Both offense and defense look vastly improved just from an Xs and Os perspective.

I really regret not being able to watch this game.

    Excited by all the positives

    Very upset about the fumbles

    Not happy about Gurley

I thought both Goff and Mannion played well. Defense played great. Too many penalties on Special Teams.

Blythe and Hemmingway need to be cut. They suck. If something happens to Sullivan, let’s say injury wise, we are screwed at Center. Depth looks like a real concern throughout the OLine. Mason Cole to me, sure would look good in horns, in the 2018 draft Just saying

    1. Goff looked comfortable and he made good throws. The pass to Woods was on the money and sharp and Woods needs to toughen up and hang on to those. Fortunately Kupp was there to save Woods bacon.

    2. Justin Davis 9 carries for 70 yards and if he doesn’t fumble he probably has over 100 yards rushing. His acceleration is wonderful and he jump cuts and changes direction with the best of them. He’s a great change of pace and if he cleans up his ball handling errors he could be a featured back in this league.

    3. Gerald Everett was all he was suppose to be and he was one of the highlights of this game.

    4. Cooper Kupp was solid and played like a seasoned pro.

    5. Sean Mannion was the rock for the Rams tonight and he was wonderful in his extended playing time during the game.

    6. Rams defense, no matter 1st, 2nd or 3rd string was solid in their play.

7.Rams have some newbies who can play on the D-line and put pressure on the QB.

    8. Very impressed with all the Safeties and CBs. They did a good job. Cameron was solid like last summer and Peterson looks like he could be starter in the future.

    9. 2nd and third string O-line worries me.

    10. Clean up the ball handling please.

Dallas looked uninspired tonight. Perhaps its the hang over from Elliot being suspended. Cowboy QBs tonight did not have a good night.
its pre-season and it looked and felt like pre-season. But as I stated there was some positives.

I think everything in that post is pretty accurate. But IMO what I quote there is especially true.

Granted they were not going against the real 1s, but…that defense is just solid from top to bottom. And they are ALWAYS going the right direction. Just so few mistakes. A couple of muffed tackles where Cowboys got yards when they could have been stopped shorter. But that’s it. That defense is just crazy with depth and they played like they had been in that system their whole careers.

1, McVay’s offense just has a better look to it–period. He seems to give the QB good options and the ball was hitting guys who either had a chance to turn and run–or were running in stride.

2.) The dropsies and fumbles sucked but I do like the skill players better this year and they haven’t even added Watkins to the mix yet.

3.) The offensive line did not suck. Yes–the bad snap sucked and Jamon Brown did not play well, but overall it did not suck.

4.) The defense was very solid. I feel so much better about the switch in that unit now. Nice job, Wade.

5.) Everett and Kupp had nice games. Higbee needs to be more sure handed, as well as Hemmingway.

6.) Mannion did an exceptional job. He can even get better when given the chance. He just hasn’t had a chance.

7.)Goff did not play enough. New system. New receivers. I get that they don’t want him hurt but that can happen in week 1. He can also get hurt if he is not prepared. Goff AND Gurley need more game reps.

8.) Justin Davis. Wow. He can’t block for shit but that kid can run. I can’t believe there isn’t some place for him on this team. He looks explosive. He looks—dare I say it–like our best “running” back right now. But yes–he must hold onto the football.

9.)I don’t remember if McVay took any time outs in the game. Did they take ANY?

10.)McVay did not look happy at the end of the game. This is a serious dude. The win meant nothing to him at all. You can bet he will be focused on the mistakes.

I watched about fifteen minutes of plays or so. Looked like a different team out there. Its almost like there’s a new coach or somethin.

Last year it seemed like it was an enormous struggle just to get
    any WR open.
But last night there was always someone open — and — it looked easy, smooth.

    And that was without Watkins.

Why didnt they hire McV thirteen years ago?

i think mcvay already said that goff will play into the second quarter next week. and most likely into the third quarter the third game against the chargers. so i’m excited. he didn’t look glaringly bad last night. in fact he looked solid from what little we saw of him.

mcvay said they needed to be more patient on that first play. i guess goff let go of that pass a little early? maybe some jitters? too hard to tell at this point, but next week should tell us a little more.

i agree with everyone that the defense looked sharp. and yes dallas played without their big stars. but so did los angeles. donald, quinn, and barron were all out. and shoot. they didn’t even allow a first down in the two series they did play. so they did their job.

lastly. this is the most exciting week of the offseason yet for me. they just traded for watkins. i think the skill position groups already looked decent. this just takes it up to another level. maybe not an elite level. but still. i used to think hey just don’t screw up on offense and grind out some wins. now i’m thinking maybe the offense can actually take some pressure off the defense and stress the other team. this guy is explosive. he’s going to make the other guys better. can’t wait for this week to get going. it’s been a long time since i’ve thought that.

