I know we expect a lot from the rookie… but I am shocked Kupp didn’t make that catch.

I didnt see it. Someone sum it up.

I see the rams had….five turnovers. FIVE turnovers?

I’m betting at least two were by tavon.

    Tavon can’t catch punts.

10 points left on the table. that’s gonna burn.

not taking care of the ball. i don’t know if the tavon muffed punt led to a fg or a td.

    it burns.

I don’t understand the logic of that rule. Fumble into the endzOne is a touchback? WHY!!!

Gurley was a little too comfortable reaching for the pylon. Fumbled out of the side of the endzone. Seahawks ball, 20 yard line. No TD, no FG, no points. Big momentum swing in the wrong direction. And on the first drive.

Goff threw a bad screen pass, got picked off in FG range. No points. Another momentum killer.

    Tavon fumbled.

This Rams teams just wasn’t ready to win this type of game. Seattle was intense, and seized every small opportunity. The Rams didn’t.

You can’t ease into a street fight.

But maybe next time the Rams will get it right… 🙂

EDIT: And GZ missed an easy one.

It was an all around team effort for a loss.

The first quarter was great but after that mistakes and missed opportunities and not much fun to watch. I think playing in front of a sparse crowd where hags fans out number Rams fans wears on this young team. How do you put TA back out for a 2nd punt? How do you fumble through the endzone when your foot is already out of bounds? 10 points for these guys is simply unacceptable and the hags sure didn’t look like Superbowl contenders on D either. Watkins seem lackadaisical watching balls hit the turf while Woods worked his ass off yet again. I guess it’s so disappointing because this team is capable of so much more but they were just off.

Watkins pissed me off. He gave up on that route.

positives. i thought john johnson looked good. all over the field. saw him make tackles, an int (coulda had 2), pass breakups. i think he’s a full time starter by next year at least.

robert woods made some outstanding catches. lots of different guys can hurt you.

tyler higbee. maybe had his best game yet catching the ball i thought. he and woods made some key catches in fourth quarter.

On the play that was ruled a touchback. I didn’t get to see the game here, but NFL network showed it, and Gurley stepped out of bounds before the ball came loose. Even the guys were confused and said that, but feel the refs may have saw something different.

really. i think it just came down to turnovers. 5 rams’ turnovers to the seahawks’ 2.

no way a team – especially this young – wins with that. and at least 3 of them were unnecessary. gurley doesn’t need to stick the ball out like that and expose it. austin needs to hold onto the punt. goff throws a poor pass to gurley and loses a fg.

so i count at least 13 points right there (including gz’s missed fg). i can’t remember what happened after the austin fumble, but i assume a fg there. so that’s 16 points. [ok. nevermind. i forgot. it was an int. still. that’s 13 points.]

taking care of the ball, gz making an easy fg, and better execution wins the game easily.

Wow. I’m a little surprised by the responses. I was expecting to get cheered up by you guys.

Okay. Here goes. First off, I didn’t enjoy watching that game. Not just because they lost. I would have come here saying I didn’t enjoy it even if the Rams had won, even if Kupp made that catch at the end. It was not enjoyable.

I think, though, that the Rams are better than the Seahawks right now, and I think they should have won that game. So…there’s that.

That was a close to a complete team collapse on the Rams’ part, and they still almost won the game.

The Rams’ defense played well enough to win. The DL was all over it. Donald and Quinn had big games, and the Hawks rushed for nothing. They contained Wilson, and shut down everything. The Seahawks got one really good drive…a 75-yard drive resulting in a TD. Then they had two FG drives, 43 yards, and 51 yards, and a gift FG after a turnover. That’s it. That’s what Seattle mustered all day long in spite of 5 turnovers. I believe three of those were inside Rams’ territory. The muffed punt for sure, and the Goff fumble. And I think the deflected pachinko pass that ended up intercepted was also in Rams’ territory.

The Rams drove right down their throat on the first possession. That was an absolute fluke play at the end, and it was the difference in the game, imo. I don’t blame Gurley. He was reaching for the goal line, and whozit hit his arm and dislodged the ball momentarily BEFORE Gurley’s foot touched out of bounds (so I disagree with those of you who thought the fumble was later. I think the replay clearly showed they made the right call on review…as much as I hate it). And the ball happened to hit the pylon. If it hadn’t hit the pylon, they would have ruled it out 1 foot short, and the Rams would have scored a TD, gone up by 7 points, and who knows how that would have affected things psychologically from that point. But we do know it would have added 7 points to the Rams’ total, and they would have won that game.

Nothing went right for the Rams. Bad throws by Goff, muffed punt, bad bounces, 5 turnovers, missed FG, penalties. And they still almost won that game.

