InvaderRamModerator
i don’t buy it.
InvaderRamModeratorsnead seems a tad impulsive…
sometimes it works. and sometimes it goes bad.
InvaderRamModeratoroffensive tackle blake freeland. i’ve seen him anywhere from a low first round pick to third round. had a good combine.
6’8″ 302 pounds
33 7/8″ arms 10″ hands
4.98 40
37″ vert
10″ broad
good length. not freakish but good. good size. rams really need a left tackle… maybe he’d be available in the second round? his vert is pretty insane. so is his broad. maybe now a late first rounder?
InvaderRamModeratoranother edge for ya bt! i don’t think he’ll be available for the rams though…
lukas van ness
6’5″ 272 pounds
34″ arms 11″ hands
4.58 40
31″ vert
9’10” broad
7.02 3-cone
4.32 short shuttle
good athlete. freakish length. produced in college. i see him consistently in top 15 on most lists. but he could get pushed down? anyone at edge or de would please me.
Industry wide projections have NXG alum & Iowa @HawkeyeFootball Edge Lukas Van Ness @lukas_vanness (Barrington HS-IL) as a mid First Round Draft choice 🔽🔽🔥💯🎥 https://t.co/1RpiFX3VY8

There has some been chatter around #Iowa Edge Lukas Van Ness going in the 1st & I’m For it.
6’5 264lb – 7 sacks in 2022.
High motor/Power edge typeLukas vs projected 1st rounders:
Paris Johnson & Peter Skoronski 👀Straight up pancakes Skoronski!!!

InvaderRamModeratoroline.
broderick jones tested well today.
6’5″ 311 pounds
34 3/4″ arms and 10 5/8″ hands
4.97 40
30″ vert
9′ broad
only two years starting experience at left tackle. i’ve seen him projected 1st or second round. after today’s combine he might have shot himself up to the top half of the draft. if the rams acquire a first rounder, i would hope he’d be available. tackle is a big need.

InvaderRamModeratorRams need Edge, first and foremost. Probably two of them. But if they trade Ramsey, that pushes CB up there as well. They should be able to net a 1st rounder for Ramsey, so that could go for the best Edge available. With #36, I’d take Banks, if he’s there.
i would take bpa at front seven, oline, or defensive back. i think all three are needs if ramsey is traded.
in the second, i’m hoping like hell that washington is around. he’s not the biggest need, but he’s such a freak athlete. and in this case, i think it’d be worse the risk. i think his potential as a receiver will be huge.
InvaderRamModeratorSome guys I was impressed with, Nolan Smith, DJ Turner, Keondre Coburn, Siaki Ika, & Owen Pappoe.Even though neither are not at the combine, but I do like, that is Brayden Willis TE Oklahoma & Davis Allen TE Clemson. They are considered late 5th – late 6th round picks.what i really want to see is how the olinemen test. i’m guessing it’s tomorrow?
oline, defensive back, edge rusher, tight end. i think these are the rams’ biggest needs.
InvaderRamModeratortoo many positions and too many players to watch, so i’m just going after certain positions.
tight ends.
there’s some athletes to be got here. i hope the rams get one.
first on my list is darnell washington.
6’7″ 264 pounds.
11″ hands and 34 3/8″ arms.
4.64 40
31″ vert
10’2″ broad
4.08 short shuttle
didn’t catch much in college, but i’ve read his potential there is high. primarily a blocker which i love. should be available in the second? i don’t know. i’m not much of a draft expert.
shoot. looking at his size, i’d almost be tempted to convert him into an offensive tackle.
i also like payne durham. another blocking tight end from what i understand.
6’6″ 253 pounds
9 3/4″ hands and 33 3/8″ arms.
4.87 40
34.5″ vert
9’9″ broad
there’s a third. zack kuntz. freak athlete.
6’7″ 255 pounds
10 1/4″ hands and 34″ arms
4.55 40
40″ vert
10’8″ broad
6.87 3-cone
4.12 short shuttle
holy smokes. what an athlete. but he sounds like more an athlete than football players. so i’m a little wary.
if i had my preference they’d pick darnell washington. he might not last until their second round pick at this rate. but i’d pick him there if he’s available. i just refreshed his combine page and he ran a 4.08 second short shuttle!!! he’d impact the passing game and the running game. shoot.
edit. forget it. he’s a first rounder.
Darnell Washington pushing the sled then other TEs for reference. 😳
Some GM is gonna get an extra OL who is also fast and can catch. pic.twitter.com/lIU20evvxV

