InvaderRamModerator
right now jefferson is my favorite pick of this draft. but lewis and burgess could easily end up surpassing him when it’s all said and done.
not to mention williams and hoecht. this defense. can’t wait to see how it develops.
InvaderRamModeratorLewis looks a lot like Floyd to me so he seems to be a pick for next year and a replacement for Floyd. I’m not expecting to see much of him this year.
i expect floyd to start. but i also expect to see plenty of lewis in the rotation along with williams. polite should be in the mix as well.
ebukam and okoronkwo have their work cut out for them. neither of them have really impressed me.
InvaderRamModeratorI actually kinda like Allen and am rooting for him to be the starting center this year–he’s tough, strong, and moves pretty well. According to PFF he was the 15th best run blocking center. And that’s as a 24 year old with almost no experience.
i’m not the biggest fan. but i certainly won’t root against him.
InvaderRamModeratorIt would be a nice to have a highly touted prospect on the line, but McVay may be happy to use the same line he did last year.
using the same line the rams used toward the end of the season would be good. the offensive line needs to find cohesiveness. which could be a problem this year with all the uncertainty.
i find myself more interested in the defensive side of this draft. from burgess to lewis to johnston to williams to hoecht. there’s some real athleticism being added to that side. really excited to see what staley comes up with.
InvaderRamModeratorhere’s a video from the above link. lewis vs georgia.
InvaderRamModeratorhere’s an interview. i’m guessing hoecht jumped at the chance to sign with the rams…
Alex Khvatov: Who is your favorite NFL player?
Michael Hoecht: Hands down, it is Aaron Donald. He has a great combination of strength and speed. If I end up on the Rams, I will soak up all of the information from him.
to have the speed and quickness this guy possesses with that size. definitely going to be looking out for him along with terrell lewis and jonah williams.
InvaderRamModeratora beast. i don’t know his arm length hahaha. but everything else is at or near the top of the charts.
InvaderRamModeratormichael hoecht. another freak.
The six-foot-four, 295-pound defensive tackle ran a blazing 4.65 forty-yard dash on his first attempt and followed that up with a 4.68 on his second attempt. Those times are virtually unprecedented for a player of his size.
The rest of Hoecht’s testing was strong as well with: a 7.05 three-cone; 4.21 shuttle; 33.5-inch vertical; nine-foot, two-inch broad jump; and 23 reps on the bench press.

InvaderRamModeratormore on jonah williams. i found one website which listed his arm length. i have no idea whether this is true. or how to verify it.
http://www.draftscout.com/dsprofile.php?PlayerId=1018582&DraftYear=2020
arm length 34 1/2″ arms 10″ hands.
wow. freak specimen.
he’ll be 25 years old this year. but there are circumstances around this. he was on a missionary trip before starting college. excited to see what happens with him.
InvaderRamModeratorDL Jonah Williams – Weber State 6-5 275 … Pretty sure this was the freak workout guy … with a 4.67 40 and a 6.77 3 cone. I don’t know how you want to address that level of athleticism … but it deserves a lot of attention and consideration before being cut.
this guy. and terrell lewis. are the two prospects with the highest ceiling in this draft. at an important position. if these two can match athleticism with performance. wow. this defense would be something else.
InvaderRamModeratorsounds a little like lamarcus joyner but a little bit bigger.

InvaderRamModeratorBrycen Hopkins worked himself into the TE2 conversation and a Day 2 prospect. Coming into Senior Bowl week, it was clear what Hopkins was not an in-line blocker but he wasn’t taking that lying down, per the Indianapolis Star:
his dad is brad hopkins. surely he can teach his son to block…
InvaderRamModeratordoing a little more research figured out why he might have dropped so much.
https://www.idahostatesman.com/sports/nfl/article242188021.html
he had a late growth spurt after his junior year in high school. and he was on a 3 year missionary trip before he started his college football career. he’ll be 25 years old in august.
InvaderRamModeratorwell with those kind of movement skills. and if he’s got the length.
looking at the video. with that build. he looks like he could play outside linebacker….
i’m intrigued. really. his explosion and speed and agility numbers are off the charts.
4.67 40. a 4.14 short shuttle. and then there’s this from another article. i don’t know if it was posted here.
“He’s a guy that going in people were saying is a draftable guy, but he had the lack of visibility in a pro day, so we’ve done a lot of video stuff to go with his game film and scouts can see a series of situations with his movement,” Stroshine told the Deseret News. “His shuttle was in the 4.2s, three cones in the 6.8s, just phenomenal for a dude that big. It will be interesting to see what happens.”
