InvaderRamModeratori don’t know much about football, but on one of the vids kellerman mentioned the rams running the shanahan running game. now that’s one thing i forgot about. that this running game will make running backs look good.
i don’t know how well michel’s skill set will mesh with the system. or how different the rams’ system is from the patriots’. but michel is still young. he’s no todd gurley but could he be at least as talented as akers? i don’t know. but he was a first rounder. his agility numbers are solid. this could really work out for the rams i think.
InvaderRamModeratori still like funk a lot. but this trade was necessary. none of the running backs are gonna last a full 17 games.
don’t know if the running game will be dominant. but it should be solid. i feel a lot better than i did 24 hours ago.
InvaderRamModeratori like it. don’t take any chances.
InvaderRamModeratorwell.
no surprise cuts there i don’t think.
InvaderRamModeratorharris looked good (outside of that fumble). i mean. this was only against backup players. but. shoot. a good start. and he’s got hands! and he’s athletic!
i also liked seeing brown and hoecht in there starting on the defensive line. i hope they can both make some kind of contribution. i don’t really know how to evaluate their play. hoping people post stuff on them though.
i’m worried about the oline. i think the late switch in positions is more about how bad evans has been than how good allen has been. but maybe allen will be that good? who knows?

InvaderRamModeratorAnd… bear in mind… only about 10% of his TD passes will come on 50+ yard plays, so we’re looking at 350 – 500 TD passes this year. Of course, the Rams will also score some TDs on the ground, and I expect the defense will have a big year, too.
All-in-all, it’s a spectacle.
I like Stafford, which I’ve said many times. But, as I also said, for many years I used to do the numbers on long passing plays. That’s passes that are long in the air, not including RAC yards.
And. No one has ever done 10%. That’s actually an unthinkable number. I’ve never seen anything even close to it.
As a rule, the numbers go up if you look at passes of 20 yards or more in the air. At 30 yards or more the numbers go way down.
… so you’re saying more like 150-200 tds for the season?
why are you so down on the rams?

InvaderRamModeratorSome would argue that the difference in that mentality is not necessarily that Stafford is right and Goff is wrong. Should all great quarterbacks take that deep ball “99 out of 100 times”? Why 99 and not 100? What happened during that one play where Stafford chose to not throw it deep? If he would do that one time out of 100, could he maybe do it 10 times out of 100? 15? How many of those 100 get intercepted? How many of Goff’s short chucks get the job done plenty well enough?
yeah.
we’ll see. we could just as easily be frustrated by stafford taking too many gambles when a safer check down would have gotten the first down.

