And pass rush. need an edge player to take advantage of all the attention Donald gets.

That might be Hoecht. We’ll see.

    From another thread:

    .
    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
On emergence of DL Michael Hoecht as an OLB, Sean McVay says they realized he could be a good edge “probably two weeks ago”. “Otherwise we would’ve done this shit a lot sooner.” Hoecht had 2 sacks, 3 hits, a TFL and forced a fumble. He had 5 pressures on 31 rushes, T7 in W13.

You can always upgrade the OLine. If Taylor Lewan, became available, we should nab him. He is a veteran, and would be that much needed leader for the OLine. If we didn’t have the injuries on the OLine, leadership is still a problem.

Yeah I know about Lewan but if they don’t do it, I’m fine with that–for example neither OT allowed any pressures last game. The problem’s on the interior, but then, they have more than 12 different interior OL to choose from already if they all go to camp next summer.

I just don’t see the issues you see in the future.

I think by far the bigger problem is the secondary, especially CB.

Stafford is getting up there in age, for what NFL players careers are. He wants to be protected. I can see he will say it.

And he will be and he knows it. See, remember, we see the 2023 OL situation differently. So you think Stafford sees it your way. I think he sees it my way.

Fun fact: Teams that has a losing record after winning the Super Bowl (49ers, Giants, and Commanders) all won the Super Bowl within the next 3 years after their “hangover” season.

Bobby Brown III played well yesterday in his minimal snaps. Got a TFL and 2 pressures in just 17 snaps. Michael Hoecht and Leonard Floyd combined for 10 pressures and 2 sacks.

Sean McVay acknowledges that Tutu Atwell “probably should have gotten more opportunities earlier in the season, and that’s something I won’t run away from, because all this guy has done is answer the bell when he’s had his chances.”

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Asked Sean McVay about examples of the growth he brought up postgame yesterday, mentioned being able to get DB Decobie Durant and S Russ Yeast involved, plus the play of RB Cam Akers and WR Tutu Atwell as bright spots.

Rams DL Michael Hoecht said OLB role started out as “in case of emergency” (i.e. due to injury), and obviously became more of a reality as they dealt with injuries/attrition there.

Pre-NFL experience as OLB “almost none,” aside from lining up at 5-technique a little in college.

Sean McVay says he expects Matthew Stafford to have a “healthy offseason” and says “no” when asked if injury is long-term.

Stafford had no shot of winning in Detroit. Detroit was trying to build him, an OLine. Something we are not doing here. They drafted Offensive Tackles, Riley Reiff(2012) & Taylor Decker(2016), Guard, Laken Tomlinson(2015), & Center, Frank Ragnow(2018). They were all first round picks. Decker & Ragnow are still with the Lions. Reiff is in Minnesota, and Tomlinson is now in San Fran. All of them are starters.

We don’t agree about what the Rams have done or what Stafford would say.

I do think that Stafford will say he wants the OLine upgraded. In other words, get a LOT in free agency or he’ll retire. There is a rumor the Titans may cut Taylor Lewan in a cost cutting move, and if that is true, I think a one year or two year deal, would be good sign for us then.

Stafford never said that in Detroit, why would he say it here?

Rams have candidates all along the line for the summer. That’s the thin silver thread in the dark clouds of OL injuries. They can bring any number of experienced players to camp from the long list of guys they played this season. A couple of  them were not bad at all either–I think LOG has been in far worse shape than LOT has been (except for Evans).

Maybe they will have money for a top LOT in free agency. That would be nice. But if they don’t they have all these bodies to work with. After all this year they started 5 LOTs 8 OGs and 3 OCs.

Per @PFF   Michael Hoecht had an 89.5 grade on first review, the highest single-game grade of his career by over 15 points. He recorded five pressures, and 2 sacks.

Hoecht was absolutely abusing Charles Cross, the number 9 overall pick in the 2022 draft.

Would really like to start seeing Cobie Durant where David Long is currently playing. Year four of Long and we’re still getting these types of game-changing mistakes.

I would like to congratulate Pete Carroll for his first win on the road against Sean McVay since 2017. Took the Rams being down: Aaron Donald Matthew Stafford Cooper Kupp Allen Robinson The entire OL …but hey, he did it. All that and Seattle won by a whopping 4 points.

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
Most things are bad for the Rams, but before slinking back into the doom I did want to note this:  @TruMediaSports   early PM numbers show a 52.3% pressure rate vs. SEA, more than double their season average. To me, and from the eye test watching live from SoFi, that’s all effort.
    .
all I’m saying is Hoecht/Donald combo will eventually be fun to watch

163 career games for @RamsNFL LB Bobby Wagner. His first against the Seahawks is also the first time in his Hall of Fame career he’s had multiple sacks and an interception.
    .
150 net yards in the 1Q for the Rams was a new season-high. 52 rushing, 98 through the air, 7.1 yds/play.

Bobby Wagner has more sacks than Leonard Floyd and more catches than Tyler Higbee.

Nice to see Taylor Rapp playing where he excels — which is in the box. Similar to how Mark Barron was used. Has been effective on the blitz today, just can’t cover downfield whatsoever.
