TE was a big part of McVay’s O in Washington. I think it is interesting that no passes went to a TE. No targets to a TE. Maybe he went away from them because he knew Gruden would expect him to go to them, or do our TE’s just suck?
I don’t think they have TEs.
TEs were big in Washington because they had them.
Rams don’t really have any. In spite of the hype for some draft picks.
IMO they’re just better off spreading the field with 3 WR sets for Gurley.
That’s okay the GSOT offense didn’t have TEs either.
..
Absolutley agree. I don’t think our TEs are bad, it’s just there are so many better playmakers on this O. Woods, Cooks, Kupp, and Gurley are good to great on any given Sunday. Feeding those 4 guys will move the chains and score points.
WinnbradParticipantI didnt see it. Someone sum it up.
I see the rams had….five turnovers. FIVE turnovers?
I’m betting at least two were by tavon.
w
vGurley was a little too comfortable reaching for the pylon. Fumbled out of the side of the endzone. Seahawks ball, 20 yard line. No TD, no FG, no points. Big momentum swing in the wrong direction. And on the first drive.
Goff threw a bad screen pass, got picked off in FG range. No points. Another momentum killer.
Tavon fumbled.
This Rams teams just wasn’t ready to win this type of game. Seattle was intense, and seized every small opportunity. The Rams didn’t.
You can’t ease into a street fight.
But maybe next time the Rams will get it right… 🙂
EDIT: And GZ missed an easy one.
It was an all around team effort for a loss.
WinnbradParticipantIs this game like the 49er game in 99? Ya know. A real test.
If the Rams win, they are ‘for real’ etc…?
w
vYes.
===================
Kinda seems that way, dont it.
Is it the game that will reflect a major, surprising power-change in the NFC West? Will Gurley score four TDs and bury his head in a towel on the sidelines and weep?
Will the beatdown the Rams put on the Seahawks be so humiliating that Pete Carroll pees his pants, and refuses to coach another game?w
vLOL! I don’t know about any of that.
I’m guessing the Rams come out with a lot of shots downfield. Including the play-action Tavon end-arounds/jet sweeps. Sometimes double play-action, first Tavon, then to Gurley. IF the O-line gives Goff time to do that.
This D is horrible, sometimes. They seem to only perform well when the pass rush is clicking. They give up too many big plays. Tree looks lost, a lot. Too many holes in the Run D.
I have no idea how this game will go. My “feeling” is the Rams come out and start firing downfield.
Wilson scares the crap out of me. No QB is better at making something out of nothing.
I guess it’s a nail-biter game. The Rams could easily be 1-3 right now. They’re right on the cusp of being a playoff caliber team, but they’re also on the cusp of sucking. LOL!

Not all heroes wear capes.
Unless you actually do wear a cape. In which case, carry on…
Thank you
WinnbradParticipantI’m happy.
The WRs can catch. We can move the chains.
Goff looked comfortable. Sensed pressure. Stepped up and made passing lanes.
The O seems to be able to get the ball to talented people, in space. That’s a huge improvement over the last few years.
Lots of “good hands” guys on the O. WRs, TEs, RBs, all look like they can make a catch in traffic.
This O will help the Wade Phillips D by keeping them off the field.
Right now the O looks better on 3rd down than any I’ve seen from the Rams in a long time. True, Oakland’s D is below average, and their pass rush isn’t good, but at least the Rams moved the ball, controlled the clock, and made plays on 3rd down.
I saw lots of improvement everywhere on the offense.
WinnbradParticipantI had him on my fantasy posting team this year. Took him in the first round.
Big mistake…
WinnbradParticipantThe question for me is, who can beat NE?
I can’t see how anyone in the AFC outscores NE in the playoffs. The Raiders had a chance, but that’s gone.
KC will lose in NE. Reid is never gonna beat Belichick in his evil lair.
The AFC South is useless.
So Pittsburgh? Maybe…
In the NFC it’s Dallas and Atlanta. They are the only two teams I can see that could potentially outscore NE in a Superbowl.
Of course, everything I just typed is wrong, and the Giants will end up winning it all.
WinnbradParticipantWe just need a 43 point play.
