All the football people think Bradford has the better skills. Foles is better than Glennon or Hill or anyone else the Rams might have gotten to replace Bradford. imo Is he just filler until we find a real QB? Is he the answer at QB? He has demonstrated some potential, but anyone who makes it this far has to demonstrate some potential. Besides, we have no one under contract for next year. We solved the QB situation as best we could this year. imo We are still looking for a better answer for next year and beyond.
I agree with that.
I think they pulled a rabbit out of a hat.

root for Sam now, cause if he stays
healthy and plays the games
the Rams dont lose a 3rd rd pick.
S9 peepulz, which of the two QBs will
have the higher QB-rating ?I say…ummmmm….Bradford.
Haters gonna hate.
But I don’t know how anyone can hate Bradford. He’s a victim of bad circumstances.
Those QB ratings things can be tricky.
One guy is in a QB driven offense.
One guy is in a ground control offense.
One guy is in a fast moving, light speed offense(get as many plays in as you can).
One guy is in a slogging grind it out sort of offense.
It’ll be interesting to watch.
I’ll be rooting for Sam just because he’s a nice human being who has had a lot of crap to deal with and is doing his best.
I’ll be rooting for Foles because he’s a nice human being, also with some stuff he’s dealt with and he plays for the Rams.
I hope Foles wins.

PA RamParticipantHe was just on WIP.
They were pretty nice to him(and the morning show guys can be pretty rough)and he repeated pretty much the same things. They did ask him if he viewed this as a one year audition because of his contract or if he was open to redoing it(can’t remember the exact words) and he tip toed around that. They also asked him what it was like to come to a city that embraced football. He said that he felt that at Oklahoma and he was excited about it. Talked about the difficulty of his rehabs.
I wish him only the best. He’s a good guy.
You can’t control for injuries but I hope things work out for him(unless they play the Rams of course).

Chip Kelly is bringing in a lot of injured players. He doesn’t seem to worry about that. He apparently has some “sports science” program he believes in that is supposed to help injured players. I’m not quite sure what it is. But he certainly doesn’t worry about injured players. He looks at it more as an opportunity.
Interesting.
Also–a lot of teams–even with his contract and injuries seem to value Bradford.
Hopefully this all works out.

March 11, 2015 at 1:46 pm in reply to: Chip Kelly ( Was offered 1st rounder for Bradford this morning) #20042PA RamParticipantBoth he and Fisher talked to Nick and Sam before the deal came out–unlike the McCoy deal which got spilled before he talked to Lesean.
Won’t mortgage future for any player(packaging picks)—(getting hammered about Mariota)
They didn’t consider trading Sam. Not brought in to be a chip.
Looked at every throw Sam made since he’s been in NFL. Everyone a byproduct of what’s around you. Assessing individual players. If receivers drop balls whose fault is it? Stats don’t tell everything. How are his drops, how does he work? Shurmer with good info. Liked what he saw. (Sort of a nice way of saying Sam did not have anything around him to help).
Not what he didn’t see in Foles. But had to give up outstanding QB, great teammate, player–to get something.

PA RamParticipantRFL, I would not take any of those guys at #10.
I don’t think the Rams are in a desperate spot at QB and those guys don’t rate higher than 2nd rounders. Of course teams desperate for QBs may pick them higher but it sure seems that teams are looking for other options at QB. The Jets just traded for Ryan Fitzpatrick. I think it’s at least possible that Mariota falls a bit in this draft. Not sure how far but it’s not impossible he falls to #10. He and Winston are the only QBs with first round grades. And I’m not a huge fan of either but the Rams will probably take a hard look at it if he gets anywhere near #10. Or maybe they trade down and get extra picks–although the G.M. of the Seahawks apparently thinks there are only 16 first rounders in this draft.
I think they have to see how that falls, and as you said, see how free agency works out. I still want linemen but if Kevin White or Amari Cooper are sitting there I would not mind them selecting the WR(assuming they address most of the line issues in FA).
I kinda think, just a hunch–no idea really, that Fisher may really want to do this with Foles and try lower for a young QB or wait until next year. So even if Mariota is there I would not be shocked if they passed on him.
But we’ll see.

