sanbaggerParticipant
Osweiler lookin good. Good for him after being benched and comin back in the playoffs lookin good.
If the Texans can get decent QB play they can have an impact on these playoffs.
sanbaggerParticipantA lot of being the HC is getting the right fit at coordinator then managing them. we don’t know who Kyle plans on at his coordinator positions.
There are plenty of good candidates and the Rams do have positives to lure a good coach…the biggest IMO is the cap availability and the worst is the loss of draft picks.
sanbaggerParticipant, stupid electricity was off last night. I just had to say that.
I was concerned about losing electricity with the incoming doom of winter storm Helena…and I’m just a bit too far south to have a wood stove.
Oh well, still snowing and good to go…hopefully the city’s 3 snow plows are out and about.
sanbaggerParticipantI prefer a clean sweep at this time.If the incoming coach decides he wants to retain him, then so be it….I’m just ready for some new concepts around Ram land.
sanbaggerParticipantSweet
sanbaggerParticipantI would be very surprised if an incoming coach retains their services. Usually the prospective HC has his core staff in place when he goes to the interview.
GW has been decent and I wouldn’t hate it if he was brought back…but at this point, I think I’m ready to move on.
sanbaggerParticipantI’d like to see Matt Patricia with a strong, established OC (Norv Turner, anyone?)
I like Norv and always felt like he would have been a perfect fit for Fisher.
Apparently Chip Kelly has a strong relationship with Bellichick and have even heard from from some New England guys rumors are if Josh leaves he could replace him in NE.
If Patricia leaves and Josh stays, what about a Patricia / Chip Kelly duo? Seems like BB would certainly bend Patricia’s ear…
sanbaggerParticipantIt should be obvious. REBUILD. It is yet another rebuild. But when since 2004 hasn’t it been a rebuild? Solid players have their head in the game. Stupid penalties abound every year. When is the last time the Rams as a team could be described as having their head in the game? 2004? When is the last time the Rams had a competent offense? The Rams defense had been rebuilt of late yet this year regressed to the point that it needs a rebuild. Special teams are almost finally there but watching Tavon Austin’s piss poor judgement on returns or worse fumbling on returns is too much and with the coaching change it too will be rebuilt
The penalties have been a constant since Fisher arrived and I put that on the HC, always have.
I don’t recall a total rebuild of the D…I do know this team has had a revolving door of sorts at the coordinator positions, and the new coordinator is gonna want players that fit their scheme…if anything, I think that hindered the team from gaining any continuity. The D played less aggressive this year…I think that had to do with injuries to the DB’s and not having continuity.
ST’s have been there for the last couple of years and while you may not appreciate TA, prior to this year he had been a top 5 returner each season and has the breakaway speed required to make the other teams pay attention.
I disagree with a complete rebuild but I guess that depends on the incoming coach and players he needs to run his scheme…for example Barron, does he fit in the role GW had him, will the new D coordinator be fine running a 4-2-5 D?
January 5, 2017 at 7:18 pm in reply to: With Raiders eyeing Vegas, NFL might help the Chargers stay in San Diego #62443sanbaggerParticipantit’s not a dump. it’s a really nice stadium i think. but then i think the coliseum is a really nice stadium. just upgrade it and it’d be just fine. it’s starting to rain a lot more, but really, i’m sure they could find a solution if it was really a problem
I thought it was a nice stadium as well…had a new sound system and video boards from their last upgrade that Spanos still owes on.
The flooding really is a problem, but how much of the crying was Spanos lobbying for a new stadium?
I really liked that we were able to get out of the stadium in remarkably quick fashion which would not be the case if they built a stadium down town.
January 5, 2017 at 7:13 pm in reply to: With Raiders eyeing Vegas, NFL might help the Chargers stay in San Diego #62441sanbaggerParticipantIf the NFL really wants expansion, move the Chargers to Mexico. They basically would own the country, like the Blue Jays own Canada for the MLB and the Raptors own Canada for the NBA.
Funny thing is, when I was there they have the Spanish channel on TV and the adopted team was the Rams…I watched several games in Spanish. Apparently they weren’t governed by the rules because I sure did watch’em.
sanbaggerParticipantOutside of Hekker and Donald blow it up
I see this same type of quote a lot…my thing is, not 1 team in the NFL is made up of all pro players and I’m including the dark side Patriots.
There are plenty of players on this team that I think are solid players and can be building blocks going forward.
Please explain what you mean by “blow it up”.