December 10, 2016 at 10:30 am in reply to: informal poll: will Fisher be the coach next year? #60653WinnbradParticipantIf so under what conditions? Does he have to win x number of games? Etc.
This is about both:
* what YOU want to happen
* what you think WILL happen
What I think will happen:
Fisher will be the coach in 2017. A 2 year extension is really a 1 year extension.
If the team does better in 2017 (playoffs?!?!), Fisher will keep his job for 2018.
If the team remains the same or worsens in 2017 (7-9 BS) then Fisher is gone.
And so is Snead.
What do I want to happen?
The same as above.
December 6, 2016 at 7:47 pm in reply to: Wondering why the Rams gave Jeff Fisher an extension? Here’s one good reason #60460WinnbradParticipantIt’s a good article, and bound to offend many recordites.
P.S. Would #77 be under consideration for a holding penalty in the photo?
In a word, no.
In many more words… Quinn, and many other speed rush guys, are held like this every Sunday. It’s everywhere, and on almost every pass play. The refs allow it, but the league office is where the command to allow it comes from. If the refs threw a flag every time they saw that “arm bar/clothesline” from an O-lineman, the game would last all day.
If 77 pulls Quinn to the ground, it can (and probably will) get flagged. But unless it’s brutally flagrant, the call isn’t made. So I’m not just complaining because it’s Quinn being held, it happens to lots of fast DEs and LBs. Watch a Broncos game. It’s ugly.
November 19, 2016 at 11:37 am in reply to: with Goff starting could things loosen up for Gurley? #58999WinnbradParticipantI don’t think Goff helps Gurley, yet…
If Goff can consistently connect on some midrange/deep shots, then yeah.
I can’t see the coaches letting Goff take lots of deep shots. He’s too inexperienced and the O-line struggles often.
November 16, 2016 at 6:05 am in reply to: informal poll #2 … what do you expect of Goff this game? (Miami) #58536WinnbradParticipantHe’ll make some great throws.
He’ll also fumble at least one snap.
Step on the center or guard’s foot, at least once, and fall down.
Scramble early and often.
Throw at least 2 picks. Hopefully no pick 6s.
Look confused.
Have a couple of delay of game penalties.
And have 1 sack/fumble.
Overall, he’ll have some good plays and some ugly plays. Hopefully, the ugly plays don’t lose the game.
WinnbradParticipantI guess he did enough to please Fisher.
When Case doesnt throw pick6’s they tend to win.
w
vTalk about a low bar… But Case cleared it!
WinnbradParticipantThe Rams beat a bad team that started a below average quarterback. We beat the AFC version of the Rams.
A win next week (at home!) has to happen. If it doesn’t, the 7-9 BS train is pulling into the station.
————-
Well even if they win, they may be on the 7-9-BS train. They are now 4-5.
Let us look at the schedule…To get to that lofty, unimaginable EIGHT win summit, they need to scrounge and claw four more hideously-ugly wins out of the next seven games:
Miami
At Saints
At Pats
Atlanta
At Seattle
SF
ArizMaybe that last game will be the game that decides whether its 7-9-Bullshit, OR,
Eight-and-Eight-Mediocrity.w
vUgh. I think I was optimistic with 7-9. Maybe I can catch that 6-10 train?
WinnbradParticipantThey should start Goff. The Rams are not a playoff team. And even if by some miracle they squeak out a #6 wildcard spot, they’d be one and done.
Start Goff at home. See what he does. If it damages his “pysche” then he was never a long term answer at QB to begin with.

WinnbradParticipantOur offense got better and we lost all three games.
I want the offense to suck, again.
Flawless logic.
I know! I want to go back to winning ugly. 🙂
WinnbradParticipantThere is still the issue of penalties. This is the 5th straight season of being one of the worst in the league. Then again, I just watched Oakland break the record for most penalties in a game, and they still won!?
But to address the point, I’m enjoying the offense. The lack of a running game hurts, but the improvement in the passing game, and especially among the WRs has been great to watch.
WinnbradParticipantOur offense got better and we lost all three games.
I want the offense to suck, again.