InvaderRamModeratorYeah. Special athlete. Also not sure why he isn’t get a comp with Donald, instead of Kancey. Adebawore has height and weight nearly identical to Donald. Though neither Kancey or Adebawore are cut like him. Kancey, especially, looks a bit out of shape to me. Which, I guess, makes his 40 even crazier. I like Maryland’s CB too, Deonte Banks. Ran a 4.35, 42 vert, and 11.4 broad. Maryland’s other corner, Jakorian Bennett, was even faster, at 4.31. Also like Will McDonald for Edge. I really hope the Rams shift gears a bit and go for special athletes (“freaks”), and don’t shy away from younger players. They need to get faster, younger, and more athletic, in my view.
multiple corners are testing well right now. exciting. although maybe that diminishes ramsey’s trade value. which i hope would deter the rams from trading him…
more on adebawore. they had him doing linebacker drills and reports are that he looked good there. that has me really excited. he could play dline. but also has the length, speed, quickness, and explosion to play off the edge. but again. this most likely means he moves up the draft.
i agree. the rams have to take some risks here. they looked old and slow this year.
InvaderRamModeratorright now adebawore is projected as a day 2 pick. i can’t see how he doesn’t move up the boards.
but if the rams do indeed trade ramsey. well. i think you’d have to consider him if he’s available.
InvaderRamModeratorrams hire joe coniglio for olb coach. former roommate of mcvay at miami.
InvaderRamModeratori don’t either.
InvaderRamModeratorwell. just to be contrarian i’m not sure woods would have made much of a difference in place of robinson besides health. woods played the whole season while robinson missed almost half the season. but i’m not sure if a healthy robinson or woods saves last season.
projected over a full season woods and robinson had pretty similar seasons. that is to say average to below average.
rams need a healthy kupp and obj next season. maybe add a tight end or another running back. and shore up the oline.
it’s not looking so great right now.
InvaderRamModeratortwo more defensive coaching hires.
aubrey pleasant and jimmy lake.
InvaderRamModeratorwould the broncos let the rams hire eviro away?
edit. nevermind. just saw that the broncos let him go.
InvaderRamModeratorCornell@gqscholar I would rather have a tight end, in the mold of Andrew’s, Kittle, or Kelce, over a pure wr. Higbee is 30 and struggles to stay healthy. A TE, in the mold of Kelce, Andrews and Kittle, can line up as a wr and a TE.
this. and i thought i read somewhere that this is a good tight end class.
or maybe go after a gesicki in free agency.

InvaderRamModerator1. Edge Rusher: Also toughest position to stack bc there is so much talent (and different kinds of talents). EDGE will stretch into day 3.
2. Cornerback: Underclassmen really helped. Deep group.
3. Tight End: I have 5 TEs in my top-50 and a few others in the top-100. Loaded!
edge rusher or corner it is then!

