znModeratorOut today due to personal reasons, it’s very possible #Rams RB Cam Akers has played his last down for the team. They are expected to field trade calls for their former starter.

Ian Rapoport, from https://www.nfl.com/news/rams-expected-to-field-trade-calls-for-rb-cam-akers
If the situation continues as it has so far this season, Rams former starting running back Cam Akers has played his last down with the team.
Sources say Akers, who is out today due to what was described as personal reasons, has philosophical and football-related differences with head coach Sean McVay. The coach has left Akers’ future open, and sources say the third-year pro could be on the way out.
The belief is that he’ll draw significant trade interest, and the team is open to a deal for the right value.
The Super Bowl champs will make Akers inactive for Sunday’s game against the Panthers, with McVay, when pressed, saying Friday, “I would say it’s more like we’re dealing with things internally. This is kind of unchartered territory and I think the biggest thing is, out of respect for the situation, we want to keep it internally.”
McVay added, “He’s going to be OK.”
The Rams will utilize running backs Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson today, along with recently elevated undrafted rookie Ronnie Rivers, who has impressed and should get carries.
Akers emerged as the Rams’ go-to runner as a rookie during the 2020 season, averaging 4.3 yards per rush and setting himself up for a monster 2021.
znModeratorJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue McVay characterizes this as an internal issue with Akers, who he says is physically ok. “We’re dealing with things internally. … he is gonna be OK.” Sean McVay says Cam Akers won’t be here today (was out yesterday listed as “personal”), and out Sunday. McVay says team is working through the situation, and he also declined to say whether he believes Akers will be a part of the team in the future. “Working through some things.”
Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueRe. Cam Akers – as noted here Friday, the language McVay used indicated the Rams were exploring some sort of move. Akers out today after missing a few days of practice; my sense is situation stems around differences of opinion at position that has struggled to find identity.

ALLEN ROBINSON
Hate to say it but he isnt quick or sudden doesn’t separate well. He is a possession receiver. Needs to be a #3. He was a replacement for Woods, not Beckham. A #2 with a coverage dictating #3 in VJ, an eventual #3 behind Kupp and Beckham, sharing time with VJ.
He is NOTHING compared to Woods. Clearly they made the wrong decision trading Woods and signing A Rob. So far at least.
Whatever the case, the Rams Receiving corps needs to be more diverse and threatening to defenses at all layers – beyond Kupp and Higs. I don’t care who the other pieces end up being. Just figure it out MCV.
znModeratorCameron DaSilva@camdasilvaIf we’re being honest, the Rams shouldn’t trade for McCaffrey unless it’s for, like, 2 late-round picks. A running back won’t solve their problems this season, even as fun as it would be to see CMC with McVay.…The Carolina Panthers are listening to other teams about a potential trade for star running back Christian McCaffrey, although a deal might not be easy to complete, league sources tell ESPN.https://t.co/96y8r4AiCK

195 lbslink: https://www.nfl.com/prospects/ronnie-rivers/32005249-5667-3384-6c78-b7eef7619467
Overview
An undersized back with three-down ability, Rivers is reliable and incredibly consistent. He runs with wiggle and does a nice job of finding efficient rush tracks early in the carry. However, his lack of size and leg drive could limit his success as an inside runner, while the lack of high-end burst could make him an average outside runner. Rivers won’t stand out in any particular area, but the sum of his parts gives him a shot to become a backup.
Strengths
Low center of gravity runner with a balanced base.
Able to readjust rush track versus early penetration in the backfield.
Sinks hips and makes wide jump-cuts around trouble.
Finds acceleration quickly after changing direction.
Capable worker in a crowded box.
Rarely allows feet to stagnate.
Lacks size but not toughness in pass protection.
Makes the first man miss after the catch.Weaknesses
Below-average size and frame.
Inconsistent manipulation of linebackers.
A shade indecisive when he’s missing a clear point of entry.
Below-average leg drive by NFL standards.
Missing a getaway gear and gets walked down by tacklers.
Smallish, short-armed target as a pass-catcher.
znModeratorSosa Kremenjas@QBsMVPI genuinely think the Rams will be in on Christian McCaffrey. Doesn’t mean something crystallizes for sure, but I’m confident they’ll at least call. Great player who fits the offense well. Would play a part in transforming that run game w/ a healthy OL..Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueIn response to questions on the McCaffrey thing – no, it’s not a stretch to imagine Rams might be monitoring the situation, especially (as noted previously) bc he’s pretty much paid out this yr. A few notable ties include friendship with Stafford and to LA area in general. BUTin consideration of injury history and resource allocation, Rams would have to walk a fine line on terms. If player or agent (Segal) at some point communicates any preferences, that changes the situation quite a bit I would imagine, esp. coupled w/franchise undergoing change. That said, the Rams have other pressing matters unfolding and I believe any possible interest in that situation isn’t all they’d be looking at in terms of making changes during/after bye and/or before trade deadline. Those pieces have to all fit together, too.
(meaning – financial pieces, draft capital pieces, roster-build strategy, etc etc etc)