January 5, 2017 at 12:23 pm in reply to: With Raiders eyeing Vegas, NFL might help the Chargers stay in San Diego #62418sanbaggerParticipantThat doesn’t make sense other than wishful thinking from a $tanK toadie?
it doesn’t make sense for the chargers or the rams or the nfl to have the chargers move to los angeles. especially financially.
i’m thinking spanos stays and tries to get a stadium built in san diego. that’s my guess.
Gonna be tough for them to get a new stadium unless Spanos builds it himself, and that’s not gonna happen unless he sells the team.
The last try was for the city to get the money through a tax hike on the Hotels and they voted it down.
I wonder if Spanos would be agreeable to an upgrade on the MV stadium? I don’t think it’s a dump, the only problem is the flooding, but how often does it rain in So Cal?
sanbaggerParticipantI’m not so sure losing your best receiver is upgrading the position.
This could have been one of those contract year spike in performance type of deals for KB, but I tend to think he’s a legit 1K yard receiver. I would like to see him back and a continued effort to upgrade the receivers.
I like Thomas and with a year under his belt he has proven to be a terrific STer and if he just learns to hold on to the ball will be a solid addition.
Hopefully Spruce returns next year healthy because that guys has glue fingers and produced at a high level in college…no reason not to believe he can’t continue that in the NFL…they kept him for a reason.
I also like the moxy Cooper brings.
Lastly, if Higbee can learn to block, just a little, he can become a weapon.
With all of those young up and comers the veteran leadership of a KB will go a long way. If they decide not to bring one back I would suggest Quick before KB….and I have always liked Quick. For his skill set I believe he has under performed.
sanbaggerParticipantFor whatever reason the guy just wasn’t get a shot with the old regime…I was kinda thinkin of him after Fish got the axe.
Guess we’ll find out if he had talent.
sanbaggerParticipantThere aren’t any vets that are crippling the cap.
That’s a key point, IMO. The Rams have done a terrific job with regards to the cap…If the Rams decide they want to keep a guy like LK they easily can do that, and it won’t surprise me to see him at camp next year.
That’s gonna help lure the coach they want because they are gonna have to get past the whole draft pick issue.
sanbaggerParticipantMy fear is some new coach overreacts and throws out too many players.
Just because I only hi-lited this part of your post don’t think I disregarded your point…I just kinda feel like we’re in a stalemate on that so I grabbed this because it’s interesting.
I worry a little about that as well…because I think there is talent on this team…and they are young with a little tape for the incoming coaches to watch, aside from practice tape.
There are Vets that are going to be released because they are gonna have to bring in some FA’s I just don’t think I want to see a wide swipe because they may be getting rid of some keepers.
sanbaggerParticipantThis team is not going to have a top offense in one year no matter what they do.
Agreed. It will take a lot of discipline, as an O minded coach, to take a D guy when your first pick in your first draft is on day 2.
That’s where you have to stay true to your board and if you put a new GM in place assembling that board…well, I lose confidence.
IMO, Snead is critical at this juncture going in to next year.
I’m a believer in staying true to the board, that netted us wins like Donald…when you start to reach it can be a home run or it can get you fired. I also don’t want a HC to have total control…the GM should have last say IMO.
sanbaggerParticipantSo…If they bring in an O minded coach, would he be OK going D with their first pick…on day 2 mind you?
That’s where keeping Sneed could pay dividends. The guy knows the team and he has been in contact with the scouts all season. He could pursuade a Shanahan or a McD and if he has final say we don’t see reaches…I’m all for the best available even though I’m a known O-line builder type.
sanbaggerParticipantI’m done with LK
I personally disagree. The way I see LK, he has mostly been effective across the years as a good role player, but when he’s effective, he tends to get overlooked. When he stumbles it gets magnified.
You know most of the years he has been a Ram, LK has led the Rams in catch percentage. That’s in addition to his blocking. He stumbled some in 2016, but I don’t hold that against him. IMO it would be a mistake to let LK go.
I thought the same thing last year Zn. Take a look at his stats and you will see just how subpar they are and I’m grading on a curve due to O-line and QB’s.
Also..He’s just not that good as a blocker..I have come to that conclusion and now that he costs absolutely nothing against the cap to release vice 4.25 Mil to keep..to me this is a no brainer.
This is kind of an issue now with the coach changes going on because he has the most experience on the team and at only 4 mil he may get a year from the incoming group…that’s a mistake IMO.
We can agree to disagree here zn if you like, but take a good look at his stats and you will see he’s just not that good. Also, remember what your eyes told you and if you saw something different than I did than you can justify him staying.
As far as I’m concerned it’s time to move on from him and use his 4.25 mil cap space for some FA contracts.
sanbaggerParticipantI’m kinda glad he didn’t collect that bonus because I certainly don’t feel as though he earned it.
