znModerator1st half reaction: on the OL they’re missing Jackson, Dotson, and Hav.
McClendon has been playing well, but 3 out of 5 OL are replacements, which is obviously too many and tips things. Atlanta has a good pass rush. Stafford is not as comfortable. It’s 2022 all over again.
Humphries at LOT was the one who blew the 4th and 1 block, and the one who drew the flag that negated the 30+ yard pass. 2026 draft should include OTs and CBs.
For now, time to see if they can become a 2nd half team again.

And then Humphries got the flag that negated the TD to Nacua.
Anyway. At least they battled back in the 2nd half. Didn’t get there but they still get the #5 seed. In 2021, they were wildcard team but still made the super bowl.

i don’t include hav in that conversation. mcclendon has probably played better than hav. but losing alaric and dotson was too much to overcome. that’s 2/5 of the starting lineup.
stafford is not going to win the mvp this year. not even sure he plays next week.
that last second nacua catch that wasn’t a catch was amazing. tutu should have gotten a pi call. stafford missed smith on a wide open most likely game winner.

I agree with all that. Stafford should have put a little air under that ball to Tutu so he could react to it. He was wide open.
That was a dismal first half.
I don’t know if they need help to get the 5 seed, but I sure hope they do. 3 road games through Philly, Chicago, Seattle, or SF will be too much of a hill to climb, I think. Barring further injuries and given the return of Adams, Jackson, Corum, Dotson, Lake, and Witherspoon – even if they flip the switch and play without rust – 3 road games against really good teams is too much. That loss to Seattle may have been the season.
I guess they will just have to take it one game at a time, and give it 110%.

wvParticipantGoddammitt.
They are not peaking.
Robinson had almost 200 yards. Panthers put up 31 on the Rams. Lions 34. Seahawks 38.
In 1969 the Rams also had a good team. Won the first 11. Lost the last 3. I would like to NOT go into the playoffs with 3 straight losses.

wvParticipantJust shooting from the hip here, but sometimes i think Stafford is too aggressive. Sometimes. I mean, he’s ALWAYS aggressive. Like Favre. Its just how he is. But sometimes — sometimes — when conditions are problematic, such as OLine injuries. Maybe the better approach would be, to run the ball, be conservative and not take chances, at least while the early part of the game unfolds. I dunno.
I love Stafford, but i think a guy like Brady or Montana had more arrows in their quiver. Favre and Stafford just seem like…if Martz were a QB.
I could be totally wrong about this. Just a fan-impression.
I’m definitely not ignoring the Oline issue. I’m saying a QB maybe needs to reign it in BECAUSE of the Oline issue.
The Carolina game and Falcon game have cost Stafford an MVP. And maybe even a Hall of Fame jacket. Damn. McCaffrey or Drake Maye are probly the top two choices now.

HramParticipantThat game made me unhappy.
Some excuses for the offense because of the offensive line. Defense should have played better.
If they can get healthy, they can still peek

And leave it all on the field.
It’s not over until the fat lady is over.

Yeah, its an annoying team. I think the 49er, Panther and Falcon losses were super-annoying. The Eagles and Seahawks are truly powerful teams and the Rams played up to their levels. Those losses were gut-wrenching — But those other 3….they need kicked in the ass.

TSRFParticipantThis looks like a flawed team, and it is a shame. Stafford has been plying his 37 year old ass off, probably to the point where the 38 year old ass is going to be an old, dead ass.
Sorry to say it, but our window with Stafford is closing quickly. If we don’t get there this year, we should probably cut bait and hone in on the next reclamation QB.

But every team is flawed. And until last night, it felt like the Rams were more unlucky in their losses than flawed. The Philly, SF, and Seattle losses all felt like the Rams got snakebit. The loss to Carolina for me was – like – shit happens. They had a bad game.
I think the Rams are the best team in the league, just as I said a month ago. I just don’t think they’re better by a country mile. I think they’re good enough to beat anybody anywhere. I just think winning 3 straight games in bad weather in the playoffs is unlikely. But if these games were in neutral, good weather sites, like college bowls are, I’d still lay on the Rams.
I do think Shanahan may be a better coach. He seems to be able to get more out of less than McVay does. I dunno. I mean… the Rams had 11 days to get ready for that game, and they came off a bad loss to Seattle. I think the Rams got outhustled by both Carolina and Atlanta. They are clearly better than those teams. By every measure. Except, perhaps sheer get-after-it-ness. I don’t think McVay stokes a hot fire under the team.

i do have one reason for hope. if lake can come back healthy. not sure where the tweet is, but there was a stat showing the defensive performance pre lake and post lake injury. if lake comes back healthy, i think the rams defense could start to perform much better.

Yes. Lake. Maybe Witherspoon (ie. him getting his game back).
Plus Jackson, Dotson, and Adams.
Higbee too maybe?

Yeah, there’s reason for hope. Lake and the rest coming back. Course we dont know just how ‘ready’ they will be when they come back. And Philly may get to rest their starters next week, I think.
At this point, I am not even rooting for the Rams to get TampaLina. If they are gonna have to win 3 road games, I’d just as soon start with the Champs and go from there. ‘Earn this.’ Ya know.

Something has to change. I do believe they will figure this out but that's unacceptable.

Of course there is hope. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Of course not.
As for starting with the Eagles instead of Tampalina, you’re crazy. Start under better conditions against a weaker opponent, and get everybody back in sync. Then go smash somebody else.
Also, on Saturday night in the Seattle/SF game, both McCaffrey and Smith-Njigba should tear hamstrings. Sometimes I don’t think you are even a real fan.

By Jove, I am not covetous for gold…if it be a sin to covet honour,
I am the most offending soul alive…
…proclaim it, Westmoreland, through my host,
That he which hath no stomach to this fight,
Let him depart;…He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian. He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say ‘To-morrow is Saint Crispian:’
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars.w

znModeratorCan you think of a single time that quoting Henry V on a message board was followed by the Rams hot-waxing their opponent?
Actually yes. Back in the early herd days, in 99, the night before the Rams played SF (the famous game 4 of that season), a bunch of posters were discussing the upcoming game, apprehensive because of the 17 straight losses to the 49ers but also hopeful because Warner looked for real, turns out Faulk could run up the middle (that’s an obscure reference I know), and they had whupped Atlanta 2 games before. ‘
Someone quoted the Saint Crispian speech from Henry V. Not everyone understood the context of the speech and asked about it. Some of us knew the play and the history so we pitched in. My bit was to explain the battle of Agincourt. That it looked beforehand as if the French had all the advantages, but the embattled English took it to em. I explained the role of the longbow and put it this way (cause I remember that discussion): the longbow advantage meant the English took to the air early and often.
We all know what happened that next day.
FRENCH CONSTABLE, ie. the 49ers: “Why, all our ranks are broke.”
