nittany ramModeratorAt what point this season do the Rams redshirt Goff the entire season, no matter what?
If the Rams get through game 12, and are in the playoff picture, would they switch to Goff if they though he was ready? I don’t know. I don’t think so. I have to think it’s by mid-season. Game 8 or 9, or we don’t see him unless Keenum gets injured.
I think Fisher’s plan was to keep him on the bench the entire season if he could. So as long as Keenum is playing well Goff will sit IMO.
And I think I’m okay with that (as much as I am looking forward to a stronger, more accurate arm). Keenum’s misses and floats are disappointing, but he IS adequate. Barely, maybe. But he is adequate. I would like to see Goff get some garbage duty, though the way the Rams play, there may be no garbage time the entire year. Close, low-scoring games.
Bring on Buffalo. I can’t wait. I am going with my son, and sitting in 93 degree direct sun all day with no shade anywhere (and apparently no water).
After the game, I said Case Keenum was what a really good Austin Davis would look like because he’s a gamer with limited ability. But he’s smarter than Davis. So I’m gonna revise my comparison. Case Keenum is a more mobile, grittier version of Pat Haden.
nittany ramModeratorNo it wasn’t and who wants to win a house in Maine in time for the winter?
Well, his house is on the coast of Maine. Mine is in Vermont.
His house will feel downright balmy compared to mine.

nittany ramModeratorO line has problems in the run game because it is so obvious to the Defenses that the WRs can’t beat anyone consistently, so they aren’t afraid (giving up a 18 yard slant is no big deal once a half), and so defenses just play the run like it is 3rd and 1 every down. Arizona crashed down with LBs and the house a lot of the time. TE would help this a bit, I think. I know this is simplistic…maybe I am wrong. Also, I can’t think of a worse run blocking O line in the last 20 years (incl Colts crappy O line with no talent).
I believe in these lineman as run blockers, so hopefully this is worked out….so we can become a Fisher type of team (as long as he is coaching). Right now, all 4 games had very substandard run blocking most of the time.In the early to mid-80s the Rams had no passing threat. Defenses put 8 or 9 defenders in the box yet Dickerson still racked up huge numbers. The difference between then and now was that 80’s team had an o-line that could run block. On paper it seems like the current o-line should be good run blockers too but it isn’t translating to the field.

nittany ramModeratorI remember Tarkenton making that sort of play against the Rams countless times.
And they were never called back.
#!*&!#@ Robinson!
nittany ramModeratorYou know what’s looking like now with the SF game?
It was a wake-up call.
New team leadership. They acted dramatically on it, called a players only meeting, and they turned that game into a wake-up.
You know what it’s also looking like. The offensive changes were enough so that they were essentially learning it again. Less carry over from last year. Now they are picking it up and getting in stride. More 2nd nature.
Yes, that could all be true. Makes sense.
Seems like their changes set the running game back more than they anticipated. After what looked like a ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ moment regarding the running game in the second half of the Bucs game it looks like the tunnel collapsed against Arizona.
But, interestingly, going back to last season, Gurley has had only one 100 yard game in his last 12 games. And he’s had only two games where he averaged at least 4 yds/carry. So maybe his troubles have nothing to do with any changes made to the offense over the offseason. Maybe the Rams running game is just inherently weak due to what…poor run blocking, defenses not respecting the Rams passing game? Both? Neither?

nittany ramModeratorOh to be able to play that 9’ers game over again.
At season’s end the Rams will be sitting at 15-1 and looking to make history but for that anomalous blip at the start of the year.
I know what you’re thinking, “14-2? Possibly. 13-3? Most assuredly. But 15-1?”
Bet the house.
15-1.
Rams 15-1? Absolutely. I will bet your house.
I didn’t say ‘my’ house. I clearly said ‘the’ house, which obviously refers to zn’s house. I thought that was self-evident.
nittany ramModeratorSims–half sack and a fumble recovery
Sims’ boneheaded-ness in regards to personal fouls is really wearing thin with me. I often wonder if his positives outweigh his negatives.
nittany ramModeratorI just don’t see them winning on the road against a very good football team that just got embarrassed last week, and is looking up at a division rival that they hate. The term Must Win is going to flung around, and Arians is a very good coach. The Rams offense hasn’t shown it can compete against a good defense, and the Cards are good.
I hope the Rams don’t get embarrassed.
Can we make a rule that going forward, only Rams fans will be allowed to post here?

