    There will likely be some re-shuffling happening on the Rams’ staff through the weekend alongside hires/departures. If you see a new name attached to a certain position, does not necessarily mean the previous assistant is leaving. Also going to move quick w combine/FA close.

    The #Rams requested to interview #LSU passing game coordinator Cortez Hankton for their vacant OC job, sources say. Sean McVay searching far and wide. Hankton now has the same job Joe Brady did at LSU, and before that, he led UGA to first in the SEC in yards per pass attempt.

    More movement from Fangio staff: Per sources, Chris Beake, a Denver assist coach since start of 2013 season, is new LBers coach for Super Bowl-champion Rams. Son of former Broncos GM John Beake, Chris was Broncos defensive pass-game coordinator in 2021.

    The Rams were able to block O’Connell and the Vikings’ interview request for DBs assistant Jonathan Cooley in effort to keep him on staff. Even more important with Evero departing.

    A coupla things I’d like to see the Rams do far more often:

    Promote existing staff, rather than going for external hires. Promote and hire more minority staff.

    Obviously, if they think they can find better coaches outside the organization than exist within it, they should go that route. But, given how many Rams coaches keep getting poached by other teams, it seems obvious they have a lot of talented folks on hand already.

    I like that McVay has already built up a “coaching tree.” It’s actually kinda surreal for someone so young. But I’d rather see more coaches stay with the Rams, especially minorities.

    I’m guessing they’re keeping Morris.

    I had doubts the first half of the season, but I think he’s a keeper now. I appreciate the way he adjusted at halftime in a few games – notably the Super Bowl where he changed the defensive front and poured a record-tying onslaught onto Burrow.

    These guys in the college ranks are interesting.

    Meanwhile, the #Rams are expecting assistant HC Thomas Brown to return to their staff, while assistant QBs coach Zac Robinson will stay in LA with a better title. That leaves the vacant OC spot, with Kentucky’s Liam Coen as a top candidate.

    SOURCES: Jeremy Springer will become the Rams assistant special teams coach. He was the STC at Marshall last season and had recently taken the Ole Miss special teams coordinator job. ESPN first reported the move.

    Olson was the Rams’ quarterbacks coach for one year in 2017 but was hired by the Raiders as their offensive coordinator in 2018. His role with the Rams is unclear right now, but he’ll be back on McVay’s staff.

    Los Angeles Rams expect several assistant coaches to be on the move after Super Bowl LVI

    Los Angeles Rams victories this season will result in losses after the season.

    Offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell is set to become the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings after Super Bowl LVI, and he is expected to take Rams tight ends coach/passing game coordinator Wes Phillips with him as his offensive coordinator or passing game coordinator, per league sources.

    Rams secondary coach/passing game coordinator Ejiro Evero is expected to become the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator, per sources.

    But the Rams have reinforcements on their mind. Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen, who already has worked as the Rams’ quarterbacks coach under Sean McVay, is a prime candidate to succeed O’Connell, per league sources.

    Former Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson, who also worked as the Rams’ quarterback coach in 2017, is likely to return to the staff and could garner offensive coordinator consideration or take over the same quarterbacks coaching job he once held with the organization, per league sources. Los Angeles has been eyeing him as an offensive coaching replacement for weeks; Olson’s job in Las Vegas has been filled with new head coach Josh McDaniels hiring former New England Patriots wide receivers coach Mick Lombardi as his new offensive coordinator, according to sources.

    Los Angeles also could decide to promote running backs coach Thomas Brown , who received head-coaching interviews, to be offensive coordinator, so there are options for the brain drain that the Rams are about to experience.

    Then again, the Rams already knew they would be losing assistant coaches and have been through this before. Of the 20 coaches that were on their staff from Super Bowl LIII, only six remain on staff.

    Assistants are about to leave Los Angeles for promotions — but more are expected to return to give the Rams the continuity and reliability they will need for the 2022 season.

    Greg Olson was an underrated part of the Rams early successes under McVay. Probably the least talked about of all the ex-QB coaches and OCs. Glad he’s coming back onboard. Have to feel he will be a veteran providing coaching experience on a relatively youthful offensive staff

    Greg Olson has a long, great resume and was instrumental to them taking off in 2017. This is his 3rd time with the Rams. The 1st was when he was the OC in 2006 & after a rough start finished strong that year w/ Bulger & Jackson.

