April 26, 2024 at 7:53 pm #150391znModeratorBlaine Grisak @bgrisakTSTThe Rams go pair Jared Verse with Braden Fiske from FSU in the second round. I LOVE this pick! Fiske dominated at the Combine in testing. Super quick off the ball. He and Kobie Turner are going to be an awesome tandem..Fiske was by second-highest graded fit for the Rams behind only Byron Murphy. Again, I LOVE this pick.April 26, 2024 at 7:53 pm #150392canadaramParticipant

Braden Fiske DL Florida St

STRENGTHS
At 300 lbs, Braden explodes off the line of scrimmage like a volcanic eruption. He can get into the backfield and disrupt the rhythm of a play, and pressure a quarterback quicker than an angry hippo. Braden is stout against the run and what he lacks in techniques, he makes up for with unwavering effort on every play. Braden has good foot speed for his size, and can be used on stunts. He has solid lateral agility to defend from hash mark to hash mark. He has the size and athletic talent to play more than one position on the defensive line and in different styles of lines. Braden works well with his linemates and understands what is expected of him on each play. His ability to stop the run and to rush the passer, along with his effort on every play should make him be considered as one of the top Defensive linemen in this draft.CONCERNS
Braden struggles to handle double teams. He also loses balance at times when rushing the passer when he explodes off the line in that angry hippo-like fashion. Braden also must improve in getting off his blocks when pass-rushing and develop some second moves. Nevertheless, these are all concerns that I’m sure Braden will address because of his excellent work ethic.BOTTOM LINE: 1.86
Braden has been invited to the Senior Bowl and it’s my guess his workouts will be similar to Aaron Donald’s when he came out. The difference is, Aaron was much more of a finished player and Braden still needs development. That being said, Braden has too much athletic talent to pass up for too long along. His effort on every play and the fact he should be able to play more than one defensive line position, has me thinking that teams might want to select him early in this draft. After all, he stops the run, and rushes the passer with effort on every play… what more can you ask from a 6’5” 300lb football player? My guess is that Braden might not have the statistics as Aaron Donald has had in his career but I am convinced, he will be an impact player and the type of player who is a 4th quarter player and a big game player. Just give him a little time in an NFL strength and conditioning program and a good position coach. Check Rob’s value board to see the most likely round Braden should be selected in, it should be interesting.- This reply was modified 6 months, 4 weeks ago by canadaram.
April 26, 2024 at 7:54 pm #150397InvaderRamModeratori like the pick. i liked orhorhoro more. but i still like this pick.
April 26, 2024 at 7:56 pm #150398canadaramParticipantPat Kirwin, loves the pick for the Rams. Loves his versatility and motor. Jim Miller also loves him. Missed only one game his college career. Kirwin called him a “Dan Campbell guy.”

This is a theme. Or 2 of them. Verse + Fiske =
1. position versatility;
2. relentless motor
They are re-populating the front 7. That was the most likely call before the draft, they would get at least 2 front 7 players early in the draft, and it’s happening.
April 26, 2024 at 7:58 pm #150400InvaderRamModeratori like cooper dejean as well, but i understand why they went dline. it’s just a bigger need at this point. dejean just went to the eagles.

Next year’s 2nd.
Gary Klein@LATimeskleinThe Rams sent pick Nos. 52 and 155 and a 2025 second-round pick to the Panthers so they could choose Braden Fiske at No. 39.April 26, 2024 at 8:08 pm #150403znModeratorSeattleRams@seattlerams_nflFiske was the fastest DT at the combine.Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueIf you have watched the way these two played off each other in college I think you’ll like this pick.the Rams came into today on the phones specifically about Fiske and knowing they’d need to trade up. Where that was – and therefore terms – determined by that run on DL..Rams Brothers@RamsBrothersBraden Fiske isn’t going to overwhelm you with pass rush moves. But he’s going to overwhelm you with his twitchiness and STRENGTH/POWER. 3-tech that’ll rotate with Kobie — and will own it when Kobie slides to NT. Home-run. 8.32 Fiske, Braden| Florida State| Michigan City, IN| Proj Rd: 2-3 Height: 6035| Weight: 292| 40: 4.78|Arm: 3100| Hand: 0938| Wingspan: 7634
Four year starter. Transfer from Western Michigan prior to the 2023 season. Three time all conference selection, including second team honours in 2023 all over the front for Florida State most commonly aligns as the 2i, But has also played 3-technique, 4i, and on the edge. Possesses good height and fringe weight with a well-built, lower body and notably, short arms low pad level off the ball and engages with violence. Consistently lends his hands inside to win leverage. Functional strength at the point of attack to create push into the backfield and stands offensive lineman up regularly. a tenacious, high effort player who fights his way into the backfield with power and violent hand swipes. Utilizes a plethora of past rush moves to win, including a lethal club move and bull rush. He will punch elbows when offensive lineman attempt to engage to create a clear path to the backfield. Excellent lateral agility on stunts. Quick to close on the quarterback with phenomenal explosiveness. Against the run he controls the point versus solo blocks while peeking into the backfield to find the ball carrier. in one gap schemes squeezes his way into his gap where he becomes a wrecking ball behind the line of scrimmage. Set the edge with low pad, strength and ankle flexion. Uses a strong anchor when taking on double teams and gives up little space with a strong lower half. Makes tackles with good form and strength when his name is called. Displays a strong motor in pursuit and is hungry to make plays. in his hips, hinders his ability to change direction and redirect. Fringe ability to extension and disengage from blocks due to poor arm length. Gets stood up regularly, where he can get, knocked off his platform and lose his balance; of concern for a two gap defensive scheme. Can develop into a valuable starter. 2023 stats: 43 T, six sacks, 5 QBH. OSR: 13/41.
April 26, 2024 at 8:16 pm #150405znModeratori understand why they went dline.
at 6’5, 300 Fiske can play 3/4 DE or DT, either in the 3 DL sets or in the 3rd down 4 DL sets.
Verse can line up at LB, DE (in 3rd down 4 DL sets) and DT.
Turner also lines up in different positions.
This is looking like a thing. Versatility in the front 7.
April 26, 2024 at 8:24 pm #150406znModeratorHere's closest thing you'll get to feeling what it's like trying to block Florida State's Braden Fiske.
Twitchy. Active hands. Relentless.

