October 27, 2017 at 7:03 am in reply to: Football Outsiders on Donald being ridiculously good #76582
nittany ramModeratorHow does Donald compares to the all-time greats at DT? Does he already deserve to be mentioned among the best ever of the game…Merlin Olsen, Bob Lilly, Alan Page, Joe Greene, etc?
It would be cool if PFF went back and looked at film of those players and graded them using the same metrics they use today.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Donald graded out better than them. He may be the best DT who ever played.
It’s exceedingly rare for a team to have the best player of all-time at a given position on their roster. Obviously it’s even more rare to have the two best players of all-time at their positions on their roster at the same time.
But the Rams probably do in Hekker and Donald.
nittany ramModeratorThat’s considered betrayal?
Sanders betrayed the democrats in much the same way that Harriet Tubman betrayed slave owners.
nittany ramModeratorThats exactly the way they should be handling him. Having said that he just doesnt have the ‘bend-around-the-corner-ability’ he used to have. He still has the ‘get off’ or ‘speed’ but he doesnt seem to have the speed PLUS power PLUS ‘twistyness’ to bull the OT and get around the corner. He looks like most of the time he just rockets upfield and zooms past the QB and ends up on the ground. The ‘turn’ around the corner just isnt happening anymore. And i assmue thats the effect of the back-injury-surgery.
I imagine, Quinn and Tavon will be gone next year. Though i dunno the cap situation with Quinn.
w
vYeah, that’s my impression too. The back injuries have made him stiff.
I don’t see how he remains a Ram at his current salary. Same with Tavon, of course. Maybe they would take a pay cut to stay.
nittany ramModeratorThe Rams will f’n kill em’.
nittany ramModeratorPeople worried about Quinn. Would Quinn be his old productive self? Turns out–he’s not. AND it doesn’t matter. Rams are 5th in sacks anyway.
…
I’m still holding out hope (albeit fading) that he has a bigger impact as he gains more experience in his new role.
If that doesn’t happen I guess it will be hard to justify his salary given his limited production.
October 23, 2017 at 9:34 am in reply to: With two weeks to prepare, can Rams challenge the Giants? #76446
nittany ramModeratorOf course, anything can happen in the NFL but the Rams should destroy the G-men. If the Rams just bring their B- game they should win.
nittany ramModeratorThat’s the one stadium in the North East I’ve never visited.
October 20, 2017 at 11:57 am in reply to: Can the Rams beat Arizona in London? Must win game? #76299
nittany ramModeratorI think the Rams could win this game fairly easily. The Card’s o-line is terrible and Palmer has sloth-like mobility. Their defense has been pretty bad as well. On paper this should be a slaughter.
Which means the Rams will probably find a way to lose.
Nevertheless, I’m gonna say: Rams 34, Cards 17.
October 16, 2017 at 3:31 pm in reply to: week 7 thotz…are the Rams shaping up into a contender? #76181
nittany ramModeratorPlus…it’s well-known that Fitzgerald and Palmer are at the age where jet lag really takes a toll physically. It’s questionable whether they will even make it to the stadium.
Plus, I hear that BBC Four is planning a “Last of the Summer Wine” marathon this weekend. If they happen to catch part of that there’s a good chance they won’t even make the flight home.
nittany ramModerator
nittany ramModeratorYeah, the Rams don’t really have a home field advantage. The greater LA area has a population of 18 million people. It’s hard to believe with a population of that size you can’t find 60,000 people who want to go to a football game.
Overall, I’m glad they are back in LA. That’s where they were when I became a fan and most of my fondest memories of the Rams were formed there. But I’m not sure even winning will fill that stadium. I’m not sure LA cares enough or ever will. It’s not a knock on LA. Other than a few thousand diehards, it’s not like the city campaigned to get the Rams back.
But I find the lack of interest odd. There’s less than a million people in the greater Pittsburgh area but if the Steelers built a 300,000 seat stadium they’d fill it.
nittany ramModeratorgoff got through a really rough stretch of 2 games and looked… ok.
keep telling myself gotta be patient…
So, how have defenses been able to slow down Goff?
Are they taking away his primary target and he’s having trouble getting through his progressions?
Is he locking on?
Or is it mostly a matter of playing really good defenses?
nittany ramModerator2006 I think you mean. Typo man. In 2008 they went 2-14. Which, admittedly, does have a 2 and a 4 in it.
Well, you didn’t specify the order in which the numbers had to appear.
I’m not a mind reader. Next time be more clear.