The funny thing is I think it was one of those hidden money types of contract issues…a goal that should be easily attainable yet due to his drops he doesn’t get the money.
I’m done with LK and his contract shows 0 dead money…he could be a casualty headed in to next year…wouldn’t hurt my feelings.
sanbaggerParticipantI agree with this theory. I’ll even go a step further and say I think he’s had a lingering injury all year.
His rookie year he was a different player than the one we watched this year and it led me to wonder about his health around mid season. He was held out of pre-season dealing with a mysterious balky ankle…nobody from the team was really commenting on it.
sanbaggerParticipantMy Spidey senses tell me Stan would love to get Josh McD to come to LA…I just don’t think Josh is gonna want the job…just think he would rather wait out Bellicheater.
As of this date…I’m leaning towards the Shanahan clan to come in and revamp this O, I just would love to know who he is gonna propose as his D coordinator.
sanbaggerParticipantWell…that’s good to know that they have patched things up…also, we won’t have to wait on details of the contract because he’s already got one.
I didn’t look at the date did I.
Oh well this will be my blooper reel entry.
haha..just havin a little fun on this rainy Monday.
I appreciate the info you bring.
sanbaggerParticipantThe Rams also have interviewed Jeff Fisher, who’s expected to choose this week between St. Louis and the Miami Dolphins.
Well…that’s good to know that they have patched things up…also, we won’t have to wait on details of the contract because he’s already got one.
sanbaggerParticipantYea…I agree…thanks for puttin up a positives thread.
I’ll go with:
1) Hav at RT is a win. I think he’s been struggling with an injury all year and they finally decided to shut him down. I think when healthy he’s a solid building block.
2) As Zn mentioned..Donnal took over the guard position and graded high. He could also be a keeper going forward.
3) Wait for it…GROB…will be a positive when moved inside. I’m convinced tackle is not his position and when moved inside he will blossom.
4) The special teams are very good. Playoff quality good.
5) I believe the Gurley we saw year 1 is the real Gurley.
6) I like Higbee and think he needed a year to get ready. I know he’s not a great blocker but he has elite hands and will become a great friend to Goff.
7) Speaking of Goff…I like the way this guy gets back up, dusts himself off, and goes right back to work…he’s a tough guy. He also has a short memory apparently and he’s gonna need it after this year. He’s #7 on this list because he didn’t show alot but he did show some…enough for me to think he’s gonna get better and better.
8) Almost forgot…Thomas as a wr is gonna show up next year. He needs to work on his hands this off-season but then he’s gonna be a weapon.

sanbaggerParticipantI think I would be more willing to believe that, if he didn’t state it twice. Repeating oneself is for emphasis.
In todays technological world NFL players are taught to deal with media relations….I look at his rebuttal tweet as damage control, as I said earlier.
Now, I don’t look at this as a mountain either…I just think Saffold was out of line with that comment…continuing the loser mentality…that’s what needs to change around Ram land.
- This reply was modified 7 years, 11 months ago by sanbagger.
sanbaggerParticipantI don’t know PA looks like another GRob to me. Comes from a run heavy school and struggles a little in the pass game especially against speed rushers…sounds like GRob to me.
I think I would be fine with swapping GRob and Saffold for a year and getting Elflein from Ohio State to play Center…I think he’ll be there early round 2.
However it goes…I’ll be happy if they address the O-line even though I expect some attention to the line in FA,
- This reply was modified 7 years, 11 months ago by sanbagger.
sanbaggerParticipantThat was a weird comment by Saffold. He said it twice and that usually means something, and how can it be taken out of context, when he said it again?
There’s no way for Saffold to know how Goff is gonna work in the off-season since this will be the first for him.
After reading Goff was going around the room talking to everybody and telling them to remember how this feels…well, that just struck me as maybe a little too much. He needs to become the leader of the team by his work and his play…I can’t speak for how hard he works, but reports during the season were he worked hard but his play didn’t earn him that role yet…maybe just tone it down a smidge.
I really didn’t like that Saffold comment and feel like his tweet was more damage control than sincerity…just the way it comes off to me.
sanbaggerParticipantAw man its Ground Hog Day already?
I know, it does kinda feel that way. Trust me, I’m frustrated as well….just, I see things that tells me this team definitely underachieved. This team is better than the record shows, IMO.
I don’t see it as good as that 98 team…maybe a couple of years until ready now with an entirely new regime and system.
sanbaggerParticipantSo…just a recap so far..please add if I’ve missed anyone
