Quinn plus schedule

In looking at the rams season, it looks to me like the loss of Quinn and the fact the rams started playing better offenses (Atlanta, NE, Saints) contributed to the
defensive woes.

So, i dont think the D was great to begin with, even with Quinn but losing him
just killed them against good offenses.

And obviously the loss of JJ and Mcleod set them back. And AO is up and down.

I get the impression this team is NOT just one year away from being a playoff team. I think it might take longer. Sigh.

I don’t think the defense is great but it is playoff caliber. I think the collapses we see at the end of games and against teams like Atlanta have to do with coaching and the defense getting worn down. When you play teams with high powered offenses like Atlanta and NE your defense has to get some help from its offense but Rams’ offense is historically bad. Obviously I think it is more than a year away from being playoff caliber.

quinn is done and the secondary is a complete mess.

need to find a defensive end, cornerback, and safety…

on top of finding wrs and an oline…

assuming goff and gurley are real answers. ogletree too.

it’s a rebuild.

When hasn’t it been a rebuild? 2004? This never ends. Other teams either get the rebuild finished or tweek an area and play decent football. The Rams seem to at best tweek for the short term.

The upside to being a Rams fan is heartbreak.

Sprinkles are for winners.

It just so critical that Kronky get some quality topnotch PERSONNEL advice.
I mean who should they keep? Who should they jettison? Who should they draft? Who should they sign in free-agency?

Do we trust Snead to be able to do the job?

If I’m billionaire Kronky, I’m hiring three separate, distinct, Personnel evaluaters, and I’m giving them a million dollars each and I’m telling them scout the Rams and tell me what to do.

Well SK won’t be doing that. For good reason. Any new coach is going to want to decide for himself who to keep and who not to, who will play better in better circumstances and who won’t.

If an owner starts intruding on that, that right there alone is one of the biggest red flags he could possibly send to any prospective coaching hire.

An owner who takes personnel decisions on himself? That would be BAD. It would be SEEN as bad.

I agree more with this than with the more alarmist take.

Except unlike you I also think that the right adjustments could make this team playoff caliber overnight.

Not promising it, just not ruling it out.

This is not the end of the 2011 season Rams. This is something different.

that’s a good question. it’s hard to know which personnel decisions were supported by him and which were not. same with the draft.

i do think the rams need to hire actual football people. guys who know the game. demoff. he’s a pr guy. a cap guy. kroenke needs to hire football executives.

i think a healthy quinn. a dominant quinn would have been the difference but he was not that. so losing jenkins and mcleod hurt even more. so no i don’t think it was a playoff caliber defense.

i think they need to upgrade defensive end, cornerback and safety to be a playoff caliber defense. now what would really send this team over the edge is if they could draft or sign pro bowl caliber talent at one or two of those positions. but just drafting starting caliber talent at those positions would suffice.

I agree with that, but, I think JL was less physically effective and more mentally effective.

BUT I still think they are a playoff caliber D.

What we saw yesterday IMO was mostly the effect of being on the field too much in the 3rd and 4th quarters.

If they can fix the oline, everything else will come along.

The defense would show they are playoff caliber if the offense could even get to average. The special teams are certainly playoff caliber.

Fix the oline which is doable as they have young talent (might need up to two journeyman not currently on the team) and continue to develop Goff then enjoy 10 wins next year.
