Les Snead has $7M of cap to work with

and i’m assuming they’ll have even more space if they extend donald?

i think i’d rather have mathieu.  younger and more versatile.  much like ramsey, i could see him fill multiple roles for the secondary.  someone correct me if i’m wrong, but i’m not sure gilmore could offer that.

thinking about it.  i wouldn’t do this deal.  if it’s even true.

he’s 31.  will turn 32 this season.  which is typically when cornerbacks drop off.  safeties can play at this age.  but not cornerbacks.

i’m pretty sure jalen ramsey would be making his voice heard to rams front office.

The Los Angeles Rams star lumped himself in the top five and named the other four players in the group with him during an appearance on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast.

“This is tough, too, because I’ve got a lot of respect for a lot of DBs because it ain’t really me against them. It’s me against the receiver, so I’ve got a lot of respect for them,” he said. “Everybody’s got their different styles so my top five, off my opinion and my style – like, who I like to watch and even who I would like to team up with if I had the chance: Stephon Gilmore, I like his style. Tre’Davious White, Buffalo Bills. I’ll go Xavien Howard. And I’ll go Jaire Alexander, Green Bay.”

if he recruited him last year, why wouldn’t he at least attempt to recruit him this year…

John Randle played for 14 seasons. Sapp played for 13 seasons. Alan Page played for 15 seasons. Steve McMichael, the great DT on the old 85 Chicago defense, played for 15 seasons. Randy White played for 14 seasons. 2022 will be Donald’s 9th season. So 4 or 5 more years sounds possible.

i agree.  the only question is if he actually wants to.  or if he wants to leave early.

it doesn’t sound like he wants to leave early.  he says that he thought the feeling would go away.  but it sounds like that desire might actually be even stronger than it was before…

jourdan rodrigue put out a tweet that said he and jalen ramsey were heavily involved in recruiting wags the second he was released by the seahawks…  wags was released March 9 2022.  von miller signed with the bills March 16 2022…

hmmm…  was the plan all along to sign both miller and wags??  or maybe as soon as they found out miller wasn’t coming back donald and ramsey started working on wagner.

either way it doesn’t really matter.  it sounds like donald is very much engaged with this team.  not just for this upcoming season.  but even a couple seasons beyond that perhaps.

donald is pretty much in his prime.  not that far off.  i looked at wagner and it’s very possible that he could have near-prime years for at least another 3 years.  and the guy probably takes care of himself like few in the nfl do.  he strikes me as a pro’s pro.  much like aaron donald.  if my hunch is right about that, he could very easily have a couple more first or second team all pros in him.  especially playing behind aaron donald.  and ramsey is right in the middle of his prime years.

i think you could get prime donald, prime wags, and prime ramsey together for maybe 2 seasons – 3 if you wanna be REALLY optimistic.

    very very excited.

Aaron Donald says he’s hungry to win another ring and is getting better with age

    Cameron DaSilva
    April 4, 2022 10:47 am PT

All signs point toward Aaron Donald coming back to the Rams in 2022, despite Los Angeles losing Von Miller and having yet to re-sign Odell Beckham Jr. He hasn’t publicly announced it yet, but Sean McVay said Donald told the Rams he intends to play again next season after weighing retirement earlier this offseason.

What will assure that Donald is still on the field in 2022 is a contract extension, which the Rams are working on right now. They’re seeking to reward him for the dominance he’s displayed since signing a six-year, $135 million deal in 2018, which he’ll happily welcome.

While on the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast, Donald said he’s had conversations with the Rams, confirming what Sean McVay and Les Snead have said. And while he initially thought he’d want to be done playing football after Super Bowl LVI, he still feels hungry to win another ring.

“I had conversations with the Rams. We talked,” he said. “(If) we bring the guys back – certain guys back – and we got a real shot to repeat and really win another Super Bowl, why not come back and play? That’s all it’s about. I experienced this and it’s like, I thought I’d want to be done, but I got addicted to it. It’s like, I ain’t satisfied. I want to get it one more time. We gonna see after we get this second one. That’s what we’re gonna do. But I’m hungry to try to get another one, for sure. I can’t lie about that.”

Donald said he and the Rams are in a good spot negotiation-wise right now and that he’s talked to McVay, Stan Kroenke, Kevin Demoff and Tony Pastoors, among other veterans within the organization.

He sounds optimistic that a deal will get done.

“We in good talks right now,” he said. “I got a lot of love with the Rams and the organization. I had some conversations with Mr. Kroenke, the owner, with Sean (McVay), with (Kevin) Demoff, with Tony (Pastoors), with some of the other veteran guys around. So just looking like we can be back, so we’re good. We’re good.”