IMO…yes.I think they still may take a QB but I don’t think they will feel pressure to reach higher than they believe a guy is rated. I think this removes the desperation and allows for them to take another guy if someone special falls to them.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantI think Bradford is a better qb than Foles. Like, by a lot.
But then the Eagles paid for him in trade in a way that acknowledges that.If Foles can be a decent play-action qb then he’s all they need.
It just means scaling the expectations back for the offense, IMO.
It also means not having to worry about the 2 ACLs.
So all things being equal, I don’t think anyone would have looked to trade Bradford.
But because they had to make a choice of paying Bradford or moving on, and with them deciding to move on, I can’t imagine that one of the rookies the Rams could have taken(Petty, Grayson, Hundley) could have done anything better than Foles this year. So I believe the Rams did very well in that regard.
And even if Foles is not as good as Bradford(I don’t know what Foles is yet but he hasn’t been horrible)as you say, the Rams can win with him. The position is settled for now, and it gives the team more options at this point in free agency and the draft. Nothing says Foles is the long term guy. The Rams can evaluate that this year.
The more I think about it the more I like it.
It sucks that Sam had injuries but that’s just the way it was, and the Rams were in a tough spot. I think they got out of it the best way they could.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantthis trade sucks….shades of Jerome Bettis for Ernie Conwell…..
I agree with ZN, Bradford is a much better QB…… you don’t give up on a talent like Bradford……Despite Foles decent numbers in Philly, there is a reason why Chip Kelly traded him for Sam. Either Foles is dickheard or Chip Kelly is looking for better QB, even if he has ACL history.
Fair enough.
But would you have extended Bradford or just paid him for for the year?
If you want to keep Bradford it would have had to be one or the other.

