    Rams’ new “2-headed beast”

They ran it down Dallas’ throat. We have the No. 2 run defense. Do we have what it takes to kill their “beast”?
    ———–
Games rarely mirror the previous week.

They won’t be at home on Sunday. We will also have tape to see now on how to combat what they were doing.
    ———-
They only play the game with one football. We just need to stop the run whoever is in there.
    ———
The NFL’s best run defense isn’t going to suddenly become Pee Wee Herman.

Yeah, we’ll certainly miss Rankins, but… we’ll bring it! Ryan Nielsen and Mike Nolan will have them game-ready!
    ———-

There’s a reason why the Rams were so successful running the ball against the Cowboys. We don’t have that issue
    ———
There hasn’t been a run game this year that this defense couldn’t step up to. I doubt we let butterball run it down our throat.
    ———
CJ was beast. He’s a load and he’s fresh. Not having Rankins isn’t ideal. Our offense has to be effective, it will help keep a full dose of CJ out of their play selection if they’re playing from behind or trying to keep up.
    ———
No doubt they have talented backs. But, it also helped tremendously in that Dallas pretty much tipped LA off on what they were going to do defensively by lining up in certain positions along the line. Dallas was telegraphing their stunts and all without knowing that the Rams identified this in film study.

LA pretty much knew what Dallas would do in 90% of their plays. This obviously helps a ton when they’re able to know what’s coming and block it to allow for massive runs to happen.

I’m gonna need some help this week. I said last week I was done worrying for the year….I got that out of my system weeks 6 thru 8. Truth be told though this game really worries me. Their run game not so much….we’re pretty good against the run. I worry about us not being able to score enough points on offense to get it done.

The identity of our team has changed since the first match up. We need a low scoring game to stay in it I’m afraid. I’m gonna need help from you guys keeping the worry bug at bay. I can list reasons we should win this game but I keep coming back to our offensive production as of late. It worries me.
    ————-
CJ gonna be gassed by all the NOLA Food before the game even starts.
    ———–
    1. Saints offense HAS to start quicker than they did against the Eagles
    2. We need to execute our big plays:

If we hit on out 3-5 big plays we will win.

Rams have the Saints Superbowl OLine and DLine coaches

    Aaron Kromer (OLine)
    2008 – 2012 Saints
    2017 – 2018 Rams

    Bill Johnson (DLine)
    2009 – 2016 Saints
    2017 – 2018 Rams

Both units playing well for the Rams. I knew about Johnson for a while but Kromer was a surprise. He’s definitely put together some great units for us in his tenure.
    ————-
Now that you mention it, they are using our old coaches with their new team while we’re using new coaches on our old team.
    ————
They’ve also got the wrong Sean.
    ————-

Rankins believed to have torn achilles

This will hurt against the Rams.
    ————
Hopefully the Saints can find the CJ Anderson version of 3-tech DT as a FA this week!
    ————-
This is a serious blow to our run defense. It’s a shame and the Rams will benefit next week with inside runs.
    ————
Regardless, the rams will NOT run all over the saints like they did to the cowboys. Losing Rankins still hurts, no getting around it. But the saints can survive it.
    ————-
I briefly perused a Rams board and their fans are mostly thinking we will get smoked by them. Talib being back and such.

I do hope we have a plan in place for Fowler he actually gave us fits last game….not stats wise but always making Drew uncomfortable. Idk tho, we did get 45 on em.?.

Topic: Does anyone else feel better facing the Rams this week than the Eagles last week?

    > I just didn’t have a great feeling we were going to blow the Eagles out like some analysts were predicting. I oddly feel better about this matchup for some reason even though it points to another nail biter. The crowd will be even more electric. I believe the Eagles have a better defense than the Rams too. I’m no going to predict a win but, I do think you see a team that will play well in all four quarters

    > The Eagles game certainly had every factor going against the Saints. Scrappy team that felt disrespected and was playing hot with their new QB. The Rams game is what it is. NFC championship game against clearly the best two teams in the NFC. Just as it should be. Whatever happens, happens.

    > Sorry not really. Rams have talent nearly at every position. Our defense needs to play well. I’m not sure our offense can put up a fifty burger shootout type game.