McVay says team is working through the situation, and he also declined to say whether he believes Akers will be a part of the team in the future. “Working through some things.”
znModeratorJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueThe Rams activated OL Chandler Brewer and RB Ronnie Rivers from the practice squad, per team. RBs Sunday are Darrell Henderson, Malcolm Brown and Rivers..Final Rams/Panthers injury report. Sean McVay said he expects Cooper Kupp, Tyler Higbee and Aaron Donald all to play. David Long Jr, Taylor Rapp appear ready to return as well..Rams guard David Edwards will see the same concussion specialists in Pittsburgh that WR Brandin Cooks did in 2019. Edwards is on IR after suffering his second concussion in as many weeks.
znModeratorBlaine Grisak@bgrisakDTRIn 20 games with 10+ carries, Darrell Henderson has 280 carries for 1,256 yards. That’s an average of 4.49 yards per carry. Excited to see what he can do on Sunday.
znModeratorJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueSean McVay says Cam Akers won’t be here today (was out yesterday listed as “personal”), and out Sunday. McVay says team is working through the situation, and he also declined to say whether he believes Akers will be a part of the team in the future. “Working through some things.”
𝕋𝕠𝕞@TL_LARamsSounds to me like Sean McVay didn’t want to say anything regarding Cam Akers, just that he was absent and won’t play. That could suggest it’s fairly serious and possibly quite personal to Akers.Blaine Grisak@bgrisakDTRWouldn’t be shocked if Rams do trade for a RB. However, I do think they like Kyren Williams. Following the bye, it’ll be six weeks since his injury. Had some good moments in training camp.

znModeratorJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueOC Liam Coen says amount of mental errors, busts in protection/missed calls and in general are “a little bit foreign” to the history of this offense. But, he adds, the effort is there. It’s not an effort question. “It’s not that we don’t play hard. We’re just not playing very.smart. We’re kicking ourselves in the butt, in a lot of instances.” Coen said players have taken more ownership of meetings – mentioned protection meeting especially – this week. “No waver in confidence” from players, coaches that it’ll get fixed..Vague so wanted to clarify: I don’t think this group can’t block or protect. I think the issue is coming from crazy turnover of personnel and miscommunications or missed calls. Which gels with Rob Havenstein’s “mindset” comment; McVay’s “free rusher”/”errors” comment..Again, idk a team in the league w a 53 man cap and financial cap that would be prepared to reach this deep for iOL, and injuries can’t be predicted so most teams build toward the mean. Next couple weeks will come down to coaching in practice, meetings and live in games.

Working on my weekly OL/DL rankings and there just aren’t many OL units to feel great about right now across the NFL. I expect it to get a little better as the year goes on & things stabilize for some teams, but the variance feels a lot higher top to bottom compared to last year. There’s a pretty clear tier 1, a few solid ones after that, but a lot of good scheming/QB play is bailing many of these units out. It’ll be really interesting to see how the landscape looks in another 5-6 weeks.