nittany ramModeratorWhen was the last time Rams were 4-2?
2008. They finished 8-8.
nittany ramModeratorTough scrappy win against a great defense.
Defenses have figured out how to limit the Rams passing game.
Fortunately they don’t have to face the Seahawks’ and Jaguars’ defense every week.
nittany ramModerator
Sorry, but PFF’s ranking of Goff as only a middlin’ QB doesn’t pass the eye test. There aren’t 15 QBs having better seasons than Goff.
October 10, 2017 at 5:38 pm in reply to: Rams buzz, power rankings, Football Outside rankings, etc. #75917
nittany ramModeratorfrom Week 6 NFL Power Rankings: And your playoff chances are …
11. Los Angeles Rams
2017 record: 3-2
Week 5 ranking: No. 1616.2 percent chance. That percentage might seem low for a 3-2 Rams team, but keep in mind that they currently rank 25th in efficiency, according to FPI. And despite his improvements, Jared Goff ranks just 15th in Total QBR through five weeks.
What is this “efficiency” stat and why should I care about it?
nittany ramModeratorA little more air under that throw, and he would have had it. I see all responsibility for the incompletion directed at Kupp, but I think Goff threw it too hard. Kupp could have caught it, maybe. It would have been an outstanding catch. He was open, and with a touch less tabasco on that, the Rams would be all anyone talked about yesterday.
That’s what I originally thought when it happened. But the more I look at it…I dunno…he shoulda’ caught it.
nittany ramModeratorI saw it the other night.
It’s very good.
It’s also a little weird and unexpected. The trailers would have you think it’s an action movie. It is not.
It’s also not like the first movie. It doesn’t have the “Sam Spade” movie vibe of the original.
Because it’s so different may explain why it’s not doing well at the box office.
But it’s very much worth seeing. My wife, who was sorta ‘meh’ about the original, LOVED this film.
nittany ramModeratorThe Rams will roast them like a sausage in a refinery fire.
I see your Seahawks’ victory has emboldened you to show your face around here.
(Zooey’s face)

But please try to show a little class and 86 the sarcastic remarks about the Rams’ chances against future opponents, mkay?
nittany ramModeratoron defense i think fournette is starting to pick up speed. so big test for run defense. they did ok against seattle, but their running game is suspect at best. bortles should present less problems than wilson.
They ran for 231 yards against Pittsburgh. Fournette had 181 yards of that.
nittany ramModeratorPer @NFLResearch, Jacksonville @Jaguars lead the @NFL in:
✅Point Differential +56
✅Turnover Differential +10
✅Sack Differential +15— Chris Wesseling (@ChrisWesseling) October 9, 2017
nittany ramModeratorNot could be tough…will be tough.
Great defense, good running game. Passing game about what you’d expect with Blake Bortles at QB.
This is no gimmee.
nittany ramModeratorThe Rams have issues scoring TDs in the redzone. That was an issue for McVay in Washington too, wasn’t it? That’s something McVay still hasn’t figured out.
nittany ramModeratorThe Rams defense played really well.
nittany ramModeratorWhat do you care? Amish don’t have TVs anyway.
Seriously though, is this the league or the networks behind the push to make sure the Cowboys are seen by as many people as possible every week?
Maybe it’s both, but you wouldn’t think the league would be happy to promote the perception that the only teams that matter are the Cowboys, Packers and Steelers.
nittany ramModeratorI love what Kupp said here. Its the opposite of the whole ‘WR-Diva-prima-donna’ thing, aint it. Can you imagine Dez saying it?
w
vDez’s mantra is ‘me, not you’.
nittany ramModeratorI hope to see it tonight. I rewatched the original a couple weeks ago as preparation.

October 5, 2017 at 6:51 am in reply to: power rankings & stats rankings, Week 5 (including Football Outsiders rankings) #75551
nittany ramModeratorWow ESPN didn’t care that the Rams beat Dallas in Dallas.
Well, I get that. It’s hard to trust a team when there’s a perception that they can’t stop the run.
As far as the Rams go, I think it’s more “haven’t” than “can’t” meaning I think they’ll get better. There’s been flashes, but I guess we’ll see.
October 3, 2017 at 3:26 pm in reply to: Rams getting grief for the uniform they wore against Dallas #75437
nittany ramModeratorYeah extremely dumb. I mean, this is a professional football worth billions of dollars. Whoever made that decision should be dismissed.
They should just use the old helmets and pants untiil they can match the jerseys.
That’s what I thought at first, but the thing is I love the white horned helmets. The entire ensemble looks ok when they are wearing their white jerseys because there isn’t a lot of gold on the jersey anyway.
