Rams have signed kicker Harrison Mevis to the practice squad

    Ari Meirov@MySportsUpdate
The #Rams are signing K Harrison Mevis — a.k.a. “The Thiccer Kicker” — who stands 6’0″, 242 lbs. He went 20-of-21 on field goals with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions.

    Nate Atkins@NateAtkins_
Appropriately, Harrison Mevis specializes in power: Most field goals of 50+ yards in Mizzou history, including the longest field goal in SEC history at 61 yards.

He was 20 of 21 in the UFL last year, including 13 of 14 from 40+ yards.

The 2024 UDFA has yet to kick in the NFL.

    Harrison Mevis

    College career

As a freshman, Mevis went 17/20 (85%) on field goals including a game winning field goal against Arkansas. He also went 28/28 on PATs as a freshman. As a sophomore, Mevis emerged as one of the premier place kickers in the nation, going 23/25 (93%) on field goal attempts. He also was a perfect 3/3 on field goals longer than 50 yards with a long of 56 yards. Mevis was also a perfect 41/41 of PATs. Following his sophomore season, Mevis was named a first team All-American.[5][6] On September 16, 2023, during the closing seconds of a game against 15th–ranked Kansas State, Mevis kicked a 61-yard field goal to win the game 30–27 for Missouri, breaking the record for the longest field goal in SEC history.[7] In his Senior Night game, he hit a 30-yard game winning field goal vs the Florida Gators to win 33–31.

    Carolina Panthers
Mevis signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent on May 10, 2024.[10] He was waived on August 11, 2024[11]

    Birmingham Stallions
On December 6, 2024, Mevis signed with the Birmingham Stallions of the United Football League (UFL).[12] In week 7, Mevis went 3-for-3 on field goal attempts with a long of 52 yards and was named the UFL special teams player of the week.[13] He converted 20 of his 21 attempted field goals, or 95.2%.

    New York Jets
On June 18, 2025, the New York Jets signed Mevis.[14] He was waived on August 26 as part of final roster cuts and re-signed to the practice squad the next day.[15][16] On September 16, Mevis was released.[17]

    Los Angeles Rams
On November 5, 2025, Mevis was signed to the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad.

He was nearly perfect in the UFL last season

After getting cut by the Panthers in 2024, Mevis landed in the UFL with the Birmingham Stallions. He was nearly perfect on field goal attempts, going 20-for-21. He won UFL Special Teams Player of the Week after making all three of his field goal tries in Week 7, including a 52-yarder.

On Jake. The Wiki ‘narrative’ is that he beat out Massey. But we all know Massey ascended into The Halls of Valhalla.

Wiki “…St. Louis / Los Angeles Rams
McQuaide was signed as an undrafted free agent by the St. Louis Rams after the 2011 NFL draft on July 29. As a rookie, he beat Chris Massey for the long snapper job.[3]…”

Just since 2022, Jake has played for,
    Dallas,
    Detroit,
    Chicago,
    Minnesota,
    Miami,
    Pittsburgh,
and now with the Rams again.

    We talked with Chase Blackburn:

    – The Rams took Josh Karty off kickoffs to get him to focus more on field goals. Seems to be differing opinions on whether the knuckleball approach has affected him
    – Issues were protection early, now operational
    – Kicker battle should close today

I asked Blackburn what gives him confidence the Rams can fix the field goal unit after 8 games and a number of issues:

“Practice. Practice. What we do, how we implement it, how they perform out here can breed confidence. Obviously, we’ve got to do it in a game.”

A couple of the issues: Alex Ward acknowledged he’s missed some snaps by having the laces in, and Josh Karty said he has to get a better trajectory on his kicks to get it over the line.

The Rams will have a new snapper on Sunday. We’ll see if it’s a new kicker, too.

I looked up Chase Blackburn on wiki. He’s not exactly the most experienced coach in the NFL.

If they dont get things fixed, i would guess McVay will not bring him back.

    Coaching career
    Carolina Panthers

During the off season before the 2016 season, Blackburn was brought in as a special teams coaching intern.[10] On August 14, 2016, Blackburn was promoted to the special teams assistant to special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey.[11]

After the firing of former head coach, Ron Rivera, Blackburn was retained by the Panthers’ new head coach, Matt Rhule. After the 2021 regular season ended, Rhule fired Blackburn from his coaching staff in January 2022.[12]

    Tennessee Titans

In March 2022, the Tennessee Titans announced the hiring of Blackburn as an assistant special teams coach.[13]
    Los Angeles Rams

On February 21, 2023, Blackburn was hired as a special teams coordinator by the Los Angeles Rams.[14]

Been watching the Rams since the mid-Cretaceous era, and dont remember any Ram coach replacing both the kicker and long-snapper in a move like this.

    Now watch it get worse.

I always assumed that the Rams would change one variable in an attempt to fix the kicking game, and I always assumed that Karty wasn’t the issue. It looked like the right side of the line was breaking down in some of those misses. I also thought that maybe Alex Ward snaps might be a fraction of a second too slow for the NFL, giving defenders the extra time they need to disrupt the kicking game. Ward also wasn’t much help in getting in the way of Jordan Davis in the Eagles game. Anyway, changing two variables wasn’t what I expected to happen. I like Karty, I assumed that he was a long term solution to the problems of 2023, it wouldn’t surprise me if he catches on somewhere else and ends up having a long career.

    Let’s go Mevis.

The Rams are sticking with Harrison Mevis at kicker against the Seahawks. He was 6 for 6 on extra points in his NFL debut, though he has yet to attempt a field goal.

Sean McVay has already said Joshua Karty is “not going anywhere” and “he’ll be on the roster” despite being benched.

The Rams can only elevate Harrison Mevis from the PS for 2 more games. After that, they have to make a decision.

    Nate Atkins@NateAtkins_
Harrison Mevis is the full-time kicker now. He’s 2 for 2 on field goals and 13 for 13 on extra points. Also handled kickoffs for the first time last week.

I thought Karty would be a fixture in LA for the next five years.

Strange case. I wonder what happened to him ?