Donald turned 30 last year but he showed absolutely no signs of slowing down. He had 12.5 sacks, 25 QB hits and a career-high 84 tackles, earning his seventh consecutive All-Pro selection and eighth Pro Bowl nod.

Aside from some added aches and pains, Donald doesn’t feel like he’s slowing down at all. If anything, he thinks he’s still getting faster and is in better shape now than he was in years past.

It sure doesn’t sound like someone who’s going to retire at the age of 30.

“I was just with my guy on Wednesday training, and I always ask him after I work out, I say, ‘Whatchu think?’ He texted me back, like, ‘You got about three, five more years with how you’re moving.’ I feel good. I really do feel good,” Donald said. “I feel quick, I feel explosive, so I don’t feel like I’m slowing down. If anything, I feel like I’m getting faster. I feel like I’m in better shape. I keep telling people, I get better with age. I don’t slow down. I just feel like I’m getting that much stronger. I look better with age and all that.”

Donald’s latest workout video confirms that he is still fast despite it only being April. He looks like he’s in midseason form already.

and that niners defensive back who inexplicably spears obj while he’s on the ground.

i mean i’ll take it.  but the rams got some breaks.  the niners were beating the rams up that game.

well against the niners he threw what absolutely should have been an interception.  if that niners defensive player catches that ball, this offseason would be very different.

and they had to come from behind to beat the niners in the nfc championship game.

and also they got a little lucky when that niners player dropped an interception that fell right into his lap almost.

Stu Jackson@StuJRams Rams GM Les Snead said he sat with head coach Sean McVay, defensive coordinator Raheem Morris and the rest of the defensive staff to figure out schematically how they could use both Ernest Jones and Bobby Wagner.

i hear a lot of talk about how the rams can’t keep both jones and wags on the field together because the system doesn’t allow for it.  i don’t buy it.

if jones is who they think he is, both will be playing a lot of snaps.  and it wasn’t like rapp was lighting it up anyway.

if jones isn’t, then wags plays the majority of snaps and they play a scheme similar to what they have in year’s past.  but they’ll have a hall of fame caliber talent manning that position unlike in year’s past.

If it means anything at all, it means that the Rams take the 49ers seriously.

yeah.  even though the rams won a super bowl on a great pass rush, they struggled against teams like the niners and titans.  and they had to come from behind to beat the niners in the nfc championship game.

still hope they can find that edge rusher though.

i don’t think the defense will necessarily be worse. but i just remember seeing that pass rush go off in the playoffs. and how effective it was.

but it was also vulnerable to certain types of teams. and i don’t think that will be a problem next year with wags back there.

and i still think the rams could find another pass rusher. i think hollins could be that guy. garrett. a draft pick. if they can find that guy the defense should be real good.

i’m in the miller group too.  him leaving just sucked.  it really sucked.  bad.  i’d rather have the unstoppable pass rush.

but i don’t know about clowney.  i’d rather go wags and then see if garrett or hollins develop.  it’s a deep class for edge.  it’s almost a consensus that edge is the deepest position this draft.  so draft another guy and see who emerges.

but yeah.  if i had my choice, ida preferred the rams bring miller back.

As long as they remain healthy, I think the Rams might be better this season than last.  The Bucs haven’t beaten the Rams since Brady’s been there.  What has changed this year to make them better than the Rams? I think the Vikings might be better than the Cards now that they have a good offensive coach in O’Connell.  Lots of talent on that offense.  I’m not sure the Packers are that good anymore.  They have no one at receiver.  I could see them finishing behind the Vikings.

i gotta say that i’m a little worried about the rams offense.  oline will be significantly different.

there might be a slight improvement in the skill positions with allen robinson.  might be.  and even then it won’t matter if the oline isn’t right.

and in coaching there’ll be significant change.  i’m actually a little optimistic there, but it’s still a question mark.

I think their biggest need now is CB and secondary depth.

someone at the herd said that this draft was deep at defensive back and edge rusher.

fits in perfectly with what the rams need.

I honestly think BW makes this defense something fairly different from what most of us expected. (A good version of different.) It may be that they have to scheme up a pass rush and blitz more than we’re used to.

    yeah.  i agree.

and if they can find a legit stud pass rusher (easy of course right?  haha), this defense would be spectacular.  like all-time i’m thinking…  if they can find a legit stud pass rusher to pair with donald.

    geez.

there’s stafford on one end.  and then there’s goff…  all the way on the other end…

The juxtaposition of Stafford and Goff does catch the eye, doesn’t it?

