ParticipantSure, but Gurley has the most two point conversions in the league and it isn’t even close .
NFL Throwback@nflthrowback
@PatrickMahomes5 is the first player in @NFL history to throw 10 touchdown passes in the first two games of the season. (Absurd but true: he’s on pace for 80 TDs this season…)With 28 catches so far this year, @Saints WR Michael Thomas has the most receptions through the first 2 games of the season since at least 1950. He’s on pace for 224 catches this season…that’s 81 more than the current record (143 by the @Colts Marvin Harrison in 2002)

ParticipantCould be playing the rams put him into a more coachable frame of mind. He certainly was a beast.
Can you imagine this offense with last Monday’s Cook on the team?
Hram
ParticipantGoff and the receivers were a little bit out of sync, but got better over the game. Gurley is a beast. Donald needs another week or two. Linebackers played reasonably well. Cornerbacks played exceptionally well. Oline was good throughout.
Wish we had a tight end as good as theirs 🙂

Participant6th rounder, he is likely to make it to the practice squad imo. Today may be the best timing to ensure he gets there, assuming they saw enough to want him.
As you said, they only dress 7 anyway.

ParticipantIt works out to an average of 22.5 per year for 6 years (I believe) with a solid amount of guaranteed money. Provided he stays healthy, this should work out fairly well for cap management down the road.
What might the rams do with the extra cap savings for this year with the two restructures this week. I’m guessing another contract extension – perhaps a cornerback.
Or a new player like a backup QB. Never been a Mannion fan (as a pro QB) and i’m an Oregon state grad who watches a lot of PAC 12 football.

ParticipantThis must be what a good and functional front office looks like. Cool

ParticipantIt is also interesting to see who is getting a good percentage of the special teams snaps
Mundt On offense, given the lack of tight end separation, makes me wonder if he might stick.

Participant1. I just want to see the deal happen .
2. If I got to make that decision I would rather see 22 with larger guarantees and then him stay healthy the whole time to save a couple million per year for another player
Hram
ParticipantI think he is playing his way onto the practice squad.

ParticipantIt would be great if they could get it done 6-12 days prior to the season opener so the defense could practice together with everyone before the season opener. Not imperative, but it wouldn’t probably hurt.
I’m going to guess something long term like a 6 year deal.

ParticipantSuddenly in the last year we have the appearance of a franchise with a clear vision that knows what they are doing.
Locking in young talent that will play together for the next several years keeps the window open.
Cool.
Hram
ParticipantYea!
And he is still playing this year at 8.5. Even better!
Hram
ParticipantIf Gurley is as good as Faulk, you keep Gurley.
Otherwise I agree with you that good RBs are easier to find. I believe they can play earlier at a higher level than most positions.
How about we pay Goff 28; Donald 21; cooks 15; Peters 14 and we keep Joyner, Brockers and Kupp. 🙂
Hram
ParticipantGoff and Donald

ParticipantGood discussion.
Might be interesting to differentiate between starters (I’d include the nickel guy with starters) and bakups/roll players.
Then again maybe not, could become too complicated. 🙂

ParticipantI’ve just never thought that he was that great of a weapon as a gadget player that he can be counted as a hit regardless of where he was drafted.
I believe he is a career backup part time gadget player.
If he was a 4th rounder or lower, that would be okay, but I still wouldn’t count him as a hit. But it would be okay for that amount of draft capital.
Hram
ParticipantTeams had to account for Tavon a couple years ago because he was the best of the worst, not because he is good.
A well above average returner whose ball security brings him down to above average.
A below average runner whose change of pace skills are helpful, but he is still below average.
A below average wide receiver.
He is not a trung candidate level bust, but imo opinion career backups who can’t get on the field much are not hits.
Hram
ParticipantUnderstand, but no 1st or 2nd rounders this year and their percentage is a tad higher than the rest. 🙂
Hram
ParticipantPossible, but it is well documented over many years that you are optimistic this time of year. 🙂
All these folks have time to develop and we may have filled out our practice squad with draft picks alone and given the upside of some, that could turn out to be a good thing.
Meat and potatoes draft of lineman and linebackers. I like it in that I think it was exactly what they needed given all the sparkle was picked up in the off-season.
Saving a couple million by trading tavon may help with a signing or two, so we have that going for us.
Hram
ParticipantI like that they went online the first two picks. It makes a great deal of strategic sense to me. I have zero idea if these were the two to take.
I bet we take one more before the end of the 6th.
Hram
ParticipantAthletic ability of an early pick so if he can be taught (he seems coachable) then he has the chance to be a good LT. I thought they might go Crosby, but they probably like Joe’s upside better.
I bet they take at least one more online man in the 6th since they will have so many opportunities.
Bets for the 4th round? I’m going to say two linebackers or edge rushers and a DB.
Unless Crosby drops, he could play guard or tackle, provided he tackle if healthy and would push Havenstein and brown even his rookie year imo..

ParticipantOr gain 2 4th rounders.
I agree, that would be funny.
Unlikely IMO, but pretty funny. 🙂
Hram
ParticipantI don’t think you draft players to be on your team anymore.
I think you acquire players, one way is through the draft, to be on your teams for their current (or pendimg like Cooks) contract.
It’s a subtle difference that may cause draft picks to be more or less important depending on a couple things like where you are at on the “really actually competitive window” curve.
Enough draft picks don’t pan out that in some ways it negates the cheap labor on the rookie deal that you drafted yourself argument. Maybe, somewhat.
Hram
Participantsuh gives an impressive interview.
I think Webster may not have been ready at the beginning of the year anyway. Can’t keep everyone and I think he graded out about average for CBs last year.
Hram
ParticipantI believe cooks is a number one wide receiver. He gained 1000 yards and had seven touchdowns for the last three years with two different teams that spread the ball around
I hope they can sign him to a long term deal
Hram
ParticipantI concur with both ZNs comments.
Don’t love obj for this team.
Trading for short term mercs then pocketing the comp pick at the back end is likely the new norm.

ParticipantThey traded a lower 2nd round pick this year for a comp 3rd round pick next year to get Watkins services for last year.
I think we struggle to make the playoffs last year without Watkins and therefore believe it was worth the one year rental price to assist in building the winning culture.
For this year, given Kupp’s performance last year, I think Watkins is a nice to have, but not a need.
Need is signing AD.
Hram
ParticipantThis one I did not expect.
Either Wade has lost it, or he completed his assessment over the past year and is jettisoning everyone who doesn’t fit his scheme.
I’m guessing they don’t pick up anyone really expensive in free agency and use the savings they acquire to front load a couple contracts to preserve some cap space over the next four years.
The defense may be a little rough over the first third of the year.
Hram
ParticipantBased on reports from a couple years ago compared to last year, I believe he is maturing. I believe on a team with good coaches who will explain to him the why, and given a complete offseason with the Rams, he will become that much more lethal.
He draws coverages because he both stretches the field and makes tough catches in traffic. He a physical receiver. His combination of traits makes a difference in opening things for everyone else even when he personally does not get have a high level of production.
I recommend keeping him if it doesn’t break the bank because I don’t think you can replace him with one person and having him on the field makes things better for everyone else.
