 15. He was placed on injured reserve on December 13, 2017.

    Oakland Raiders

    On July 28, 2018, Aboushi signed with the Oakland Raiders reuniting him with his previous year offensive line coach Tom Cable. He was released on September 1, 2018.

    Arizona Cardinals

    On October 23, 2018, Aboushi signed with the Arizona Cardinals.

    Detroit Lions

    On March 14, 2019, Aboushi signed a one-year, $2 million contract with the Detroit Lions. On March 27, 2020, he re-signed with the Lions. He was released during final roster cuts on September 5, 2020, but re-signed with the team the next day. He was fined $5,221 by the NFL for unnecessary roughness in Week 2.

    Los Angeles Chargers

    On March 20, 2021, Aboushi signed with the Los Angeles Chargers. He was named the Chargers starting right guard for the 2021 season. However, he suffered a torn ACL in Week 5 and was placed on season-ending injured reserve on October 12, 2021.

    Los Angeles Rams

    On September 14, 2022, Aboushi signed with the practice squad of the Los Angeles Rams. He was promoted to the active roster six days later.

    It’s not an entirely fair or valid comparison because in 2007, while their OL was damaged early and often, the Rams could still run the ball with Jackson in most of the first 5 games.

    In their first 5 games of 2007, the Rams had 458 yards rushing, including 2 100+ yard games, with an average of 90.9 yards per game. Jackson just made a difference, you had to defend him no matter what, so there was less pressure by a certain small percentage.

    In 2022, it’s 312 yards rushing in 5 games, or an avg. of 62.5 yards per game. That of course means a bit more pressure. In 2022, teams, as we know and can clearly see, can afford to play pass first against the Rams without defending the run the way you would if they had an in-his-prime Jackson.

    That basically averages out to 2.4 more pressures per game in 2022 as opposed to 2007, fwiw.