Our defense looks amazing. Wade is incredible at what he does. Our first two units were playing fast and loose. They tackled well and suffocated Dallas’s offense. Additionally, our DL and LBs were giving Dallas’s OL problems. Dallas was missing Tyron Smith, but they had the rest of their top OLs out there IIRC. It’s very promising to see our DL and LBs do that without Donald and Quinn.(and very little Barwin and Brockers)

The offense is a work in progress. Our starting offense looked bad on the first drive and great on the second-chance opportunity. There’s not a lot we can evaluate of Goff because he threw so few passes. I liked what I saw in the little we had.

Our first-unit run blocking is still bad. I hope we see improvement. Brown needs to improve at RG.

Our first-unit OL did pass protect well. Whitworth is a rock.

Gerald Everett and Cooper Kupp both were excellent. Everett is the YAC threat that he was billed as in the draft. Kupp is polished and a great football player. He’ll have some inconsistencies as a rookie, but he’s going to make an impact this year.

Pharoh Cooper also had himself a nice day.

We gotta work with our HBs, WRs, and TEs on protecting the ball. There were way too many balls coughed up today.

Justin Davis ran the ball well (although, he received quality blocking). However, he not only coughed the ball up twice, he was a disaster in pass protection. He has talent, but he’s gotta get those issues figured out quickly.

Pace Murphy had a really rough day.

Sean Mannion played well after a rocky start.

I don’t see Nelson Spruce making the team. He’s just too limited of an athlete. I love his toughness and reliability, but he just isn’t getting much separation or creating after the catch.

I agree with Marshall. Let Mannion play with the starters. I’d do it in game 4 of preseason. Let Goff sit out the 4th preseason game, and let Mannion play. Let’s see what he has. You can’t tell with the backups.

my PS game write-ups are generally more focused on the younger players struggling to make the team … or new players form FA.

    The Good

    1) Mike Jordan and the final CB spot … (not just him but the depth behind him) … I liked him last year and see him as a possible eventual starter after some more reps .. and his play was pretty stellar, even though in the second half. The passes he got his hands on to break up were good passes. the INT was great instincts coming off his man to track down an errant throw.

    2) Omarius Bryant … Looks like our backup NT. He is a big, powerful dude. I was hoping he’d look like what I remembered, and he did. He obviously can’t handle high reps yet … but his pocket pushing is a good sign.

    3) Everett. Guy moves like a WR. I’m excited. Im drafting him in fantasy this year for sure.

    4) Kupp … the first down he somehow got, more than anything … balance, power and enough burst to beat an angle. I do not like him dropping the ball, but I’ll chalk that up to jitters.

    5) Whitworth. Mountain of a man.

    6) Ejuan Price … Showed me what I wanted .. that somehow he possesses speed and moves that do not show up in testing.

    7) Longacre and Fox … guys look like they were built for a 3-4 …

    8) Aggressive defensive back play. Across the board.

    9) Llorens … not his burst, but he seems slippery … hope he makes the PS.

    10) Davis’ speed (JUST HIS SPEED)

    11) Robey Coleman … playing like he’s fighting for his life.

    12) Goff looked comfy to me. But two series is not enough for me personally.

    13) Spruce … intelligent and reliable.

    14) Shake Ryan looked good on punt duty.

    15) Marqui Christian was a hitter man … whew.

    16) No injuries.

    The Bad

    17) Brown at OG gets creased too often.

    18) Pace Murphy has one good rep to 2 terrible ones.

    19) I wanted to see Eldrenkamp at OC, not Blythe .. and Blythe got beat a few times and had that terrible snap.

    20) Orlovsky should be out of football.

    21) Woods, hold the ball.

    22) Mannion, you can’t stare down the receivers like that.

    The Ugly

    23) 6 fumbles. What? How? Justin Davis? What the heck, man?

    Overall I was happy .
