Enh. I think AD is a product of Morris’s scheme. And Phillips’s scheme too, before that. And Williams’s scheme before that. I think that as elite defensive tackles go, AD is just a game manager type.

Thought about this from this morning’s Zoom presser re: Chris Shula being promoted to Rams DC – the value of his relationship and working extensively w/ LB Ernest Jones IV (green dot).

Should be very beneficial with relaying play calls, most effective communication for Jones.

In other words, Shula should have a great understanding of what works, and doesn’t, for Jones, based on how much time he’s worked with him.

Big for continuity and something that I imagine further helped his candidacy

Other notes from new Rams DC Chris Shula’s presser:

    – “Still working through” filling openings on staff, including DL coach
    – “Work in progress” whether they stick w/ base scheme, but will use a lot of same structures, same 3-4 structure and some of same core beliefs
    – Shula also said still to be determined whether he calls plays from booth or from sideline, but ultimately wants it to be a collaborative decision based on with LB Ernest Jones IV and other players want.

    From [link above]

In terms of the Rams’ base scheme for the upcoming season, Shula said that is “a work in progress,” but preliminarily indicated there wouldn’t be wholesale changes.

“I think we’ll use a lot of the same structures, the same 3-4 structure and some of the same core beliefs,” Shula said. “But it’s all about the players. So we’re going to do whatever the players can execute at a high level, where they can go out and play fast and play with confidence. And whatever the offense gives us, we’ll be able to have answers to, and they can go be the best version of themselves.”

Fwiw, Shula has coached under these coordinators and so in their systems:

Chargers, 2015-16: John  Pagano, who was influenced by Wade Phillips

    Rams, 2017-19: Wade Phillips

Rams, 2020-23: Staley then Morris, both with versions of the Fangio defense. Morris ran the Fangio system with the Rams but his deep roots go back to the Bux and Monte Kiffin, who was a Tony Dungy, “Tampa 2” disciple.

Mahomes…Tuesday as he continued preparations for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII:“Everybody talks about the sidearm throws and the no-look passes — I mean that’s from watching guys like Matthew Stafford play that I’ve been able to do it.

I kind of got some hype coming into the league, but I mean you watch the film, he’s the guy that kind of started that stuff off, him and Brett Favre. And so it really is cool to be able to kind of be along those guys now, and be able to have my own impact on the game. I mean, those are the guys that I watched, that influenced me to be the quarterback that I am.”