Why Eagles Feel Great About Bradford
By Dave Spadaro
This was a move long in the works. The Eagles eyed Sam Bradford for weeks, and on Tuesday they made the move, acquiring Bradford in exchange for Nick Foles. Draft picks were involved. It was a huge move …This was a move long in the works. The Eagles eyed Rams quarterback Sam Bradford for weeks, and on Tuesday they made the move, acquiring Bradford in exchange for Nick Foles. Draft picks were involved. It was a huge move.
A former No. 1 overall draft pick (2010), Bradford’s NFL career has been stunted by a lack of offensive talent around him early in his St. Louis tenure and by injuries late with the Rams. He played only seven games in 2013 after being pulled down on a run to the sidelines and tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and then missed all of 2014 when he was drilled in the pocket and tore the same ACL in the preseason opener.
An extremely talented quarterback who is 6-4 and 224 pounds, Bradford is able to make every throw from every position on the field. When the Eagles studied him — and they did so very, very extensively before the trade — they saw a quarterback with special accuracy, with touch, with a big arm. A quarterback who can get the ball out quickly, who can make fast, good decisions. Bradford is, the Eagles think, a classic pocket quarterback with just enough mobility to work the pocket well and keep plays alive.
And so a deal was done on Tuesday, one that brings to Philadelphia the quarterback that head coach Chip Kelly wants. He wanted Sam Bradford. He identified Sam Bradford as a special talent who can make this offense soar. It cost the Eagles Foles, and everyone wishes him the best of luck. It cost the Eagles a second-round draft pick in 2016 and a swap of picks in 2015 that is a difference of, roughly, 20 spots in the draft after compensatory picks are considered.
It is a gamble, no question about that. Kelly isn’t afraid to make difficult, out-of-the-box decisions. But it is a gamble with a lot of upside because the Eagles think Bradford has the goods to be a franchise-type quarterback.
The misconception, perhaps, is that the offense the Eagles is one that we saw at Oregon, where the quarterback was mobile and a running threat. That’s not what the Eagles are offensively. The Eagles can run the football effectively with their running backs — and there is a need there that will be filled — and their blocking scheme, and they need a quarterback who can be accurate, who can play tempo football and who can get the ball to the receivers — a need position that the Eagles will address — in a timely fashion down the field and in the short passing game.
Bradford, the Eagles feel, can do it all. He had his troubles in St. Louis throwing to the likes of Brandon Lloyd and Brandon Gibson and Danny Amendola and Austin Pettis and Lance Kendricks and Laurent Robinson and Greg Salas and Jared Cook and Tavon Austin. The Rams didn’t have much other than Steven Jackson running the football to exhaustion working with a pretty bad offensive line.
And they had Bradford. And they pinned all of their hopes on him and just didn’t give him much help as he absorbed 105 sacks in his first three seasons (42 games) and another 15 in the seven games he played in 2013 when Bradford threw 14 touchdown passes and four interceptions. Oh, and consider this: Bradford has five games (of 49 played) in which he has thrown multiple interceptions. Foles and Mark Sanchez combined for seven multiple-interception games last season alone.
That’s the player the Eagles think they have acquired, a special talent with far more upside than they saw with Foles — and no lack of respect for him. He was very productive here and everyone wishes Foles the best of luck in St. Louis — or any other quarterback they saw in the market — free agency or the draft. The Eagles, despite the overwhelming rush by the media and fans to think otherwise, were not going to move up, up, up in the draft and take Oregon’s Marcus Mariota, the Heisman Trophy winner whom Kelly recruited. Nor did the Eagles feel their best option was to stay put and stick with Foles and extend his contract for the future.
Certainly, the deal hinges on Bradford remaining healthy and staying on the field for this offense. He had a concussion and some shoulder injuries at Oklahoma. He has the two ACL injuries and a shoulder injury in the NFL. Only twice in his five seasons has Bradford played a full 16 games.
The Eagles believe in their sports science program and their strength and conditioning program and they have the plan to put the right pieces around Bradford to help him stay healthy and make him more productive than he’s been in his career.
That’s why the Eagles did the deal, one on which they worked extremely hard and one that was, according to reports, off and on a couple of times — at least — in the last few weeks. They got the quarterback they wanted, one they think can be special in this offense. You may like the deal. You may not. You may have questions that just don’t have answers right now, specifically how the Eagles will replace the production from departed running back LeSean McCoy and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin and the weapons Kelly and vice president of player personnel Ed Marynowitz will bring in between now and September. Fair enough.
Wins and losses will dictate the wisdom of this decision. It was gutsy, no doubt about it. But being gutsy and having conviction is why Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie hired Kelly after the 2012 4-12 season. Twenty regular-season victories and a playoff appearance was a nice way to start Kelly’s NFL head coaching career, but it wasn’t the goal. Winning the whole thing is the objective, and the Eagles wanted the best quarterback they could get and Kelly wanted Bradford and then went out and made the deal.
Sam Bradford is the quarterback Kelly thinks can operate this offense to maximum efficiency. That’s why he is an Eagle today.

PA RamParticipantSo I’m at work tonight when all hell breaks loose.
A guy comes up and says he got an alert on his phone: the Rams traded Bradford for Foles.
WTF!
Didn’t see that coming.
So anyway, the Eagles fans hate the deal, hate Bradford, and are hoping that the deal isn’t finished–that it’s all part of some scheme to get Mariota. I saw some depression tonight–and they all believe they got the worst of the deal.
I see that some Rams fans also seem ready to jump off bridges.
As I said before when asked about Foles, I don’t watch the Eagles so I really don’t know any more than anyone else. I know that the Eagles fans don’t hate him. He does have a winning record. While they may not view him as Andrew Luck, they are comfortable with him.
I like this deal.
I like it and I don’t think that Bradford gave the Rams much choice. If he was willing to take a pay cut(not that he HAD to)the Rams probably would have brought him back. But there was no way they were giving him 12 million and I’m glad. While Bradford may never get injured again, while he may thrive for Kelly and go on to win playoff games or Superbowls, I will not criticize Snead and Fisher for the move. Because it’s also just as likely he gets injured again, never plays another down or just plays at a mediocre level. He was never Rodgers or Brees and no one claimed he was. Most people viewed him as a game manage type of QB who could win games.
I don’t know why Nick Foles can’t be that as well. But he doesn’t have the bad knee.
The Rams got the better of this deal and huge cap relief.
Now we have to see what they do in free agency and the draft.
But I’m feeling pretty good about this deal tonight.

