nittany ramModeratorThis is separate from you thesis?
And is this a MS or a PhD?
Did I tell you my son got Rubella from his vaccine?
Yes it was separate from the thesis. It’s just something I did for ‘fun’. I’m getting an MS from Michigan State University in Clinical Laboratory Science. The hospital where I work is paying for half of it so it’s a pretty sweet deal. I’m all done with my coursework and am just working on my thesis now.
Are you sure your son got the measles? The vaccine is an attenuated live virus and some people have a reaction that involves a rash and some minor symptoms but I’ve never heard of anyone getting full-blown measles from the vaccine and I couldn’t find anything on it during a (brief) search of the literature. He had only a rash, and a low fever for one day, but the test came back positive. They quarantined him for 10 days, and he missed a week and a half of college right out of the chute. I don’t know anything about it, but it seemed nobody at the clinic at USC did, either. They had about 10 people on him, and finally found 1 person who had seen a case of it years ago. But I assume the test is conclusive. I dunno.
Helluva a commute to MSU. Way to rack up frequent flyer miles. (Ever set foot on the campus?).
Well it’s normal to test positive for the virus because of the vaccine. In other words, his immune system made anti-rubella antibodies to the vaccine. So he tested positive not because he has the measles (an actual infection) but because he had been vaccinated. We expect people to test positive for Rubella in our lab because that means they’ve had their MMR vaccine and almost everyone does test positive.
Yeah obviously I’m taking the courses online but I did have to go to the MSU campus during the previous two summers to do lab work. It’s a big campus. Similar to Penn State’s but not as pretty.

nittany ramModeratorNittany,
Congrats!!
Will we be able to see your essay online?
And that is a pretty cool title. I have a feeling HBO is going to bid on the rights, and soon. The Night of Direct Oral Anticoagulants has the sound of classic Film Noir.
;>)
Thanks Billy. It will be available online but you may have to be a member of the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science to see it. I may be able to copy and paste it from my account. It’s no big deal, really. It was a ton of work though. Then rewrites and editing to satisfy Reviewer 1 and Reviewer 2.
nittany ramModeratorNah, I can’t because MNF is on tonight.
And truth be told even if it wasn’t I’d find something else to do instead. Watching those two hellspawn try to out lie each other does not make for compelling television viewing.
I have too much work to do at school, but even if I had the time, I’m not sure I could watch it. I would just wanna barf the whole time, and I would feel like complete shit after watching it. It would just upset me. The only reason to watch is the spectacle of a powerful empire smugly going down the drain.
Yeah, it would just piss me off listening to their BS. And I’d be thinking about what fucking liars they are and how their policies will make the poor poorer and the rich richer while they pretend to give a shit.
And then I’ll get depressed when I think about the large segments of the American people who buy into their BS.
I don’t need that aggravation. I’ve made so many enemies arguing about this stuff this election cycle that it isn’t worth it anymore. One of them is going to get elected anyway and the country will be what it will be.
I’m just going to watch football, read about stuff I like to read about, work on my thesis and only eat food with the GMO label. 😉
Did I tell ya I’m published (or will be soon)? The journal Clinical Laboratory Science is publishing a manuscript that I wrote. It’s titled, “The Direct Oral Anticoagulants Apixaban, Rivaroxaban and Edoxaban; Mechanism of Action and Laboratory Analysis”. And yes, it is every bit as interesting as the title suggests.
nittany ramModeratorHave the Rams had a DT-DE combo that good since Deacon/Merlin ?
w
vNope.
Jack Youngblood and Larry Brooks were close but they weren’t as talented as Quinn and Donald.
Not nearly as disruptive.
Like Deacon Jones and Merlin Olsen they are both ‘generational’ talents.
I just hope we can hold on to both of them.
nittany ramModeratori want to see more consistency though from this defense. too much talent and too many mental lapses for my taste. but the secondary being in such shambles may have something to do with that.
That’s been the issue with this defense for some time…inconsistency.
I think it’s a little better now. It started getting better sometime last season but it certainly could be better. It won’t ever be a truly great defense until it becomes more consistent.

nittany ramModeratorTop defensive grades:
DT Aaron Donald, 84.4
LB Alec Ogletree, 84.3
S T.J. McDonald, 81.7
DT Michael Brockers, 76.5
DE Robert Quinn, 73.3
Well, I guess we can conclude that the Ogletree to MLB experiment is a huge success.
The run defense hasn’t suffered with Tree at MLB (it may even be better) and he covers a lot more ground than Lauranitis did in pass defense.
That was one calculated risk that paid off nicely, anyway.
nittany ramModeratorPrior to 2015 Sims could always be counted on to commit a personal foul at the absolutely worst time for one, but last year he seemed to control his emotions better. I hope yesterday wasn’t a preview of things to come because refs aren’t going to put up with any BS this season due to the Steelers/Bengals playoff game last year.

