PA RamParticipantI hear it on the radio–see it on their message board, hear it from them directly.
They believe that McVay would rather play them than the Vikes so he is pulling starters to lose this week and hoping the Rams get the 4th seed.
I don’t believe that for a second. I mean–it just makes SENSE to rest the starters. Who cares who they play if they’re healthy? Why can’t that be motivation enough to rest the starters?
No–it has to be some Dr. Evil mastermind plan to get a weak opponent in the round AFTER they play the wild card round(which they would HAVE to win first).
It’s amusing but a little annoying too.

JackPMillerParticipantI live in Eagle country per say. The fans don’t care. The fans here tell me, they did play their best game, and should have blown us out. The fans say Nick Foles is far superior to Jared Goff. Don’t believe me, come to Reading, which is outside of Philadelphia, and if you count the suburbs, we have over 140,000 people here.

TSRFParticipantI converse with a group of Philly fans on a weekly basis. They work for a large multi-national and the discussion centers around electronic components for use in satellites, but we do at times discuss sports, especially after Wentz’ injury (they know I’m a Rams fan).
Their overall feeling was something like that was just bound to happen, because, well, it’s the Eagles. They have had their hearts broken, dare I say it, even more than Ram’s fans. At least in the last 30 years. I say that because they have had some very good teams that just never made it over the hump to win a Super Bowl.
The Rams added to their misery in the past; remember the “Fog Bowl”? And we just so happened to be the team they were playing when there QB got KO’d.
They have got the Mel Brooks “Hope for the best, expect the worst” mentality. I understand why they think the Rams are tanking to get another shot at them again; it’s just in their make-up. I’m sure most of them have already written off a chance to get to the Super Bowl, now they are looking for the justification.

Watching NFL network I got on after it started a discussion about the Rams. Not sure who the guy was (probably ex cowboy since they are employed there) said the Rams have a shot at the #2 seed if the Vikings lose and they win, also they lose good chance they are #4, so there theory is rest all starters and more than likely go to Philadelphia in the playoffs. This commentator said go to Philly in bone chilling cold with a California QB against a team who already beat you and has a better idea of what they are running. Rams have no shot at the 2nd seed even if both have 4 losses. The Vikes hold the head to head tiebreaker over them.Sean McVay has hinted, and the LA sportswriters have picked up on it, that he’s resting Goff, Gurley, Donald, and Whitworth so that if they lose on Sunday and the Saints win, the Rams will have the number 4 seed and a chance to go to Philly. As John McMullen on ESPN 97.3 said, this is so arrogant on so many levels.
1. It’s showing no respect to whomever they play in the WC game. They’re ignoring the fact they may not even win that game. Particularly if it’s Carolina.
2. It’s disrespecting the Eagles. Ok Foles isn’t Wentz, but he has played in a playoff game and I would even argue 2 since the 2nd Dallas game in 13 WAS in essence a playoff game. They had to win to get in.
3. A game in the northeast in January, outside, where the track is slower is not ideal. Plus, you have film on each other and I dare say Schwartz will have the D ready for those outside sweeps they ran the first time.Unread Today, 10:28 AM Posted in reply to thegodfather’s post “Rams” #3

It’s a smart move. You rest your players. You avoid Minnesota who also beat you. You avoid MVP Wentz who put this team in this position. You are now playing with Robert Woods who will help spread the offense. You have Gurley who benefits with having that deep threat. Their ‘California QB’ doesn’t have to carry the offense like Wentz did. He can just get the ball to Gurley through the ground or the air.Unread 12-28-2017, 01:57 PM #1

Dumbest thing I ever heard. I think they are being dumb resting people and not going for the #3 seed. Carolina may bite them in the ass. NFL Karma is a bitch. Plus if it plays out that the #3 and #4 seeds meet in the NFC Championship they blow the home game.IronEagle

I think flat out tanking is just bad mojo. You play to win. You are correct about NFL Karma.Now if guys are banged up I can understand giving them a rest.
The only situation where it makes sense to not care if you win is the one the Eagles are in right now.
I guess Minn is locked in to their slot so they can rest players as well.

I think they’re just resting players. The NFC playoffs are going to be tough regardless and the difference between a 3 and 4 seed is probably minimal. They get a home game regardless and have to travel if they win.That being said, if they play the Eagles I think it can still be used as bulletin board material.

I think McVay is resting his team for a four game all out push.
And…I would prefer the Eagles first, followed by the Vikings, but I don’t think it matters much, and McVay didn’t consult me anyway. Left me out of the loop on this one.

Most importantly for me…I want Garoppolo to really stink. Something along the lines of a 45% completion pct and 4 picks. I would love it if the 9ers fans went into the offseason a little unsettled about their QB situation.

Outside of that they’ve never played the Eagles in the playoffs.
I think something has to happen more than once to qualify as a genuine superstitious fear.

Rams beat the Eagles in the “Fog Bowl”.
Rams beat the Giants in the “Flipper runs down the tunnel Bowl”.
Then Rams lose to SF in the “Phantom Sack Bowl”….

LOL, we’re both wrong.
The Rams did beat the Eagles in the 89 playoffs. I spaced that. My brain is old too.
But, they won the week after. They played the Giants next. They then lost to the 9ers in the championship game.
The 49ers then, of course, advanced to beat the Bellichick Patriots in the superbowl.
