There is a lack of appreciation for defensive players and good defensive play in the media ranks. Defensive tactics are harder to comprehend for the casual observer so it’s harder to praise individual defenders or the collective unit w/o eye-popping stats (sacks/INTs)

Good point. McVay is smart, a good motivator, has a good handle on his team. He’s 26-10 since taking over a flailing team. Much more likely than not that he’ll overcome this clunker and the Rams will be good going forward.

That game was a defensive coaching masterpiece on both sides. The Pats were so confused by Wade early they burned 2 timeouts with 6:00 to go in the 1st quarter. The Rams were so out sorts Goff was feeling things that weren’t there.

Another benefit of the Patriots playing a 6-1 front: it negated L.A.’s jet sweeps so thoroughly that Sean McVay abandoned them in the second half. With only one stack linebacker, there was no one for the jet action to impact.
