ParticipantWatching this video and Derrick Henry makes me believe that sometimes drafting a RB early is justifiable. Context helps, of course but if a RB can change a game like these guys and there is nobody quite as impactful available I am onboard with taking a RB early. Yes, I realize that good RBs can be found anywhere, still doesn’t make me change my mind though.

ParticipantJim McVay is Sean McVay’s uncle…
Gruden also reportedly exchanged emails with Allen and others that included photos of women wearing only bikini bottoms. One photo reportedly included two Washington Football Team cheerleaders. Per the Times, Gruden and Allen also sometimes included Ed Droste, the co-founder of Hooters; Jim McVay, an executive who has run the Outback Bowl; and Nick Reader, the founder of PDQ Restaurants, in the emails.
I wonder if we’ll find out that Sean was on that mailing list? He did work in Washington after all.

ParticipantI spent the first quarter saying “Here we go again! I told you so!” Although I was by myself, so nobody heard me.
Glad the Rams were able to capitalize on the mistakes made by a shaky team. Once the Giants went to their two-minute offense late in the first half it seemed like the Rams defense knew what was coming on nearly every down.

ParticipantI was cheering for the Cardinals today. I’m already conceding the division to Arizona and am therefore resigned to the Rams playing for a WC. So I want to see any threats to a Rams WC lose as many games as possible. Plus I hate the Niners like I hate cold winters.
I was impressed with SF despite the loss.

ParticipantComing off a 10 day rest, on the road, against a bad team…
Exactly the sort of game the Rams typically lose.
Last year’s loss to the Jets is the most recent example. A nice win over the Patriots on TNF in week 15 followed by a 23-20 defeat ten days later to a previously winless Jets team.

ParticipantKupp looked like his shoulder was hurting at the end of the game. I’ve yet to see anything on that though.
canadaram
ParticipantI know that I should be happy. The Rams beat a hated division rival on the road. The Linehan, Spaguolo and Fisher years are still a strong memory, so a 4-1 record should have me giddy. However, all that I seem to be focusing on is the fact that the defense gave up a 98 yard TD drive to Gino Smith. No game is a slam dunk with this defense.

Cardinals scored on every possession yesterday and the Rams now rank 21 in total defenseIt reminded me a little of that Ravens Monday night game from 2019.
canadaram
ParticipantIt was a complete team failure. However, as has been the case since week one it’s the defense that has me the most concerned. Missed passes and INTs are something that Stafford can correct, Michel’s fumble was a tipping point, but I don’t see that as a regular problem for him. The defense, OTOH, had looked vulnerable since the Bears game. I expect good teams to take advantage of the Rams D just like the Cardinals did. Frankly, I’m still surprised that the Rams held Tampa to less than 30 points. I think David Long and the young safeties were exposed all game by Arizona. Also, I don’t know how much that he has left in the tank at this point in his career, but I miss Michael Brokers. I fully expect Seattle use multiple explosive plays to score 30 plus on Thursday night. Hopefully the Rams offense can avoid the turnovers. This isn’t the kind of defense that takes a team on a deep playoff run.

ParticipantSeattleRams@seattlerams_nfl
The NFL defenses who have allowed the most first downs in 2021.1. Seahawks (84)
2. WFT (77)
3. Chiefs (76)
4. Dolphins (73
5. Rams (73)The only team with a winning record here is the Rams.
Let’s be honest, teams have moved the chains on them this year.
The Bears and Colts blew it in the red zone, but moved all day. Brady had 432 yards against them.
They’ve held when they had to, but to do need to tighten up.
It seems like a matter of time before this comes back to bite the Rams on the butt. I thought for sure that Buccaneers offense would take it to the Rams D for a big win. Wouldn’t surprise me to see Murray, Hopkins and Green have big days this week. I’m still not sold on the run defense either.
canadaram
ParticipantThe defense exceeded my expectations.
Impressive what the offense can do without the presence of a strong running game.
Seattle lost again.
Fun day.
canadaram
ParticipantI’m going to enjoy this win for awhile before I start worrying about the gazillion points that I think Tom Brady is going to hang on this defense next week.
I love Cooper Kupp. Hope he can stay healthy.
canadaram
Participantcanadaram
ParticipantLoved Stafford. Loved Kupp, but his toughness after the catch is a double edged sword as I worry about his durability. That Woods grab and toe tap was beautiful. The offensive line looked better than I thought they would in pass protection, but the lack of run game early on worries me.
I was unimpressed with the defense for most of the game. I realize that they only gave up 14 points, but they weren’t facing Peyton Manning in his prime. Hopefully they get better against the run and force more three-and-outs as the season progresses.
Happy for the win and encouraged by Stafford’s debut.
canadaram
ParticipantWell that’s a relief. Clearly the Rams had to do something at RB.
When looking at his stats I noticed that he was not often used as a receiver out of he backfield during his time in NE, even during his two healthy seasons. Is that a function of the Patriots offense or is it a weakness is Michel’s game?