It’s not worth anything in the standings, but the Rams – in spite of everything – still played better overall than the Seahawks. I am very unhappy about the outcome. But that showed me a turning tide in the NFC West. The Rams will beat them in Seattle.

I will add…Goff drove them down the field with under two minutes to play, and no timeouts, and nearly won it. They could have won that game. He scorched that pass a little too much for Kupp, imo, but that play was there.

One by Tavon. He fumbled twice, though. Recovered his own fumble the first time. After the second muff, he was removed from punt returns.

The guy is done, imo. He’s good for 5 or 6 touches a game out of the backfield, and that’s it. He’s a goner.

slight disagreement. he shoulda kept 2 hands on the ball. even if he doesn’t get the td he’s got 1st and goal on the 1 yard line. reach out with both hands and dive if anything. and it isn’t just this game. in general he’s been coughing up the ball at an alarming rate. that, the missed fg, tavon’s muffed punt (although it didn’t lead to points), and the goff int for gurley bothered me the most. the goff fumble and the other int. well. shit happens but those other turnovers shouldn’t have happened.

but i agree that i saw promise behind all the missed opportunities. i saw a young team that hung in there with a veteran team.

we also gotta remember this was goff’s 12th start of his career. this was bound to happen, and it happened against what at least awhile ago was the best secondary in the league. he’ll learn from this i am sure.

and even with all that they were maybe what? 1 inch from a winning td catch by kupp?

not bad but at the same time they shouldn’t be satisfied. and i don’t think they were. they know they let one slip away. they’ll learn from this.

    or not.

    The Gurley ruled Fumble

    The missed FG

    Kupp’s drop

I was at the game …..It’s a shame Kupp dropped it…

Rams are a better team but Seattle’s D is still good

Wilson made some nice throws on the run….

I have to be honest. I checked out of the game at half time. I just had a sick feeling about the whole thing. I kept checking scoring updates but beyond that I didn’t watch any football yesterday. It felt too much like last year and with all the crap wrong in the world right now I just didn’t want to endure that frustrating feeling.

    I still feel it.

I’m trying not to think about football this week, I guess. The first four weeks were great–a wonderful distraction.

I just didn’t feel like sitting through this. Had they won I would have missed an amazing win–I know. But I’d still feel better today.

I doubt I’ll watch this game for awhile–if ever.

I hope they can bounce back next week.

If you had told me they’d be 3-2 at for the first five game I’m sure I would have taken it.

Where do they go from here? We will see.

The Rams have issues scoring TDs in the redzone. That was an issue for McVay in Washington too, wasn’t it? That’s something McVay still hasn’t figured out.

This is the ‘kind’ of thing one would expect from a young, rising team. This kind of game full of pluses and minuses.

And this is the kind of game one would expect from a mentally tough, challenged, Seattle team. I thought THEY would be sky-high and motivated for this one. I mean everyone knew this was a statement game. Seattle certainly knew about that statement.

Still looks to me like one team is rising and one is falling a bit.

The rematch should be very inter esting.

And now the test for McV is, can he get them back on track. Can he clean up the mistakes. And can he find a punt-returner with good hands.

4-2 would sound a lot better than the sosar-like 3-3.

One other “singular” play. Whitworth. Hadn’t allowed but one pressure all year, and he gets beaten with Goff getting blown up for a fumble.

Still. I like the way WV put it: the Rams are a team on the rise, and Seattle is on the decline.

I think of the classic short story (cant think of the author) about the old grizzled boxer and the up-and-coming talented young boxer.

Course in the story the kid won 🙁

I noticed the Rams had way more total yards than the hawks.

btw, i have winced at other times when Gurley has stretched out and reached for the goal-line. I wince when ANY player does that in the NFL. I’ve seen too many of those reach-outs turn into turnovers. Earl Thomas is a pro-bowler. The guy makes those kinds of plays all the time. Lesson learned, one would hope.

Yeah, lets hope these young players learn.

    There’s a time to reach,
and a time to secure the ball.

I’d say the time to secure the ball is anytime Earl Thomas
    is on the field.

My view of the game is pretty simple and just not real original.

Seattle is a tough veteran team that made the plays.

Rams are a new young team that made some plays but not enough. (EG. my bet is that rookie Kupp makes that catch from now on.)

They were also let down by vets. Whitworth allows a sack/fumble after playing well all year and the year before. Without that sack/fumble, Seattle is only up by 3.

Zuerlein misses a field goal after being 7 for 7 last week.

If JZ makes that kick and if Whitworth doesn’t allow the sack/fumble, it’s a tied 13-13 game at the end and a FG wins it.

So this is a matter of coming through when it counts.

Seattle is used to doing that, this young Rams team isn’t, especially when the vets uncharacteristically let them down.

I said before the game though that young teams stumble, and they could stumble but if you could still see the upward trajectory, then it would still look good for the future. And that’s how I feel.