March 9, 2015 at 2:07 pm in reply to: Eagles rumors: Sanchez, Foles, Mariota … including Foles to Rams #19717PA RamParticipantMaybe Foles will thrive in an offense that isn’t “fast forward” all the time.
I don’t know what it will cost–that’s key obviously. But at the right price I’d do it. At worst he can’t be worse than the possible draft choices this year, and he has experience. He’s young. If you get him you don’t have to draft a QB this year. You can fill other areas–maybe take a WR at #10 if that’s how the draft falls.
It’s hard to say because it all has to play out.
But I would not mind Foles coming to the Rams and giving that a try. There just aren’t great options. This may be one of the better ones.
We’ll see.

PA RamParticipantI agree with that. Maybe drop down and get an extra pick if you have to, but do something. It’s not like they can’t use a wide receiver but if the QB has no time to throw them the ball, what does it matter? And if Bradford does come back you sure as hell better protect him.

PA RamParticipantDaniel Ellsberg: Petraeus Case Shows Hypocrisy of Whistleblower Crackdown
If Petraeus did not commit a felony, neither did Snowden, Manning, Sterling, or Kiriakou, says leaker of Pentagon Papers……..
On Tuesday, Petraeus pleaded guilty to a single misdemeanor charge of “unauthorized removal and retention of classified material.” Under the parameters of the plea deal he made with the Justice Department, prosecutors will recommend two years probation and no jail time.”
Compare that to the actions of Chelsea Manning, who is serving 35 years for leaking classified information. As Ellsberg noted: “Chelsea Manning had access to SCI every day… where she worked in Iraq. She chose to disclose none of it, nothing higher than Secret”.
There is also the case of Jeffrey Sterling, convicted last month of leaking classified information to New York Times journalist James Risen, “having first revealed it to Congress, as I did,” Ellsberg continued.
Sterling was also convicted under the Espionage Act and will be sentenced later this year. Manning is serving 35 years in prison at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Ellsberg says Sterling’s “violations of security regulations were in no way more serious than what Petraeus has now admitted to”, and that, while it’s too late to do anything about his conviction, the judge should take the Petraeus plea bargain into account at his sentencing.
“If disclosing the identities of covert agents to an unauthorized person and storing them in several unauthorized locations deserves a charge with a maximum sentence of one year,” Ellsberg said, “then Edward Snowden should face not more than that same one count.”
“The government had the chance to hold Petreaus out as an example on the same felony Espionage Act charges they’ve leveled (unfairly) against every conscientious whistleblower they’ve indicted,” Timm concludes. “Their answer? Leaking should no longer be a felony. Let’s make sure we hold them to that, and not only for CIA Directors.”

PA RamParticipantI realize there are not really a lot of places to move to but I do agree with Bernie about Bradford cutting the Rams a break, considering how his career has gone.
Who else in Bradford’s position in the history of the NFL has done that?
Younger pro in his second contract territory coming back from injuries.
Who has ever treated that as them “owing” the team something?
First you’d have to tell me who has been in Bradford’s position.
I mean, I honestly don’t know. And even if there are a bunch of these guys who have(can’t think of them) it shouldn’t matter. Each situation is unique. And frankly, as I said, I get it. He doesn’t HAVE to do it. The Rams don’t HAVE to pay him either. I hope they don’t if he maintains his position.
I wish him well.
"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. " Philip K. Dick
PA RamParticipantI know the Rams are screwed but I would not give Bradford the big money. They haven’t had him anyway. If he won’t take less let him walk. Just move on. I realize there are not really a lot of places to move to but I do agree with Bernie about Bradford cutting the Rams a break, considering how his career has gone. Considering the question marks. I get why he won’t. One more injury and he’s done. I get all that.
But I don’t think the Rams should go another year throwing big money at him.
Would it suck watching him remain healthy the rest of his career somewhere else? Would it suck watching him be the QB they hoped he would be? Of course.
But if they DO pay him and he gets hurt again? I just can’t imagine.
It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out but I really hope they don’t just wave the white flag and pay him that contract.
If he does renegotiate–great. If not–move on.
