Moderatori think they have to. like i said on the gameday chat i prefer that it be through free agency. someone who can step in right away. obviously things will change between now and then, but there are guys like sanu and jeffery due for free agency next year. doesn’t even have to be someone of the caliber of a jeffery. just someone who is consistent.
Yeah I’d prefer a vet FA who is more ‘turn key’…ready to go/doesn’t need to master his craft.

Moderatorcall me crazy, but i think the rams gotta chance next week. but they gotta slow ap down.
When’s the last time a
Ram team with a Winning Record
had a big game against
another team with a Winning Record?I think RFL’s point about the passing game
comes into play against the Vikes.
Against a ‘good team’ the Rams just
cant be one dimensional.
They’ll need some consistent play
from Foles and the Oline, one would think.
But the Vikes aint exactly the Patriots.
This one is winnable.w
vYeah, the Vikes have gotten to 5-2 by beating the likes of the Bears and Lions every week and they’ve been close-fought contests. Remember the 9ers destroyed the Vikinga in week one. I think the Rams should win this game, but it’s on the road and the Vikings do have some weapons. It will be interesting to see what happens.

ModeratorThat jersey looks like it would be a good high visibility top for a highway worker.
Yeah, they are dangerously close to moving into the putred fluorescent realm of the Seahawks. Please tell me they’re not going to reap fashion ideas from the Seahawks.

ModeratorI’m not really focused on the playoffs either but I do want them to win every game they SHOULD win – this being one of those games (the others being the Washington and Pittsburgh games as determined through overwhelming and unrefutable consensus).
And since this team has yet to demonstrate the ability to consistently throttle their inferiors, I worry.
nittany ram
ModeratorThis game actually worries me…the Rams being huge favorites at home over a reeling and decimated rival…
It reminds me of those movies where the hero is rescuing a hostage and when he arrives at the location where the hostage is being held he finds the door unlocked and no bad guys so he immediately suspects a trap….”I don’t like this. This is too easy…”

ModeratorWell, this season the Rams have lost to two teams they should have beaten. They lost to Washington on the road and Pittsburgh at home.
I’m using a different approach than you. I am saying, in advance, could the Rams reasonably be favored.
Some say the Washington game fits that. I dunno yet. There’s a possibility that Washington is better than we assumed.
I don’t count the Pittsburgh game. No one gave the Rams a chance in that game.
Why did they lose either game? IMO because the offense is going to take time.
So to me, you’re saying that’s a game they COULD HAVE won. (GB too for that matter.) But to me, even that’s a nice glass half-full surprise. It was not a thing anyone thought in advance, BR going out or not. In the end Pitts. will be a team with a winning record and looking back, will not count as a team anyone would reasonably expect the Rams SHOULD HAVE won, though it was a nice revelation that they COULD HAVE won it.
…
Well I counted the Steelers game as a game they should have won partly because I misremembered some things about the Steelers including thinking Bell was out for that game. However, I still think Rothlisberger’s injury made that game a ‘should win’ game but I’m not as married to that as I was.

ModeratorWell, this season the Rams have lost to two teams they should have beaten. They lost to Washington on the road and Pittsburgh at home. Yes, the Pittsburgh game is a game they should have won. They had them at home and knocked Rothlisberger out of the game. They beat one team they should have (Browns). So this year so far they are 1-2 in games they should have won. So, what Laurinaitis says is true only if beating the Browns is the start of a trend. But that’s something nobody can know as of yet.

ModeratorThis is the same QB who led SF to consecutive playoff wins
over the Packers. And now he’s a mole-killer ?
How does that happen?Guesses…
In 2012 when he came on the scene the “read option” was new. Defenses have adapted since that time?
He hasn’t really developed since 2012. Take his first read away and he flounders?
Erosion of talent around him, especially on the o-line and defense?
New coaching staff not utilizing his strengths/trying to make him something he’s not? Too inaccurate to be a pocket passer?

ModeratorI still can’t believe what the Dolphins did to that classic logo. It’s a crime against humanity and should be punishable as such.
nittany ram
ModeratorI think this is the game at which the 49ers will look back, and think, “Why did we even bother to suit up?’
Because they so thoroughly destroy the Rams that they realize they could have won the game wearing just their street clothes and Thom McCans?

Apart from the Rams’ division games I’d call that Vikings’ game a must-win to have a shot at a playoff berth. Long way to go but could be a factor come late December.
If you assume both Minnesota (vs. Chicago) and the Rams (vs. SF) win this weekend, then they’re both in wildcard contention.
A Rams win vs. the Vikings would have them both at 5-3 but the Rams would have not only the head-to-head tiebreaker but a 4-2 record in the NFC vs. 3-2 for Minnesota.
Minn is doing well but they lost to the only good team they’ve played so it’s hard to get an accurate read on them. Still, beating the Vikings on the road will be difficult.
nittany ram
ModeratorYeah, but wouldn’t how long he holds the ball be partially out of his control? If his first read is open he can throw quickly. But if his first read fails to get separation, then he has to move through his other reads until he finds someone who is open which means he has to hold the ball longer.
So we just can’t say “Foles should just throw quicker”, because when he throws isn’t entirely up to him.

ModeratorFoles has given me nuthin’ I didn’t get from Hill.
Yeah, Foles could be better, but I think he’s noticeably better than Hill (and Clemmons and Davis). He at least can make throws down the field which Hill and the others couldn’t make. I think he’s going to improve as the year progresses. Part of the problem is, as usual, the Rams WR’s don’t scare anyone. In camp with Quick out Foles and Cook developed a rapport because Cook is all-world in practice. Problem is, in the games Cook’s not even all-township. Maybe Quick will start to get back to where he was before the injury which would give Foles another option in the passing game that defenses would have to respect. Right now the Rams passing game is pretty limited. It consists of bubble screens to Tavon, short crossing routes to Cook and the occasional deep throw to Britt and Bailey.