WinnbradParticipantYeah probably. But so were the Saints in 2009. I’m fine with “the dirtiest team”. I’m tired of a “losing team”.
How are you doing, Winn?
…
Doing well! Thanks for asking ZN! Still rehabbing. I worked all last week, got through it. Not too bad.
Looking forward to the Giants game. I also have a sense of dread about it. I’m still bummed about the Bills game and the 3 D-lineman being out. That was a huge missed opportunity to go 4-1 and have a shot at the playoffs. Right now, we’re back in “hope” mode. And hope is a bad business plan.
WinnbradParticipantI wonder if the Rams really are the Dirtiest team in the NFL ?
7 and 9 ‘dirty’ Bullshit team ?
w
vYeah probably. But so were the Saints in 2009. I’m fine with “the dirtiest team”. I’m tired of a “losing team”.
WinnbradParticipantNo. They can win a few, but they won’t make the playoffs Seattle and Ari will continue to get stronger as the season goes on, they have for a few years now.
That Buff loss really hurts. 4-1 would have given us some breathing room.
If Quinn, Brockers and Hayes are still out, then we will lose at Detroit. This D line is too important. Losing Tru just makes it worse. Stafford will eat our lunch if we can’t pressure him.
The GSOT went 10-6 in the 2000 season because they didn’t have a defense. The offense we have now can’t single-handedly win games. Can’t win any game really. We have to have a great D to be above .500. Right now, we don’t have a great D.
WinnbradParticipantThis is exactly the type of “man on the street” perspective we’ve been needing around here. Nice work!
Have fun in LA!

WinnbradParticipantI don’t think he’ll see a jail, but he will see a suspension. That’s gonna hurt.
October 8, 2016 at 3:51 pm in reply to: Sensabaugh cut, Morgan Fox promoted, 3 starting DL questionable #54779WinnbradParticipantI think that means that either Quinn or Hayes or both won’t be up and going for this game.
Why else promote a DE like Fox.
….
Ugh. Not good. We need Quinn. We need Hayes too, but losing Quinn hurts more.
WinnbradParticipant“He can be okay sometimes but is too limited physically”
I think that’s what I’d choose. I feel like he gives everything he’s got. But he’s never gonna be 6’4″ with an arm like Stafford or the wheels of Wilson.
I think Keenum makes the most of what he’s got. I just wish he had more.
He’s kind of “Flutie-ish”.
WinnbradParticipantIf Hayes, Quinn, and Brockers are all out we have a big problem. This D is good, but they won’t survive that.
I hope Fisher is holding those guys out just to heal up. He’s left that door open.
WinnbradParticipantDo you agree with all of it?
I could quibble with a few things:
RE: Keenum – “He can’t mitigate pressure in the pocket with his movement”
I disagree. I like Keenum’s pocket presence, and he is a mobile QB. He’s not Russell Wilson mobile, but Keenum is shifty, like an angry squirrel. Compared to Bradford and Foles, Keenum is practically Usain Bolt.
RE: The Defense – “Michael Brockers would be a fine guess as the third-best player on the Rams defense, but that title appears to belong to Trumaine Johnson now.”
To me, Donald, Quinn, Tru, Barron, and Ogletree, are all right at the top of importance in this D. Donald is the lone standout, by a little, but everyone else is extremely important. Barron and Ogletree are everywhere on the field. They tackle well, hit hard, and sniff out a lot of plays. This D doesn’t work at all without those two guys.
RE: Gurley – The writer talks about the Rams poor blocking from the O-line, but then shows a gif with 9 Cardinals within 5 yards of the LOS. And the Honey Badger (the FS) is only 10 yards off, smack in the middle of the field. To me, that defense screams “No big play from Gurley!”
The Seattle gif – 8 guys, that I can see, within 5 yards of the LOS.
The SF gif – 9 guys within 5 yards of the LOS.
I know RBs have to make people miss, but to me the issue isn’t just the O-line blocking. It’s also defenses designed purely to stop Gurley, at all costs.
To be fair, the writer states that “the defenses they’ve faced have made stopping him a priority — except for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers”. I just think that’s a bigger issue than the Rams O line blocking.
Again, I’m just nitpicking. I agree with a lot in the article.