ParticipantEven with the positive reports, I’m still skeptical that Jacob Harris can make a quick transition from WR at UCF to TE in the NFL. I don’t see that as an easy switch for a rookie. His physical attributes sure are exciting though, but I’m curious as to why he wasn’t more of a contributor to his college offense. I would have bet anything that Hopkins would be getting more reps than Harris this year. Intrigued to see how things pan out.
I’ve been uneasy about the Rams interior offensive line since they made Atwell their second round pick. This camp report about Allen switching it at C doesn’t do anything ease my concerns. Hopefully I’m overreacting and it’s just the Rams trying different combinations for the sake of being prudent.
canadaram
ParticipantSo nice to see you again, Jim.
canadaram
ParticipantSpeaking only for myself, I will remain fixated on the offensive line until there isn’t a reason to be. I have no idea who the LOT of the future is. Similarly, I don’t know who the centre of the present or the future is. I can’t even wrap my head around what happens if some guys leave in free agency. Without a first round pick, I don’t see the Rams finding their LOT of the future in next year’s draft, but what do I know. The second round can be a good place to find guys for the interior offensive line though.
It’s never too early to talk about the draft, BTW.

ParticipantMy favorite of his “weird” movies is “The Grand Budapest Hotel” Definitely a bad guy in this one…
I love the Wes Anderson movies. Dafoe is fun to watch in them. He was also great as the voice of the rat in Fantastic Mr. Fox.
canadaram
ParticipantI love Willem Dafoe. The first two movies in which I saw him perform were Streets of Fire and To Live in Die in LA. Neither were particularly great movies, but I remember thinking that he is amazing at playing a villain. Platoon was the first movie that saw him playing a “good guy.” That is when I really appreciated what a great actor he is. There were several movies on that timeline that I still need to see. There were also many Dafoe movies that I have seen that were not included. I still want to see The Lighthouse.
The thing that I liked best of all about that video is that Dafoe seems like a genuinely nice person.

ParticipantBTW, I don’t agree with Rodrigue’s idea that a rookie centre would likely not have played for the Rams this year. I think that Humphrey would definitely have started at some point this season. Not necessarily out of camp, but I believe that if nothing changesthe Rams are in trouble at centre for the 2021 season. I have no faith in Corbett successfully making the switch. Perhaps I am just overly pessimistic about the interior. I just feel like it’s going to be reminiscent of when John St Clair started at RT in 2002.
EDIT: I mean, I know it might be easier to disguise some deficiencies in the middle of the line compared to outside where St. Clair lined up, but I am just arguing that the middle of the line will be a weakness easily exposed by teams with above average front-sevens.

ParticipantThat article is an excellent recap. Yet it didn’t make me feel any better about the Rams passing on some talented centres in the 2nd and 3rd round.
Late round and UDFA safeties have a decent track record of making the Rams roster. Given that Johnson’s departure leaves a hole, Warner has a good chance of sticking with the team. The UDFA safety out of Pittsburgh ran a 4.85 40. I doubt he makes it.

ParticipantNew #Rams WR Jacob Harris could be a move TE at the next level. Little production in college, but an absolute freak show.

ParticipantWR/TE Jacob Harris was my highest-ranked sleeper in the draft. Former soccer player who is a freak talent. Will be a standout on special teams while he develops on offense. #Rams https://t.co/8ysTUYosRu

I don’t what else he says about him in The Athletic.

ParticipantI saw that Dane Brugler had Harris as one of his draft sleepers. I don’t get The Athletic, so I don’t know what he said about him, however.

ParticipantThanks for the explanation, zn. We’ve had a lot of weird things happening with the wifi in our house so I just assumed that it was something on my end.
As far as the second round of pictures go….hoo boy…he’s so tiny. I don’t care how fast he is, I am going to have to go into some heavy duty self deception to convince myself that this pick isn’t so bad. Pre-draft I had read about the Rams supposedly having some interest in Atwell, but I just assumed that he’d be a potential day 3 target or maybe at worst he’d be one of their 3rd round picks. I realize that the front office knows waaaayyyyy more about this stuff than I do and I rarely get too riled about what I perceive as surprising draft picks, but this pick really annoys me.
canadaram
ParticipantWeird. I replied once to the photos that zn posted and it automatically disappeared. So I quickly put together a different reply. Now I see that that my initial post, the one that disappeared, has shown up as the most recent post. *shrug*

Tutu Atwell vs. Tyreek Hill……in photos, same size?
It seems impossible that an adult’s legs could look so thin and frail. Are we sure that this picture hasn’t been altered or maybe that it was taken at such a strange angle to make his legs look like a canoe paddles that have had both paddles broken off so that only the shafts remain? I really can’t get over that the Rams made a tiny WR their second round choice when such strong center prospects were still available.

ParticipantFrom Ourlads
One-year starter from Aubrey, TX. Started all nine games in 2020 and played in 40 games total over 4 years. An ascending player who started to come on the last four games of the year where he was injury free for the first time in his career. Has the prototypical arm length and angular frame for a left 4-3 or a 3-4 defensive end. Flashes strength against double teams and is quick enough to get into the pass rush lanes. Gets his hands up when stalemated at the line and gets in the throwing lane. Good awareness. Can hold his ground, set the edge, and keep his outside arm free. A good athlete who can run and take good cross field pursuit angles. Stays on his feet. Plays with functional strength. Uses his hands well to control and separate from a blocker. Keeps working throughout the play. Breaks on quick passes and runs to the ball. Has the footwork to move and disengage himself from a block. Demonstrates effort on long and short pursuit. Durability is a question. Sixth/Seventh round.
