ParticipantAt least we didn’t have to give them a pick to clear the cap space.
Core locker room guy. He’s been with the team a good long while.
Good player, but not exceptional. I think his snaps are replaceable without losing much.
Hram
Participant“I can’t let him down.”
That’s telling.

ParticipantEven after we lose a couple folks, defense has enough players to be top 10 IMO. Could be better with Donald and Ramsey, but, barring injury, should be top 10.
It all depends on the Oline IMO. If Oline is average or better, Stafford will adapt pretty darn quick and we should be legit challengers. If Oline is worse than average, might be another fight for a wild card.
Hram
ParticipantCould be.
They do need the salary cap relief. If they could get a day two pick, even better.
Hram
ParticipantI’m not ready to commit until I see what they can retain and/or add.
I’m guessing we’ll see a top 7-10 QB with top 5 stats due to the offense he is in.
If the defense is still top 5 and they don’t suffer a rash of injuries, 12-4.

ParticipantI think there is zero chance the Chargers would’ve given up Herbert for what we gave Detroit. I’m not sure the Chargers would do that trade for four first round draft picks.
If we get five good years out of what many considered to be a top 10-ish quarterback, then it is worth that draft capital. It will be interesting to see the length of the extension they gift stafford.
Hram
ParticipantIt’s a dilemma.
The younguns should get incrementally better with another year. Sounds like whit is coming back for another year which helps. Akers should be better in his second year which also helps.
It’s strange to me that in several of these videos reference the QBs, folks talk about how the Rams Oline is better and I get the impression the consensus is, at worst, middle of the pack in the NFL. I thought we gave up way too much pressure up the middle and they did not play THAT well, but maybe I’m wrong. Maybe all they need is a little incremental improvement to be…good.

ParticipantThey may keep trading them away!
Hram
ParticipantWe’ll just agree to disagree!
I think it probable Goff stopped progressing. I also think it most likely Goff had a better team around him than Stafford.
It will be an interesting experiment to see how they do in each other’s shoes next year.
Hram
ParticipantIt’s an NBA salary dump move while upgrading the actual players be swapped.
Goff is an average QB. Stanford may just be this decades equivalent of Archie Manning. Now McVay has a QB he scouted that he believes fits the rest of his offense and opens things back up.
Their mistake was extending Goff two years ago when they likely figured he would continue progressing. Well, he didn’t continue progressing. The next question is what to do with that sunk cost.
This is just a call. They made it. One thing the current incarnation of this franchise is not afraid to do is be bold.
If staffolds extension makes sense, then they can keep/get some extra players over the next 4 years. We’ve got Donald, Ramsey and now staffers for the next 3-4 years. If they can shore up the interior of the Oline at all either with an acquisition or further development, they could be really good.
We can beat Seattle, SF still does not have a good QB and Arizona does not scare me.
Chips all shoved to the center of the table!

ParticipantFascinating
(Raises eyebrow)

ParticipantWhat makes Goff tick and put in extra work? None of us know. Their open comments seems like a weird way to motivate him with high potential to do the opposite, but it is possible. Us humans are all different.
None of it makes sense to me.
Hram
ParticipantThis is unexpected to me. Is it possible they are actually considering moving on from Goff this off-season?
I guess they either swap QBs with someone, can’t think who, or trade him to a QB needy team at the top of the draft and start over. Regardless, I thought the accelerated cap hit made that impossible.
Hram
ParticipantMcVay strikes me as the kind of person that if you jettison him, he comes back stronger with his next team a few years down the road.
Or the organization can be patient with him while he matures.
Goffs contract is going to look a lot better in a couple/three years when the cap goes up.
Hram
ParticipantThat’s my take. If we are strong on the Oline, particularly up the middle, and particularly in pass blocking, everything will work better.
Hram
ParticipantThat was fast.
Given Morris’s reputation, probably a good thing. I imagine the top group of coaches will meld quickly.
Hram
ParticipantI don’t think Goff really was healthy enough to play against the Seahawks except in an emergency. He threw a lot of wobbly wounded ducks.
Against the packers he was zinging the ball with a spiral. He looked a ton better.
Goff was not the problem yesterday at all. He threw into tight windows under pressure a couple of times. Just a fully health Donald probably makes that game even. GB made a ton of third downs.
Hram
ParticipantI agree, Oline improvement is the biggest need.
Might also need to prioritize a WR depending on what they think of the rookie.
Hram
ParticipantDonald being hurt and seemingly on a pitch count didn’t help the defense. A couple well time “Donald” plays on third down would have made a difference.
Akers is a good one. Receivers played pretty well. Goff played very well.
Oline struggled in pass blocking on too many occasions.
Hram
ParticipantAg, has the team structured the other big ticket items correctly so we could afford him and Floyd?
Hram
ParticipantIf we staggered the high pay out contracts correctly, we might be able to keep him.

ParticipantThe Faustian Bargain. I can’t imagine most end well.

ParticipantFolks are getting different newsfeeds as facts on various platforms.
If you haven’t seen it, “The Social Dilemna” documentary on Netflix is worth viewing. It specifically discusses the 2nd and 3rd order affects of Big Techs business model.

ParticipantGo 🐻
Hram
ParticipantGood team win.
Great Defense!
Hope Goff’s thumb can heal some more.
Also hope Donald and Kupp injuries are not serious.
Hram
ParticipantWe rallied around Wolford and we played a good football!
Plus, we made their backup QB look bad.
Hram
ParticipantCan they replace it with a bionic thumb?
Hram
ParticipantDefense played great.
they played good. i wouldn’t say great. but they played good.
offense was terrible. absolutely terrible. left at least 10 points on the board. at the very least.
I dunno Invader. It seemed like around 1/3rd of the game we gave them the ball between the 40 and 50 yet still held them to 20 points. I think the defense played great.
Hram
ParticipantIs it McVay, Goff or both? I don’t think you can pin this one on anyone else.
Defense played great.
We have a field goal kicker.
We really struggle scoring points in some games.
Switch QBs and I believe we win going away.
Hram
ParticipantMerry Christmas 🎄 everyone!
