InvaderRamModeratorPlus as you said he inherited 3 key players. At least 3.
oh yeah. i forgot. he also signed in 2012 the greatest punter the world has ever known. johnny hekker.
InvaderRamModeratori know people are taking the opportunity to bash fisher now that the rams offense looks competent.
but i gotta give credit. assuming this goff isn’t just a mirage. and assuming gurley really is back. fisher is responsible for drafting this team’s franchise quarterback, a franchise running back capable of carrying a full load, possibly the best defensive player in the league…
i think firing him was most likely the right move, but i don’t have animosity toward him.
InvaderRamModeratorfootball outsiders actually ranks la over dallas in overall team efficiency. unbelievably la actually ranks third behind only kansas city and pittsburgh. i don’t know that i buy that but that’s what they come up with.
additionally they rank la ahead of dallas both offensively and defensively. overall team efficiency is calculated using both those stats.
take that for what it’s worth.

InvaderRamModeratorthat was good stuff. it wasn’t about injustice. it was about a bully trying to bully a bully.
InvaderRamModeratorAs he tends to do, Goff buffers in the pocket. His processing speed doesn’t allow him to recognize his opportunity to release the ball. Doing this against a five-man rush should result in a sack. But Goff’s line holds up so he has time to go through his progression, miss all the receivers, then drop backwards. Everything about this play to that point is bad for the quarterback.
well i’m hoping this is just a matter of getting reps.
and the processing speed should get quicker.
InvaderRamModeratorfor what it’s worth football outsiders ranks the rams defense 8th in dvoa.
against the niners a significant amount of those points were directly tied to turnovers.
and rams defenders are still getting used to playing with each other in this system. maybe they can get it figured out by sunday?
InvaderRamModeratorwith sean mcvay as washington’s offensive coordinator, they went a combined 1-3 from 2015 to 2016 against dallas. he’s gotta be very familiar with that team although i don’t know how much their defensive personnel has changed.
cousins did well. he had a passer rating over 100 in 3 of the 4 games.
InvaderRamModeratori think of those alex smith is the best comp. young qb with 3 years experience in college. coming from a spread system. very raw.
he had an 85% increase from year 1 to year 2. don’t think it’ll be quite that high but it could be significant.
InvaderRamModeratorThis year, to me, is about a talented qb getting seasoning and experience and maturing. I won’t take the highs as exclusive evidence of where he’s at any more than I will take any lows as “final evidence” of anything. I won’t be disappointed by 8-8 or proclaim that he is a mature veteran qb if they go 9-7. So while Goff HAS shown he has a tremendous amount of raw talent, this is still year 2 of a qb who started out far greener than most. Given all that if he ends up with more TDs than INTs and a qb rating in the 90s that will be better than anyone expected before the season. And frankly I think that’s what will happen.
i think i’m kinda thinking the same thing.
i’m not too concerned with the outcome of the game itself. i think the defense is what it is. the cowboys offense will be too much. i think the defense is going to need a bit of an overhaul next offseason.
i’m more interested in seeing how goff does this game as well as going forward. we should have a pretty good idea where goff is by the bye week. that should be a large enough sample size, so the next four games will be telling.
and then that’s where it gets even more interesting. goff will hopefully continue to play out the last nine games and get much needed experience. defenses will adjust and he’ll have to adjust to them. but also most important is that he’ll go into his second offseason with mcvay and first full offseason as well with some of his teammates such as (hopefully!) sammy watkins as well as the rookies. i expect big strides to be made then. as he’ll have one season under his belt in the new system and will have a list of things that he and his teammates can really focus in on and improve.

InvaderRamModeratorthey played washington at home. they’re going to dallas to play the cowboys. they beat 2 sorry teams. they lost to a good team.
i’m curious to see how much they’ve learned.
also. they have to learn to take care of the ball.
InvaderRamModeratori wasn’t totally paying attention, but it seemed like they got most of their pressure later in the game when arizona pretty much gave up running the ball. and it was still a close game at that point. it just wasn’t going anywhere. and at least a couple of the sacks. i think they were doing it with a 3 man rush.
dallas right now is ranked second in sacks.
InvaderRamModeratordallas was getting a lot of pressure on palmer.
big test for the oline. big test for goff.
hopefully, the rams can run the ball effectively.
InvaderRamModeratorarizona defense just broke. wow. rams are gonna have a tough time stopping this offense.
InvaderRamModeratorlarry fitzgerald lights out. his 11th reception was unbelievable.
InvaderRamModeratorarizona looks good. i thought they were in trouble without johnson. defense doing a good job on dallas so far.
InvaderRamModeratori don’t know if this has been posted before but remember when fisher said part of the reason they drafted goff was how good he was in the red zone?
so far this season his rating is 137.3 (which oddly enough is second to CASE KEENUM!!!).
combine that with gurley’s nose for the red zone and rams should be very difficult to stop inside the 20.
InvaderRamModeratoreither way i hope they wear each other the crap out.
no serious injuries but i hope they’re both just exhausted at the end. let arizona soften them up for the rams.
Define “serious injury.”
Would a high ankle sprain for Prescott be a problem?
no that’s fine. just nothing involving the brain or that would require major surgery.