    Another #Rams addition: Jake Peetz is reuniting with Sean McVay to join his offensive staff, source said. They were together in WAS in 2014, and the ex-#LSU OC has worked with Nick Saban, Jack Del Rio, Matt Rhule & McVay. QB Max Johnson threw for 27 TDs, 4th most in LSU history.

    Also worked with Ron Rivera in CAR as RBs coach. Not clear just yet what Peetz’s role will be (has NFL experience w QBs, WRs and RBs; college experience as OC) but Rams are clearly trying to load up offensive side. Big Rams opening currently is Wes Phillips’ TEs/pass coord job.

    This could be anything from asst WRs/QBs, QC role FWIW …as noted before staff still doing some shuffling on both sides.

    The Rams are expected to hire #Kentucky OC Liam Coen as offensive coordinator. Deal isn’t finalized but should be in the near future. Coen spent 2018-2020 with the Rams before joining the UK staff last season.

    The Rams have extended DL coach Eric Henderson, multiple sources said. Henderson, who is widely regarded among the top coaches at his position in the NFL, was in a contract year. Huge for the Rams to retain him as a player developer but also a big part of their pass-rush design.

    I’d be curious as to how many minority coaches McVay has hired over the years and how many he has on staff now.   I’d be curious how his numbers look compared to the NFL in general, etc.

    yeah.

     

    i was also hoping that he would hire a minority for the oc position.  if for no other reason than to see if said oc would get hired the following year for a hc position.  although in the end i want to see the best candidate get the job of course.

     

    supposedly, mcvay will be grooming brown for a coordinator position.  whether it’s here or somewhere else i hope he gets the chance and runs with it.  unbelievable that flores produces 2 winning seasons in a row and gets fired.

    Yeah.  At this point, I cringe every time a white coach is hired

    for ‘any’ coaching position in the NFL.

     

    I cant watch the tv-talking heads mangle this issue.   I have yet

    to hear ANY of them come out and straight up use the R word: Racism.

    They dance around it, and around it, and around it.

    It infuriates me, but I should be used to it, etc etc.

    Sean McVay confirms that Thomas Brown will move to coach tight ends this season, and will continue his role as asst. head coach. Brown had HC, OC interviews this offseason. Brown will also hire a new RBs coach.

    Rams to Interview College Star for RB Coach?

    Just weeks after their Super Bowl LVI win, The Los Angeles Rams have begun to shuffle their coaching staff to help replace outgoing staff.

    One of the major changes happening internally for L.A. will be on the offensive side of the ball, where running backs coach Thomas Brown is being promoted, and given “more responsibility within the offense and team“.

    As a result, the Rams have reportedly begun to search for a replacement for Brown, and are expected to interview TCU running backs coach, run-game coordinator and assistant head coach, Ra’Shaad Samples.

    A rising star in the college coaching ranks, Samples has ascended very quickly in his short coaching career, thanks in large part to his prowess on the recruiting trail, where he is considered one of the best in the entire country.

    Samples began his career as a student assistant with the Houston Cougars in 2016, before being hired by the Texas Longhorns as the assistant wide receivers coach in 2019.

    The 27-year-old was then moved on to SMU as an offensive assistant in 2019 and was promoted in each of his seasons with the Mustangs.

    It looks like the Rams have found a new running backs coach.

    According to multiple reports, Los Angeles is expected to hire Ra’Shaad Samples for the position.

    Samples, 27, had been hired in November to be TC’s assistant head coach and running backs coach under new head coach Sonny Dykes. He spent the 2019-2021 seasons with SMU, rising from an offensive assistant to running backs coach and assistant head coach.

    The Rams had a vacancy at RBs coach after promoting Thomas Brown to tight ends coach. Brown replaced Wes Phillips in that role, as Phillips left the organization to become the Vikings’ offensive coordinator under former Rams OC Kevin O’Connell.

    L.A. head coach Sean McVay had said that Brown was heading the search for a new running backs coach.

    You know what it looks like to me. Brown is being positioned to ascend to coordinator. Either with the Rams eventually (given how often their coordinators get hired away), or maybe he gets hired somewhere else before being promoted with the Rams. And of course being positioned to be a coordinator means being positioned to eventually become a head coach.

    that’s what it looks like to me.  mcvay thinks the tight ends coach is an important position.  mcvay himself started out as a tight ends coach.  wes phillips coached that position before moving onto an oc position.  and now brown.

    also.  i’d like to add that i got a really good feeling about this coen guy.  moreso than o’connell.  i don’t know why.  maybe it’s what coen did with kentucky last year.

     

    and if they ever hire greg olson, i’ll really be stoked.