ModeratorKapernick trained under Warner this past offseason and actually looks worse than ever.
Could it be that Warner, like any respectable ex-Ram/Cardinal should do, purposely sabotaged the 49ers QB’s career?
nittany ram
ModeratorI am tired of the number of false starts, and holding calls we get.
The offsides penalties were maddening but I think that was an anomaly. The Rams weren’t committing as many penalties as previous year’s coming into this game. Now try to enjoy the win, Jack. 😎

ModeratorThe Rams defense is dominant. It may be the best in the league when you consider how little help they get from the offense. Think of what they would look like if they were paired with an offense that could stay on the field.
The offense struggles but usually manages to get a few big plays every game.

when the Rams rush the passer they win when they don’t they lose….which is bad news this week. Thomas will dominate Quinn, Schwartz who shut out Von Miller will dominate Hayes and Westbrook? Greco, Bitonia and Mack will easily shut down Donald who has had 5 straight games of declining pff scores…
Cleveland’s an elite 3rd down team that features rb Duke Johnson, 2nd best receiving rb in last years draft, and te Barnridge…vs our poor covering lber’s and safeties….Rams are 27th in the league in pd even with that pass rush. have a hard time seeing the Rams holding Cleveland under 28 points
IMO game comes down to how many points do the Rams offense score…better be more then 28. Shelton will manhandle Barnes. Rams moved Garrett Reynolds to lg to help the hapless Robinson. Kirksey has the speed to get outside vs Gurley. Nate Orchard is getting more snaps over Kruger….like the Rams lot of young talent.
lot of bad matchups.BUT a home game after a bye week…a test of the coaching staff..good coaches will dominate opponents after the bye..especially in a home game. Fisher moved Reynolds to lg. We will see what other changes they made. IMO this game IS the season. Fisher and the Rams have to win to have any credibility
going forward…for the sack of argument lets say the feckless Rams win 31-28 to keep fans dreams alive BUT the end of all pro Fisher threads if they lose
Sheesh…I didn’t realize Cleveland was such a juggernaut.
The Broncos managed to sack McCown 4 times, despite any success they had against Von Miller. If the Broncos could get to McCown, so can the Rams.
He talks about bad match-ups for the Rams, but the most glaring match-up I see is Gurley against the league’s 30th ranked rush defense.
I’m not saying the Rams can’t lose – we know all too well just how adept the Rams are at losing to teams they shouldn’t lose to – but there’s no way that at least on paper, most of the match-ups don’t favor the Rams. This is a game the Rams *should* win, not one they would be lucky to win as the hammer suggests.

October 24, 2015 at 12:19 pm in reply to: catch percentage, drops, and other bad things from the dark side #32835nittany ram
ModeratorEven if some guys do return to form getting another WR may not be a bad idea. As Cosell says somewhere below, the Rams receiving group is pretty average and they lack a true number one WR.
Except it looks better when Kendricks and Quick are performing, Cook gets his career average, and there’s pass protection.
(Career avg. on Cook isn’t good but he’s worse now. In 2013 it was 0.375 drops per game, in 2014 it was 0.3125 drops per game, in 2015 so far it’s 0.6 drops per game…his avg. has doubled over what it was the last 2 years.)
Cosell, remember, is not a Rams historian. Last year he didn’t complain about the receivers. This year, he doesn’t recall what he said last year about the Rams receivers, though. It’s a thing where recent impressions become more absolute.
I am not against getting a receiver, but I am interested in the fact that so many look worse than usual at the same time. Honestly, what are the odds that 4 WRs/TEs all show career worst problems all at the same time? What that suggests to me is that the problem may not be the players. There’s something else going on.
And I don’t have any idea what that could be, except that last time there was a drops epidemic involving several players was in 2011. New system and not feeling comfortable.
It may also be that catching passes from Foles in practices and in games isn’t the same, which hints at an adjustment period as they all get on the same page.
.
.
You seem to be very invested in the Rams not getting better at receiver?
Why?
What do you stand to gain if the Rams’ passing game doesn’t improve?
October 24, 2015 at 10:51 am in reply to: catch percentage, drops, and other bad things from the dark side #32833nittany ram
ModeratorMaybe draft a WR high next year?
Maybe sign a solid Vet WR ?Unless, as I suggested, a guy or 2 returns to form. For example, Kendricks led them in catch percentage for 3 straight years (2012-14). This recent drops thing is actually unusual for him.
There is not doom in EVERYTHING.
Sometimes, some stuff gets better.

Could we please stop pretending that the Rams would have gone on some dynamic, unstoppable run with a healthy Bradford at QB?
Oh Bernie, you knucklehead, you.
Do you really think a healthy Sam Bradford wouldn’t have had a significant impact on the Rams’ record the past couple of seasons? Really? There were plenty of games there for the taking but for a lack of a competent QB.

Barnes are the only starters. Although,
Barron
Quick
Zuerlein are close to being considered starters. All the rest are backups or rotational players.
Wow, that’s a large fraction of their defensive backfield going into Free Agency. Hard to imagine being able to resign them all.
Assuming the Rams first pick is nestled somewhere deep in the second half of the first round (fingers crossed), I guess they’ll be looking at guys like Mills, Sutton and Connors as replacements.

ModeratorI just remember the physicality and toughness exhibited by the Rams that day and their refusal to quit. Even as long as he had been a Ram I still had not really warmed up to SJax going into that game. I liked him as a player but to me he was nothing special. But the sheer determination and will to win he exhibited in that game won me over. It’s easily my favorite SJax performance.