InvaderRamModeratorwell. shit.
apparently he injured his surgically repaired thumb today on a helmet.
supposed to not be too bad. but it makes me nervous.
InvaderRamModeratorThe Rams’ two fourth-round rookies, Robert Rochell and Bobby Brown III, will both undergo surgery for injuries suffered Saturday.
shoot. i guess it could have been worse. but still.
looks like at least brown should be back next week.
InvaderRamModeratorTerrell Burgess having a great day today.
if i remember correctly he was starting to come on right before his injury.
Eric Banks and Michael Hoecht are the first two DL out to do extra work pre-practice with assistant DL coach Marcus Dixon and DL coach Eric Henderson. Will be keeping an eye on those two through next couple weeks.
High praise from A’Shawn Robinson for second-year former UDFAs Eric Banks and Michael Hoecht, by the way – says he really has seen them grow and put the work in.
i like both guys but especially hoecht. they have some serious athletes on the dline.
InvaderRamModeratorI think Brown III could have a real shot at competing for rotational minutes, even as a rookie. The Rams believe he can “dominate the line of scrimmage” and in the pre-draft process noted his explosiveness and power, and also his versatility (he has played nose tackle, three-technique and five-technique).
i really like this guy. after akers this was the guy i want to see the most. not because he’s the best. but because his potential is out of this world. seriously. i do not exaggerate. his size coupled with his speed and explosion are rarely seen.
InvaderRamModeratori’m so… annoyed.
mostly i feel really bad for akers. i think he had a chance for a really huge season this year.
InvaderRamModeratorOkay, Gurley makes sense.
Not to replace Akers, but to help. He knows the offense, he’s a good blocker, and a good presence in the locker room, and he’s a free agent. He doesn’t have to be the bell cow. Just make a few blocks, catch a few balls. Makes sense.
would gurley even want to come back?
InvaderRamModeratorNot a good record for RBs with this injury.
yeah. i feel bad for akers. but this might be it for him.
one other running back has to step up. i don’t know much about jones. but funk has the ability. i just don’t know if he can stay healthy. again assuming they’re both healthy i actually think hendo/funk could be quite a formidable duo.
also. i think the tight ends are gonna have to feature more in this offense. but can hopkins or harris step up?
InvaderRamModeratori forgot about jones too. if he or funk can make an impact, then fine. if not, rams are in serious trouble.
July 20, 2021 at 7:23 pm in reply to: Henderson set to EXPLODE following Cam Akers injury – Jake Ellenbogen #131007
InvaderRamModeratorwell. i think jake is being overly optimistic.
i don’t think hendo can carry the load over an entire season. especially now a 17 game season and playoffs (hopefully).
my one hope is that funk can slide into the backup role. my only concern with that guy is his health. but he ticks off all the other boxes – agility, explosion, numbers.
if he can’t, then it’s up to stafford to carry the offense.
InvaderRamModeratorHow do you see the Rams addressing the LT position when Whitworth retires? Do you think Joe Noteboom is the longterm option at LT?
jrodrigue602 Jourdan Rodrigue
I don’t think we have a large enough sample size to determine that, but I do know that Joe is certainly putting in the work to try to get there. It’s also better for the Rams if he is the option, because they won’t have a first-rounder to draft their next franchisethis is my biggest worry.
InvaderRamModeratorHere are the Rams players who made the cut.
77. Greg “The Leg” Zuerlein
25. Dick “Night Train” Lane
9. David “Deacon” Jones
8. Elroy “Crazy Legs” Hirschno love for the rev?
InvaderRamModeratori like it!
InvaderRamModeratori honestly don’t know what to think.
i disagree with the post above saying that stafford had plenty of help. wide receivers and a good defense for one season is not much help. at the same time, could he have been better? i don’t know. honestly, i barely watched the guy play.
i guess we’ll find out soon enough.
InvaderRamModeratorplus his hands are gargantuan.
10 inches.
hahahaha!
InvaderRamModeratorI will seize the obvious and say–intriguing pick.
honestly i find this offensive skill group the most intriguing since mcvay arrived.
not just harris. i thought i read somewhere that stafford liked throwing to his tight ends. so what does that mean not only for harris but for higbee who’s seemed on the cusp of a breakout season the past 2 years?
but i also like the running back corps and the wr corps. i like the depth. they don’t have to rely on any one player like they had to rely on gurley.
can’t wait.

InvaderRamModeratori wonder/hope he can have a faulk like effect on this offense.
InvaderRamModeratorDon’t forget about Darrell Henderson! Last season Henderson showcased that he can be an explosive runner with an ability to move the chains. When his number was called upon he was very consistent and productive. Excited to see him back with the team in 2021
feel really good about the running game. not just akers and henderson. but funk too.
InvaderRamModeratori want to see stafford play for the rams over the next 8 years. not 3-4 years. 8 years.
and i want to see a passer rating over 100.
otherwise what was the point?
InvaderRamModerator“Really just having the playmaker skill ability with the other wide receivers, the other running backs, tight ends. With a quarterback like Matthew Stafford, it’s really mind-boggling for other defenses or defensive coordinators to be sitting back, like, ‘Man, how we going to stop these dudes?’ For me, I’ve been on some pretty good receiving corps, but Robert and Coop, in addition to Van and Tutu, it’s going to be scary,” he said on “NFL Total Access.”
i just hope the oline is solid. i think it should be.
InvaderRamModeratorBecause Donald is on the roster, Brown won’t ultimately be asked to play outside of those maximized traits, which could hinder or even ruin long-term development.
i hope not. because i think brown’s ceiling is way above that. i understand with a guy like sjd. but brown’s potential is so high.
InvaderRamModeratori love brockers and i’m sad to see him go, but i wonder if this front seven could be even better. a motivated and slimmer robinson and a young athletically freaky 20 year old. i’m just really excited to see the dline. but also a guy like ernest jones who doesn’t look spectacular on paper but it’s about everything that’s above the shoulders with him. i think he could really stabilize the inside of that front seven.
i don’t know who takes that other outside linebacker spot. maybe okoronkwo? who knows but i think morris does have some potential to select from. there’s a lot of talent. maybe even a jonah williams could emerge as a dark horse.
either way it’s exciting.
InvaderRamModeratorthere’s lots of things to like about this draft.
and i can honestly say that these three fellas were my favorites. i like earnest brown and funk too. but those three really got me dreaming.
InvaderRamModeratorEspecially starting in the fourth round this draft, the Rams focused on prospects with hyper-athletic traits and measurables
all three have super athletic traits. rochell too.