Fine dining tonight.
I remember as a kid melting provolone cheese on them and eating them in a sandwich. They weren’t bad that way.
Oh, but I’m sure they’ll be just as good plain with salad greens.
I like chicken with malt vinegar and some hush puppies.
Me too except exchange chicken with fried fish.

nittany ramModeratorYou guys must get out more than I do. You eat all these strange foods. Besides, cheeseburger/fries and pizza, what is there? OK, breakfast and pie.
I’m with you, ag. Pizza, burgers, fries, spaghetti…I could live quite happily (albeit briefly) eating nothing but that. I’m working until 4 pm so I’ll probably get a pizza too – New York style with pepperoni and mushrooms.
nittany ramModeratorThe show on NPR that I don’t like is the one hosted by Tom Ashcroft. He’s too wordy. I get the impression he’s trying to show everyone how smart he is and all I’m thinking is ask the fucking question already. He had some oil execs on his show once and instead of asking them hard questions he pretty much let them set the agenda. For example he never even mentioned global warming. A caller tried to take them to task and Ashcroft cut him off. I couldn’t believe it.
nittany ramModeratorYeah I listened to it too while I was at work. It was s good show.
nittany ramModeratorI think it’s probably a generational thing too. Kids today grow up with so many things screaming for their attention. It’s different. Also–fantasy football has changed things a bit. People can be actively involved managing their own teams and so team loyalty isn’t what it used to be. They can follow through stats. You have the Madden games which offer another football like diversion with active participation plus a million other games.
Then there is the internet itself. There is the free streaming.
There is the cost of going to an actual game.
And don’t forget the cost to support a team through merchandise. Not cheap stuff.
It’s lots of things–but I’m not so sure the NFL’s plan to take over the world will work.
Corporations believe growth–one way or another. The reality is there is no such thing.
What’s after the world?
Space? Alien populations?
It can’t grow forever–and people, generations and their interests change.
Quite frankly I don’t think there’s enough interest in American football to expand overseas like the NFL is rumored to want to do. Especially considering how cost prohibitive it is to attend a game. And what will happen to the fan interest when the Munich Muskrats post losing records for 3 or 4 straight years?

nittany ramModeratorAll those commercials are filmed during the offseason, right?
And if that’s the case, why would they affect his play on the field?
nittany ramModeratorWell, i guess there’s just no votes to be had in talking about the poor. Ya know. Itz all about the ‘middle class’.
Well, there’s two memes that the middle and upper class believe about the poor that are so ridiculous it’s impossible to fathom. Yet they believe them anyway…
1. The poor have it easy.
2. The poor are poor by choice (ie they don’t want to work).
I see those ideas repeated endlessly in conversations among friends and coworkers and on social media.
As long as that sort of attitude exists among the ‘haves’ the politicians trying to win their votes won’t see a percentage in talking about the ‘havenots’.

nittany ramModeratorTo me this comes down to whether you think Fisher and his offensive coaches are Idiots,
or not. I mean, Fisher and his coaches see the kid every day, And they see Keenum every day.Its just not an issue to me, yet.
w
vThat’s how I vote.
Well a coach can be wrong or misread something without being an idiot.
That said, I happily differ to Fisher and his staff about when Goff should start. I have no reason to think they are misjudging Goff’s readiness. It’s not an issue to me, either.
However, they could be, and it wouldn’t mean they’re idiots if they are. No one including the coaches expected Prescot, Siemian or Wentz to play as well as they have. And even though he’s not a rookie, I’m sure Chip Kelly didn’t foresee Gabbert being so bad.
Coaches misjudge players all the time. They can really only make educated guesses about their readiness. We really won’t know if Goff is ready to start until he starts.

nittany ramModeratorthat being said i hope he’s starting next week.
I think if Goff is starting next week, it means that Keenum was injured against the Cards.
I think there’s a good chance the Rams pass offense will be ineffectual this week against Arizona. The Cards haven’t been great against the run but I’m not sure the Rams are ready to take advantage of that quite yet even though they started to get on track in the second half vs the Bucs. So to me this week looks like a loss and a potentially embarrassing one. So the “when is Goff going to start” media hype could get ratcheted up a good bit. Hopefully the Rams somehow come away with a victory which should keep the Goff stuff on a low simmer.
Regardless I don’t see Goff”s first start coming before the bye unless Keenum is injured.
nittany ramModeratorIt feels good to be over .500.
Which is why they won’t be over 0.500 for long.
If the game was in LA I would give the Rams the nod but I don’t like them facing an Arizona team at home that has their backs against the wall. Bruce Aryans doesn’t like Fisher and these teams don’t like each other. I think Arizona will be ready to play.
nittany ramModeratorOne thing that has dogged the Rams over the years is a lack of players willing and able to make the key play at the key time.
In two weeks, two players have stepped up to provide the necessary play to seal the win.
Ok, they’ve proven they can come through in the clutch.
How about letting us have a victory that’s already been decided by the middle of the third quarter? Maybe a nice 4 TD lead with 7 minutes or so left in the third?* My ol’ ticker could use a break for chrissakes. It’s constantly being bathed in trans-fats as it is. It’s been a real trooper up to now but I don’t want to push it.
*I was going to ask for a win that’s already decided by the end of the 1st quarter, but you know…baby steps.