nittany ramModeratorGurley’s post game press conference. Todd never looks comfortable talking to the press. He doesn’t like it.
nittany ramModeratorThe Arizona game looks very winnable right now.
Dare we think it?
3-1?!
nittany ramModeratorDuring the weather delay Jay Glazer said they’ll do an MRI tonight.
nittany ramModeratorI’m thinking of giving out plastic dinosaurs as well as candy this year.
w
vPlastic dinosaurs?
Awesome.
Back when I was trick-or-treating your house would have been spared an egging or soaping for giving out plastic dinosaurs.
As long as I got a good one that is…like a T. rex or Triceratops.
If you gave me an Iguanodon or some other wimpy hadrosaur, you’d be pulling toilet paper out of your trees for a month.
nittany ramModeratorWe have never had a visitor. Our driveway is steep and long.
We haven’t either. Probably because of all the snares, trip wires and booby traps I set.
nittany ramModeratorTulip poplar and black locust have been dropping leaves here for a month.
Our previous house had a pair of ginko trees at the end of the driveway. Interesting thing is the leaves would turn yellow but instead of the leaves dropping a little at a time over a period of several weeks all the leaves would drop all at once in a single day towards the end of fall. I’m not exaggerating when I say you would look at it one day and it would have its full complement of leaves and the next every single leaf would be lying in a pile beneath the tree.
nittany ramModeratorOne word…
Spruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuce.
Rams 12 (notice I did not say “13”, Raisinet?)
Bucs 10September 25, 2016 at 10:02 am in reply to: one streak or the other ends this Sunday against Tampa #53796
nittany ramModeratorThe Rams are one of the best if not THE best team in the league at being in streaks that involve losing.
As a matter of fact, they currently have a streak of 13 consecutive seasons of being associated in some way with a streak that involves losing.
And let’s not forget the mother of all losing streaks…losing 17 consecutive times to the 49’ers.
Masterful, that.

nittany ramModeratorI edited the original post to make sure everyone could see the article (a book review). I had to right click on the picture and open it in a new window to see the article before.
nittany ramModeratorTo do what the Patriots have done with 2nd and 3rd string QB’s is truly amazing. After only 3 games, Billicheat is already coach of the year.
And after Brady and Gronk, it’s not like that team is full of HOF’ers. This is truly a case where the sum is much greater than the parts. That’s due to brilliant coaching.
nittany ramModeratorShe is racist. I doubt anyone here would have argued otherwise.
Can you admit the same about Trump?
nittany ramModeratorCurse the twisted mind that could conceive of such a thing.
You realize you leave me no choice but to retaliate with even an even greater megatonnage of annoyance.

nittany ramModerator, ignorance is fertile soil for our doom.
Ahh, something, the left and the right, can agree on.
w
vNah, because the left and right wouldn’t agree on what constitutes ignorance.
nittany ramModeratorI can’t think of anything I’d want to ask him. He is not that interesting to me.
Much rather talk to Fisher or Snead. It would be pointless though because there’s no doubt that all my questions would be answered in meaningless coachspeak.
nittany ramModeratorA shark ‘attack’ of a different kind…

Those divers are being bathed in a big ol’ nasty cloud of shark poo.
nittany ramModeratorMaybe sharks dont like all those Genetically modified foods in us. Ever think of THAT.
w
vWell then, yet another reason to support GMO foods. They protect us from sharks. Thanks, Monsanto!
If it was left up to Big Organic, we’d all be shark bait.
nittany ramModerator, North American Waters had 42% of all confirmed unprovoked attacks worldwide
What is a provoked shark attack? (?)
When the person inadvertently does something to provoke the shark. Grab its fins, try to touch it, etc.

nittany ramModeratorThe word “attack” is usually a misnomer when it comes to sharks and people.
They are really just encounters. In most cases, the shark bites and lets go. And usually disappears. It is rare when they attempt another bite. The reason for this is the shark isn’t actually trying to eat the person. Usually it’s not even aggressive. It is investigating the person. Trying to figure out what the person is. Sharks investigate unusual objects by mouthing them. They get a sense of what an object is through taste. The shark tastes a person, the person doesn’t taste like food, so the shark moves on. Unfortunately, even a gentle shark bite can be catastrophic to a person but think about how the vast majority of people survive ‘attacks’.
If the shark really wanted to eat the person, the person would be eaten and there’s little the person could do to prevent it. The fact that so many people survive these encounters is proof in and of itself that sharks typically aren’t interested in eating them.
Calling these encounters “attacks” contributes to the false but widespread perception that sharks are simply savage killing machines. That perception is an obstacle in the race to protect them from extinction and they are being slaughtered at a rate of 75 – 100 million per year.

Every game I’ve ever been to has had them.

nittany ramModeratorNow, my guess is, as is the usual case, that his supporters will dismiss the mountains of facts and evidence, and just fall back on the narrative that’s he’s being persecuted and is the ultimate in perfection and can do no wrong.
We live in the ‘post truth’ era of American politics. Not that there was ever a time when politicians didn’t lie, but there’s never been a time when politicians could say such outrageously obvious lies and not be held accountable for it.
Until today.
Welcome to post truth America.
