JackPMillerParticipantWe gave up 32 points to the 9ers. granted 18 of them were late, but we should have been able run the clock down on them. Even though it was at the end of the half, but we needed to finish the drive with 6, not 3. It is something that this team needs to do in order to grow.

Though just the injury scare in itself vindicates the idea of sitting starters in the final game last year if you don’t need that final game (this year of course they did).

Yeah I agree last year but with the bye and the team slowly coming out of the funk this season getting the bye locked up without Gurley is huge. Notebloom is huge CJ is huge . And even the rookie Kelly fighting for 1sts is great to see. Fowler has been a game changer and Littleton as well even Barron starting to show up finally.

I don’t know if OL evaluation is your forte Jack. For a rookie to come in and play like he did is pretty impressive to me. And knowing he can do that from any spot on that line is even better.

I’m looking when he has to play LT against the better defenses. San Fran is no where near to the talent he will face in the future, if this team wants to succeed in the playoffs, and winning Super Bowls.

Not what a Left Tackle should be? Though…it’s what most of them (and I mean the vast majority) actually ARE, if not less. In fact there are only a tiny handful of starting LOTs in the league who weigh more than Noteboom currently does. Here’s a list of LOTs from teams with top offenses—and the list includes some of the best in the game:

6-5, 309lbNear as I know without looking, there are only 3 starting LOTs who come in at considerably more than Noteboom does: Whitworth, the Patz’s Trent Brown, and Philly’s Jason Peters (who lists at 6-4, 328).
Can you think of any other exceptions who weigh in at more than 320 or so? (In fact on my list of some top LOTs only 4 are about the same as or a little more than Noteboom. Most are less.)

Games 15 AND 16
So this one is suuuuper late because I wanted to cover college games from yesterday and tomorrow …
Thing I liked about this game, is that we are reeling coming off some tough games, and we just strapped our boots on and got to work to put the game away.
The Great
1) CJ and the realization that he could digest the playbook and have the game he did.
2) Donald breaking records. I have huge smiles for a player inking a contract and breaking records the same year.
3) Everett being a bigger part of the gameplan against the Cards.
4) Noteboom. Not just his play and positivity about the future of the position … but he put on 20 15 lbs of muscle where he needed it.
5) Littleton’s INTs and TD.
The Good
6) Pulling players on time both games … for the most part.
7) Goff seemed to have his timing back. Trusting his eyes.
8) Run blocking asserting itself and keeping the birds and 9ers on their heels.
9) John Kelley’s effort and anger.
10) Some good scheming getting people open … Higbee and Reynolds finding the plays that work for them.
11) Saffold blocking downfield … he’s going to be a priority to resign I think at the right price.
12) Good sign I think with Allen coming in and getting some reps and pushing guys around a little.
The Bad
13) Still Mannion. I’m drafting a QB. Ill get to that later.
14) Getting Whit dinged is just … a bummer.
15) Listen, I get that you want to keep Woods on the field and Cooks too, but let’s at least not put them into route combinations that can get them blasted by safeties. Like, aren’t there a set of “safe” route combos you develop for late in games when you don’t want your guys exposed? Maybe there isn’t, but it seems like it wouldn’t be a hard thing to develop.
16) Really not enjoying Brockers and Suh’s play so much. Excited about not spending that next year.
17) Why Ramik Wilson rather than Micah Kiser?
18) Where is Obo?
19) Can’t stop TEs. Even if we know that’s the only pro bowler on their offense.
The Ugly
20) Having to look forward to the Super Dome.

Of course McVay is 0-1 in the Big Dance. 0-2 would raise a tentative whispering question in wv-brain: what if he’s another shottenheimer?
They earned their Bye. They earned their home game. But are they legit, or are they paper-rams? I have to say, I’m not sure.

vBoy, it’s not hard to tell who the Russian trolls are on this board.
The 9ers game, I think, taught us nothing. Maybe…MAYBE…we saw a defense that is starting to get itself together a bit. But maybe not. Hard to tell when it “gets together” against AZ and SF. Regardless, I think one of the big questions heading into the offseason is “WTH happened on defense?” Because the combination of Wade and all the retooling on defense led to higher expectations for this team than we got. There are a lot of first rounders on that defense who played like JAGs. Brockers and Suh both seemed pretty average, at best. Barron was MIA. Peters couldn’t play without Talib. Joyner made no case for a big contract. Hill regressed…or played over his head last year. We have Donald, Littleton, Johnson, Talib…and some guys. I think that falls short of expectations, and I don’t know anything about why that is so. All I know is that is what I see.
To say the least, the Rams had better win in two weeks, or else there is going to be a riot among Rams fans. I mean…to start 8-0, or whatever it was, and then just descend into mediocrity, and then One and Out in the playoffs…would not be well-received. And that would be tough to get over, though we would eventually reconcile ourselves to it, and give the draft an standing ovation, and look forward to next year. Because that’s football. But…man…that would be bad.
I like the Rams’ chances of winning that first game. 60/40ish. But…basically…I am looking at trying to win 3 consecutive coin flips. The odds of that are 12.5%, btw. So my precise calculation of the Rams’ chances of winning the SB this year is 12.5%.

vYeah, me too. That’s why I want the Bears. That is the Bar for me. The season started for me with expectations that the Rams would be in the hunt, in the Top Four teams with realistic Super Bowl contention. If they lose to the Bears twice, then the Rams do not belong there. They are a pretender, not a contender. And I want contention. That is my Bar. It will feel like a lost season to me if the Rams’ only improvement was to earn a bye in the playoffs. That isn’t enough. They have to win a playoff game this year, and it should be against the Bears. They already beat Seattle twice, and Dallas – although they are better than average – are not a contender. Dallas is probably not going to beat Seattle, and if they do, that’s the end for them no matter what, I think.
The Bears are real, and they handled the Rams, and for the sake of self-respect, the Rams need to handle them back.

canadaramParticipantIt’s been exciting to see the run game over the last two weeks. I hope McVay remains committed to running the ball in their first playoff game. Since McVay and Kromer arrived, the Rams have had a good run blocking line. It seems like this offense can be a great run first offense if that’s what McVay wants. Goff still wasn’t great for much of yesterday’s game, but he still threw some nice passes when it counted. Loved what I saw from Noteboom. I’m still not a big fan of Ebukam. Hopefully the Rams can upgrade his position next year and he comes in as a backup in 2019. Not that I’m suggesting that Ebukam is the only reason the Rams defense gives up big plays.
Anywho, sweeping the Niners en route to a sweeping the division? I love it. My eyes are wide open about the Rams deficiencies, but the first two years of the McVay era have been dreamy. Bring on the playoffs.