Direct upfront money in bonuses means cash flow. Yes ultimately the cap comes out of league and team earned revenue, but bonuses mean that the cash has to be there now.

i was watching keyshawn talk about this.  i was trying to find the video, but i have no idea where it is.

you got billionaire owners.  and then you’ve got billionaire owners who are liquid.  meaning they can just drop cash at the drop of a hat whereas others have a lot of their money tied up in different things.  so while the cap is hard.  there are ways to manipulate it if you have the buying power.  of course.  in the end you will be in cap hell for awhile.

but they probably figure they have only so many years of aaron donald.  so many years of matt stafford.  and mcvay probably takes a break at some point.  so at that point it may not really matter.

ok. i’ve seen wags described as the greatest linebacker since ray lewis.

so i decided to see how ray lewis performed in his age 32 to age 36 seasons which are the years wags will be playing out with the rams. assuming he plays the entirety of the contract. obviously anything can happen and wags could decline sooner than we hope.

but it is possible for him to be very productive. and i gotta believe that this guy takes care of himself. also lewis’ age 32-36 seasons were actually his 12th through 16th seasons in the nfl. wags’ will be in his 11th through 15th seasons.

in that five year span, lewis made the pro bowl all five seasons. he was first team all pro twice and second team all pro once.

not bad. if wags takes care of his body and still has the hunger to go along with the vast amount of experience he’s accumulated over those ten years. and with a little bit of luck i think three more years is doable.

he’ll be playing alongside donald who is probably still near his prime years or not too far off. lewis during those years was playing behind a young haloti ngata who was regularly making first and second team all pro during those years. suggs was a very young 25 and just coming into his own (he won dpoy at the very end of that stretch – 2011). and of course ed reed who was right in the middle of his prime years.

ramsey is right in the middle of his prime years. he’s made first team all pro the last two seasons and i see no reason why he wouldn’t continue to be his dominant self for at least a couple more years.

it’d still be helpful obviously if the rams had more edge talent. i like floyd, but i don’t consider him the caliber of a terrell suggs. maybe they make a trade for hunter. hahaha.

seriously though. if they can find an edge rusher either from within or through the draft or maybe even sign someone like clowney, wags and this defense could be something else.

an aside note ed reed, ray lewis, and terrell suggs have four defensive player of the year awards between them. crazy. of course donald has three himself. ha!

The way Eisen talked about the Rams, I don’t remember them ever being talked about that way in previous decades. Not even the GSOT. The league was awestruck with the GSOT, but this is different. It’s like “the Rams are in the news so we will of course now enthusiastically talk about the really smart things they did this week. You know like they did last week.” With Eisen, it’s not just Wagner and Donald that get mentioned but Snead too. It’s like “and the Rams did another smart and good thing. Of course.”

part of me wonders if this is all a push for the rams to succeed in the los angeles market.  i mean the nfl really wants the rams to succeed in la.

Higbee is at least as valuable as Ernie Conwell was.

i’d say he’s more valuable. and given different circumstances he could be putting up more of the sexy stats that other higher profile tight ends do.

and mcvay has a history with that position going back to washington.

actually.  one guy i completely forgot about.  justin hollins.

he’s only 26.  with wags here they don’t need him at inside backer.  he can fully commit to playing edge.  he’ll be playing for a contract.  and he’s seen what edge rushers get playing on the same defense as ad.

not only that.  he now has the luxury of playing next to another hall of famer in wags.

could he be the sleeper that emerges in 2022?

I think it will be Scott and Fuller. And that’s a promising combo.

well on scott i’ll believe it when i see it. he did make some plays. played well in the playoffs. but he only started one regular season game in his entire career.

could happen. wouldn’t count on it.

If he never had problems with his knee, he could’ve been a top 3 RB in NFL History

he needed four more seasons.  but yeah.  his numbers were ridiculous for 2 seasons until his age 25 season.  i don’t know about top 3.  but hall of fame?  yes.

well.  one edge rusher short of an elite front seven.

when i think of bobby wagner i think of eric weddle.  only he’ll come in younger and fitter.

they couldn’t sign the honey badger could they?  seriously though.  i think defensive back and edge come through the draft.  then again.  these are the mcsnead rams.  anything can happen.

    Not a tweet, but a vid.  Sillyness but its bout the rams;

i agree that obj was on his way to winning super bowl mvp.

but i wanna pose this question…

how would obj have done if kupp was injured in that game?  with van not playing particularly well.  and hopkins having to fill in at tight end.  we know how kupp would do with his teammates dropping all around him.