that’s why i like the pick. that’s why i liked orhorhoro. i thought he could similarly play different positions for the dline.
fiske is much faster and quicker than orhorhoro. while orhorhoro likely has more power and strength.
i trust the rams on this one though.
April 26, 2024 at 8:33 pm #150408HramParticipantSo far the draft makes sense to me based on needs and players available. Keeping the third this year and the draft that is deeper in positions me like wide receiver also makes sense. I wouldn’t be surprised to see them use a couple of their later, pics to move up to another player they want.
They will have a lot of young talent on the team a year from now and may not need as many picks next year to fill out the roster.
April 26, 2024 at 8:35 pm #150409znModeratorPer @PFF_Rams: Braden Fiske: 88.8 PFF Grade and 109 QB pressures since 2021.
Nearly 3 per game. As a 3-tech. Also racked up 29 TFL, 16 sacks, 2 FF and 3 PD over that span. pic.twitter.com/EBH6aY7TyP

April 26, 2024 at 8:37 pm #150410znModeratorBill Barnwell@billbarnwellTop half of the second round can be a bit of a sweet spot for teams trading up. Players deliver about 7% more than the cost to acquire themTeams trading up ended up with the best player in the deal 59% of the time (that only happens 44% of the time in the top 100 altogether)April 26, 2024 at 9:01 pm #150411znModeratorGiven the connection Verse and Fiske have, it's even easier to love this pick for the Rams. Fiske stood out at the combine and Senior Bowl. His power and high motor give him a chance to end up as the best defensive tackle in this draft class.

April 26, 2024 at 9:25 pm #150416znModeratorHEIGHT6’ 4’’WEIGHT292 lbsARM31’’HAND9 3/8’’.By Lance ZierleinOverviewDefensive tackle with below-average mass and length who makes up for it with above-average quickness and a constantly revving engine. Fiske uses sudden hands and nimble feet to whip single blocks. Once he finds daylight, he flies to whoever has the ball. He doesn’t have the anchor to sit down and muddy gaps, so scheme will be important for him. Fiske is a hustle rusher who can win quick or late if opponents don’t play with proper hand usage and match his energy. He lacks ideal measurables but has a chance to become an impact defender.
Strengths
- Plays with a fully fueled motor as both run defender and pass rusher.
- Leaps out of his stance and up the field to attack the pocket.
- Speedy, short strides allow for edge-to-edge rush and twist game potential.
- Creates decent point of attack pop with hip explosion into contact.
- Punches and plays around blockers in search of his next course of action.
- Activity level creates challenges for heavy, static defenders.
Weaknesses
- Bigger linemen can stick to him once they get their hands into him.
- Gets overtaken by hand resets from longer blockers.
- Solid play strength but gets pushed around by double-teams.
- Needs favorable early-rush positioning or ends up on the end of a punch.
April 26, 2024 at 9:47 pm #150417znModeratorAndrew Siciliano@AndrewSicilianoWhat kind of player is Brandon Fiske? He’s the first player in @seniorbowl history to CHANGE TEAMS the morning of the game. So many players dropped out by game day with injuries. Fiske won Defensive MVP of the game..Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue@dpbrugler calls Braden Fiske a “throwback brawler” who doesn’t wear gloves when he plays, noting agility, twitch and get-off even though he doesn’t have a huge arsenal of counters. Rams liked the nastiness, athleticism and inherited cohesion with Jared Verse.April 26, 2024 at 10:24 pm #150418znModeratorfrom https://cdn.theathletic.com/app/uploads/2024/04/15092257/TheBeast2024_MasterFile-9.pdf
Overall, Fiske doesn’t have a deep arsenal of counters if he doesn’t win early, but he already has a professional mindset and his twitchy urgency and steady play strength will translate well to the pro game. He projects as a rotational three -technique with versatility to move around an aggressive front.
April 26, 2024 at 11:25 pm #150437ZooeyModeratorI don’t love giving up next years’ 2nd in addition to this year’s plus change. 2 Seconds to move up a dozen places seems high, but I dunno. I always think the Rams give up to much, and get too little in return.
Whatever. If the guy turns out to be better than Aaron Donald, I won’t complain for very long.
April 26, 2024 at 11:26 pm #150440ZooeyModeratorI will say…and this is kinda funny…I watched a reel of Verse late last night, and I kept thinking, “That 55 guy sure is in the mix a lot.”
That’s kinda funny.
In fact, on the first coupla plays, I thought Verse WAS #55, cuz it was 55 that seemed to blow it up.

Fiske — Los Angeles gives up significant draft capital to move up and get their Aaron Donald “replacement,” pairing Fiske back up with college teammate Jared Verse. Fiske has limited length (31-inch arms), but he’s a very good athlete who has the quickness to get into the backfield regularly. Fiske’s grading profile did take a step back after transferring to Florida State, with his 73.9 PFF grade a dip from the 88.6 PFF grade he put up in his final season at Western Michigan in 2022.