nittany ramModeratorQuinn made a great play hustling down the field but Winston was not going to score anyway because if you look at the video, you’ll a see that a DB would have tackled him 1/10th of a second after Quinn did anyway.
JT said WInston had clear sailing to the endzone but that’s not true at all. He was never going to score.
nittany ramModeratorMore sour grapes from JT. He makes it sound as if the Rams had no say in the outcome of the game. Both teams made mistakes that kept the other team in it. Both teams had and relinquished control at various points of the game.
This wasn’t the Bucs’ game to lose. It was a close game played by two evenly matched teams. It could have gone either way. The Rams did just enough to win. Pardon all the cliches but they fit here nicely.
nittany ramModeratorHe had only a rash, and a low fever for one day, but the test came back positive. They quarantined him for 10 days, and he missed a week and a half of college right out of the chute. I don’t know anything about it, but it seemed nobody at the clinic at USC did, either. They had about 10 people on him, and finally found 1 person who had seen a case of it years ago. But I assume the test is conclusive. I dunno.
Helluva a commute to MSU. Way to rack up frequent flyer miles. (Ever set foot on the campus?).
Well it’s normal to test positive for the virus because of the vaccine. In other words, his immune system made anti-rubella antibodies to the vaccine. So he tested positive not because he has the measles (an actual infection) but because he had been vaccinated. We expect people to test positive for Rubella in our lab because that means they’ve had their MMR vaccine and almost everyone does test positive.
Yeah obviously I’m taking the courses online but I did have to go to the MSU campus during the previous two summers to do lab work. It’s a big campus. Similar to Penn State’s but not as pretty.
nittany ramModeratorThis is separate from you thesis?
And is this a MS or a PhD?
Did I tell you my son got Rubella from his vaccine?
Yes it was separate from the thesis. It’s just something I did for ‘fun’. I’m getting an MS from Michigan State University in Clinical Laboratory Science. The hospital where I work is paying for half of it so it’s a pretty sweet deal. I’m all done with my coursework and am just working on my thesis now.
Are you sure your son got the measles? The vaccine is an attenuated live virus and some people have a reaction that involves a rash and some minor symptoms but I’ve never heard of anyone getting full-blown measles from the vaccine and I couldn’t find anything on it during a (brief) search of the literature. He had only a rash, and a low fever for one day, but the test came back positive. nittany ramModeratorNittany,
Congrats!!
Will we be able to see your essay online?
And that is a pretty cool title. I have a feeling HBO is going to bid on the rights, and soon. The Night of Direct Oral Anticoagulants has the sound of classic Film Noir.
;>)
Thanks Billy. It will be available online but you may have to be a member of the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Science to see it. I may be able to copy and paste it from my account. It’s no big deal, really. It was a ton of work though. Then rewrites and editing to satisfy Reviewer 1 and Reviewer 2.
nittany ramModeratorNah, I can’t because MNF is on tonight.
And truth be told even if it wasn’t I’d find something else to do instead. Watching those two hellspawn try to out lie each other does not make for compelling television viewing.
I have too much work to do at school, but even if I had the time, I’m not sure I could watch it. I would just wanna barf the whole time, and I would feel like complete shit after watching it. It would just upset me. The only reason to watch is the spectacle of a powerful empire smugly going down the drain.
Yeah, it would just piss me off listening to their BS. And I’d be thinking about what fucking liars they are and how their policies will make the poor poorer and the rich richer while they pretend to give a shit.
And then I’ll get depressed when I think about the large segments of the American people who buy into their BS.
I don’t need that aggravation. I’ve made so many enemies arguing about this stuff this election cycle that it isn’t worth it anymore. One of them is going to get elected anyway and the country will be what it will be.
I’m just going to watch football, read about stuff I like to read about, work on my thesis and only eat food with the GMO label. 😉
Did I tell ya I’m published (or will be soon)? The journal Clinical Laboratory Science is publishing a manuscript that I wrote. It’s titled, “The Direct Oral Anticoagulants Apixaban, Rivaroxaban and Edoxaban; Mechanism of Action and Laboratory Analysis”. And yes, it is every bit as interesting as the title suggests.