InvaderRamModeratori’m stating what probably everyone feels, but i hope that things work out with sammy. and they can sign him long-term.
just having gurley and watkins around along with woods, kupp, and everett so they can grow together with goff will be invaluable. then they can focus on the oline over the next few years namely grooming a replacement for whitworth who i hope has three years left in him.
InvaderRamModeratorso then what’s the problem? is it the linebackers? i’m really wishing right now that the veterans had played a little more during the preseason to iron this out.
InvaderRamModeratorethan has to be more careful or he’ll be filling out an application for toys r us real soon.
InvaderRamModeratoreither way i hope they wear each other the crap out.
no serious injuries but i hope they’re both just exhausted at the end. let arizona soften them up for the rams.
InvaderRamModeratorhe’s also third in passer rating and fourth in total qbr.
so far so good but these next four weeks will tell us more.

InvaderRamModeratorHe made it into a big deal because he knew the players would react this way. He’s fanning the flames to whip his supporters into a fervor. He wants the country divided.
Growing the ‘us vs them’ dichotomy is his political strategy. It’s how he’ll get re-elected.
this. i fully believe this is his true intention.

InvaderRamModeratorhey. even the colts won.
InvaderRamModeratori will say this. to my untrained eye he is ahead of where sam bradford was when he was where goff is at.
his pocket presence his ability to see the field seems better than where bradford was in year 2. but it’s hard for me to say for sure because they’re in 2 completely different situations.
in terms of arm talent i think it’s no question that he has more talent than any ram i’ve seen which goes back 22 years.
the only questions for me are his ability to process information. defenses are going to start getting a book on him. they’ll look for weaknesses. how does he respond to that? will he be able to recognize what they’re trying to do to him and make adjustments? and what of his leadership abilities. i actually am not too worried about him. the sense i got of him at cal was that he was an exceptional leader. i know he wasn’t voted captain, but this is a league where you have to prove yourself. i think the veterans were wary of him, but depending on what he shows them this year, i have no doubts that they will rally around him. i think next offseason he’ll also really get a chance to bond with his receivers. that trust and bond will grow even stronger.
another question i have is his ability to deliver when the rams really need him to make a big play. not toughness. i actually think he’s about as tough as they come. but what of his nerves when the rams need him to make plays?
the last question is longevity. that’s something that won’t be answered for a long long time. you just never know. this game will grind people down to nothing. we’ll just have to hope he’s lucky and that the rams continue to put the right people around him.
i do admit though. i may have underestimated this guy. can’t say for sure. i’ll have to reevaluate at the end of the 2018 season. but i’m encouraged by the fact that as good as he’s played so far i still don’t think it’s even really all clicked for him yet. i think a lot of what he’s doing right now is based purely on his natural throwing ability and instincts.
InvaderRamModeratorand just imagine next offseason when they’ll have more time to work together, develop chemistry, and learn the offense. goff has had that with woods and kupp and everett.
but not really with watkins… i hear a lot of comparisons to desean, but i think sammy has the ability and potential to be a much more complete receiver than desean.
next year i can see goff and the receivers getting together and having their own informal minicamps. that’s when things could really take off.

InvaderRamModeratorand they’re all young 25 or younger.
they got a chance to really grow together.
InvaderRamModeratora little bit of a flashback to 2016. football outsiders had ranked goff the 9th best qb prospect at the time since 1999 – going back almost 20 years. they based it on a tool called qbase.
he ranked among prospects such as roethlisberger and rodgers. and i believe their qbase tool accurately predicted russell wilson would be a good qb.
so at least one analytics tool predicted stardom for jared.
InvaderRamModeratoropi. dpi. roughing the passer. could be left to interpretation.
a clock running down to zero can’t.