    > We slow their run game down, we win period

    > Was nervous last week and a little moreso this week. Feel better knowing we shook the rust off, but that’s about it. I feel like when the Rams are clicking they are a superior team to the Eagles.

    > CJ anderson was straight bowling dudes.

    > Rams scare me more

    > I feel nervous w/o Rankins and w/ our offense still not being in sync since like week 12. (me: ha ha, sound familiar?)

    > I was more worried about the Eagles. Foles is better and more playoff-ready than Goff, for one.

    > Need the defense to slow their runnng game. Our offense needs to click better than it has in weeks. Get Ginn, Kamara and Ingram involved. No turnovers and limit penalties

    > I have 0 confidence Goff can perform in a pressure cooker with trumpets blaring in his ears for 3 1/2 hours. If we stop the run, we win this.

    > I’d feel better if Talib was out again. Or if one of our other wrs can step up.

    > no…i’m pretty damn nervous about the Rams

    > rams dont have much of a defense so it should be easier to score against them they it was against the eagles, that said, on any given sunday any team can be your worst nightmare

    > I’m worried without rankins how will this run defense be

    > Just bottle up their run, make Goff beat you. This is his first road playoff game. Make him make the incredible throws to beat you. He hasn’t done it for the last two months

    > We faced Cooper Kupp earlier this season… this time he’s out. That’s their biggest missing piece from game 1. Obviously them having Talib this time is a key addition… as well as the new RB (and former Panther) Anderson to fill in for Gurley on occasion

    > I was very nervous about the Eagles and I feel that my fear ended up being justified. Very close game. But I’m definitely less nervous about the Rams, if only slightly. I think they’re a more dangerous team but this time we are warmed up, not gonna be rusty, we have our OL (well… Peat idk), and honestly it wouldn’t be as bad to lose to the Rams. Don’t get me wrong, I would be tore up… I want to win bad. But getting 1 and done’d by a clearly inferior team would have been worse for sure.

    > Is Talib still a good CB? I don’t think he can match up with Thomas. And all Thomas has to do is get in a rhythm against Peters and that will get him out his element. He’s a hothead and you can see him getting frustrated on the field. We need our other WR’s to step up. I’m expecting Kamara and Ingram to have a big game.

    > Talib will cheap shot, hold, pass interfere, and helmet to helmet the Saints WR’s.

    > It seems like everyone is assuming we stop Gurly since we stopped him the first go around when it was really Mcvay who stopped him after being forced to throw alot after being in such a big hole that early in the game. I think its funny we assume this less than a week after not only gurly ran for 100 but cj anderson ran for 100 too against the cowboys d who isnt a slouch. Gonna be a tough game.

    > I don’t think anyone is assuming we stop them. I think people are assuming our D sells out to stop the run which we have been pretty damn good at doing this year.

    > Bottom line is this. It’s going to likely be a close game. In a close game every little advantage matters. Home field is usually worth 3 points. I’d say our is worth slightly more. If everything holds true and it’s a close game, who do you have more faith in, Drew Brees and Payton or Goff and McVay…on the road?

    > My only concern is our interior line getting destroyed by Suh and Donald, thus affecting Drew and allowing guys like Talib and Peters to not have as much pressure. We will have to play much cleaner in the interior OL than we did against Philly bc their offense will put pressure on us. Cannot allow them a lead to establish the run.

    > It’s the NFC championship. You should feel like there’s a 55-65% chance of a win woth home field. That’s about how I feel right now in the week.

    > The Rams are very good. Saints give them a 14 point lead, and the game will be over.
The Rams, Chiefs, and Patriots are really good teams. All 3 concern me.
Saints can beat all of them, if they play their “A” game.

    > Rams remind me of early Payton Years Saints teams. They’re really explosive but are built for speed, not rough terrain. Remember how we used to get beat by tougher teams in the playoffs? That’s who we are now. I predict we punch them in the mouth and slowly choke them out.

    > We have to play like we did against the Steelers. That was a very good defense. Close game too. I just hope we can score early and often.. and never give up the lead in this one.