InvaderRamModeratorI dunno if they can upgrade, but Kupp needs some help.
well there’s obj and juju. but i think gesicki could be an exceptional receiving te. not a traditional wr but maybe could take attention away from kupp.
InvaderRamModeratorjust a random thought. hope the rams could sign mike gesicki. athletic freak. they could use him more like a receiver in their 3 wr sets. don’t know how they’d make it work cap wise or even if his skill set would fit in this offense. but i just feel there’s so much potential there still.
InvaderRamModeratori’d go edge rusher or dline with that first pick. ideally. if no one worthy is available at that pick i’d maybe go secondary? or oline.
InvaderRamModeratori didn’t know him personally but a good guy and fun times with him on the gameday chat.
he also gave me a recipe for biscuits and sausage gravy, so i loved seeing the comment about his love for cooking.
InvaderRamModeratordo we have any idea what happened?
January 14, 2023 at 12:30 pm in reply to: starting a new thread w/ BT’s post on a Rodrigue podcast #142583InvaderRamModeratorBut then Stafford was a better fit for McV. Stafford walked into the room demanding respect with his veteran smarts and longevity, so it was more of a case of coach and veteran qb collaborating than an impatient coach handling a young qb.
partially true. i’m not saying i disagree with that. but i think other things also played a part.
mcvay i think had committed to a 3 wr approach at that point with gurley declining. i don’t think it’s a coincidence that goff’s resurgence has coincided with a resurgence in the lions’ running game.
i do think that mcvay could eventually be that patient head coach. well. at least a more patient version compared to his 30 year old self. i think his perspective changes dramatically when he is say 50 years old compared to a couple years ago. or at least it’ll have to or i don’t think he lasts.
it’s kind of useless to argue because mcvay back then was obviously incapable of having the kind of relationship with goff where goff could keep growing as a qb. it could have just been personality. it could have been the age difference or mcvay’s immaturity. or maybe mcvay just needing to realize that deficiency in himself and having a qb coach. maybe mcvay needs his right hand man. like tony larussa had his dave duncan. but that’s also part of growing as a leader. cuz you hope mcvay wouldn’t make the same mistake at 50 years old that he did when he was 34.
January 14, 2023 at 9:23 am in reply to: starting a new thread w/ BT’s post on a Rodrigue podcast #142577InvaderRamModeratorOf course, Akers himself gets a ton of credit too. So, perhaps it’s mostly Brown, followed by Akers, with a big assist by McVay for recognizing his mistake. A bit too late in the season to matter, but it bodes well for 2023.
yes. for sure akers deserves most of the credit. but when goff was traded i seem to remember mcvay saying something to the effect of not talking through or recognizing the problem early on? or maybe some lack of communication? i can’t remember. but i’m hoping there was some shift with the akers situation. or maybe it was brown. either way akers wasn’t traded and he had a resurgence.
i feel the one big mistake mcvay may have made was trading goff. that’s weird to say given what stafford has done and the superbowl. but i do think they could have accomplished a lot of things together. who knows what would have happened?
and if akers has been traded who knows what would have happened? but he did stay and he looked like a different man after that. of course. again. akers deserves most of the credit. but if mcvay and goff had somehow hashed things out preventing a trade to the lions. how would goff have responded the following season? we’ll never know.
January 14, 2023 at 6:56 am in reply to: starting a new thread w/ BT’s post on a Rodrigue podcast #142573InvaderRamModeratori wonder what happened with akers. she does allude to it a little bit according to that summary you provided. but i wonder what specifically mcvay’s role in it it was. and if mcvay was able to glean anything from his past relationship with goff when dealing with the akers situation.
i’m glad that mcvay is at least recognizing or at least seeming to recognize his deficiencies. it at least gives me hope that he’ll better manage himself going forward. help him manage his relationships. maybe even enough to last beyond 2023? he’s potentially the best thing to happen to this franchise since i’ve been following him. but only if he can bring the rams back a second time. i think it’s possible.
InvaderRamModeratori’m sure he’s reached out already, but he has to talk to former head coaches and figure out how to find a balance so he doesn’t keep draining himself like this.
a hard ask for sure. maybe he has to delegate better. i don’t know. or maybe he eventually will have to take that sabbatical.
InvaderRamModeratordude needs to have a talk with dick vermeil. and they need to hire an experienced oc to take some more off mcvay’s plate.