3-cone in the 6.8s? those numbers are outstanding.
then there’s the 35″ vertical. i’d say maybe even shave off some pounds and gain some more speed and quickness and flexibility? yeah. i could totally see him on the edge.
InvaderRamModerator“When Sean mentioned yesterday trading for Austin Corbett, it was just a couple of years ago that he was the 33rd pick in the draft,” Snead said. “Even this year, we wouldn’t have been able to pick an Austin Corbett. We’ve been adding those players, and fortunately or unfortunately a lot of them got to play last year, with David Edwards and Bobby Evans in particular. They got a chance to play when we were really going to spend a year developing them as backups. We felt confident that if we continued grooming and developing these players, they’d have a chance to become a very solid offensive line.”
well. i still want to see a center. and i’m not sure that person is on this roster right now. maybe corbett?
InvaderRamModeratorAnother player to keep an eye on, again, if those private workouts tell us anything.
Jonah Williams, 6-5, 281, Weber State.
Among Williams’ numbers: 30 reps on the 225-pound bench press, a laser-timed 40-yard dash of 4.67 seconds, a 35 inch vertical leap, a shuttle of 4.14 seconds, and a broad jump of 9 feet, 7 inches.
ooh. but how long are his arms?
InvaderRamModeratortrying to get excited about this pick.
best case scenario he makes an instant impact, and we get to see the mcvay offense we’re used to seeing.
InvaderRamModeratorif he stays healthy…
he ticks every box except production. he’s raw.
but now they got lewis, polite, ogbo, and ebukam. i like it. young with potential.
InvaderRamModeratorBT, I am on board with the Rams taking a back, and I like Akers. They are going to be more “run by committee” or at least have a tandem of 2–an idea which I like. They depend on play action and McVay was very high on Akers. So I just vote differently on this one.
i agree that the rams needed a back. mcvay wants his play action offense clicking.
i just don’t agree with akers. but. i say this without having watched him play outside of some highlights.
mcvay knows what kind of back he wants. and maybe this was also a matter of system fit. and there are circumstances surrounding his mediocre play in college.
he does fumble at an alarming rate. that worries me. maybe he was trying to do too much. i don’t know.
InvaderRamModeratorinteresting.
InvaderRamModeratorVery interesting that they ignored the Oline. Maybe its a good thing. Maybe it means they already have talent. I dunno.
i hope. but i also hope they use today to find some developmental prospects.
InvaderRamModeratorwarming up to this pick. reading all sorts of good things about this guy.
my only disagreement is the position. i feel like oline needed to be addressed. but rams know how to pick defensive backs.
InvaderRamModeratorWe needed to draft a starting CB to play next to Jalen Ramsey. Burgess is a Safety/Nickle CB.
don’t they still have hill? and i really like david long…. or at least the idea of david long. i’m hoping that guy steps up this year.
InvaderRamModeratorscheme fit. i’m guessing a lot of it comes down to that. mcvay knows what kind of running back and receiver he wants. so i’ll trust him on this. but i was a little underwhelmed. my favorite pick is jefferson. he’s like robert woods and cooper kupp. sounds like a versatile receiver. a technician. precise.
they need a center and an offensive tackle. maybe they find them today.
InvaderRamModeratorehhh. we’ll see. not really impressed.
i keep reading about how he played in a poor offense. but this is college. running backs usually produce in college. there are exceptions of course. i hope he’s the exception.
i did read good things about his vision. which is the one thing gurley lacked. great vision.
InvaderRamModeratorprobably my favorite of the rams picks. he’ll be 24 this season. a little old for a rookie.
woulda preferred denzel mims. but jefferson sounds like the more pro ready receiver which is maybe what the rams need.
InvaderRamModeratorboom or bust.
i like his measurables. but he barely played because of injuries. we’ll see.
InvaderRamModeratorYou doing okay, invader?
we’re doing good. wife and the dog are good. thanks for asking.
luckily california hasn’t been hit hard compared to other places. just trying to stay isolated as much as possible. really. we should be ok. i’m not too worried. but beyond just the virus itself, it’s knowing that there will be millions around the world who will suffer. for awhile. physically. but also economically. even mentally.
pain and suffering has existed long before this virus. and it will go on long after this virus… still. it’s heartbreaking.
InvaderRamModeratori like edwards-helaire. a lot.
especially with gurley gone they need a guy who can break plays open. and he could help out in the receiving game as well.
maybe a little high to be picking him there but shoot if that guy isn’t explosive.
InvaderRamModeratorGurley when he had afterburners.
yeah. what a difference. the guy could just pull away from defenders once he got past the line of scrimmage. no more.
