I think they can win in Tampa. Depends on the Tampa qb, I guess. Let’s say just say that as much as I see tremendous promise in Doug Williams, it may be a little soon for him to become a consistent playoff winner.

After that fiasco they had trying to make Steve Young a viable NFL QB, I don’t think there’s much to expect from them in that regard.

“Brady, 44, is older than the three opposing NFC head coaches remaining in the “playoffs. That’s right, the head coaches of the three other remaining teams on the NFC side are all younger than Brady. Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay is 35 and the San Francisco 49ers’ head man, Kyle Shanahan, is 42, the same as Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur” (ESPN).

    Brady is 44.

    That is really pretty ridiculous.

But George Blanda was 48 when he retired. 26 seasons.

I guess what sets Brady apart is his ‘mentalfootball processor.’
Some sorta brain-thing. An ability to process lots of kaleidoscopic football-info
really fast and then make a decisive, accurate throw.

So ya got your mental ‘processing’ part of it,
and the physical ‘accuracy’ part of it.

Added to that, you had Belichick for all those years,
and in Tampa you had a perfect storm of talent around him.

Then ya got his single-minded commitment to health, nutrition,
    film study, leadership, team-first-orientation.

Added to that you have some luck as far as
being injury-free for decades, in a rough sport.

I have always despised the man for his politics and
I still do, but I have also had to give him a
smile and a sigh and concede he is and has been the best
drop-back-QB I’ve ever seen. And I’ve seen Kurt, Marino,
    Staubach, Aikman, Stabler, Griese, Montana…

But the game is changing, and I dont even know if
Mahommes, Josh Allen, etc are playing the same position as Brady.
Tomlin was interesting the other day in an interview. Said he
valued a QB who could move. Said the game is changing.

To win a Ring, the Rams would have to go thru
Brady, then probly Aaron Rogers, then probly
    Mahommes/Josh Allen.

As good as Stafford is, and i do think he was an upgrade,
just look at those ‘other’ top-QBs. Damn.

It will take a team effort, obviously. Gonna have to be defense,
special teams and a running game and no stafford-panic/arrogant-throws.

Unlikely they get thru that murderers row of elite-QBs on playoff-teams.

Ah well. I cant pick against Brady at home. If it were in LA, I might,
but its in Tampa. No-one is more equipped to pick on the Rams Linebackers
and weak-links in the secondary than Tom Brady. He just aint gonna hold the ball.
    He just aint.

    Rams 20

    But the game is changing…

Ah well. I cant pick against Brady at home.

On the 2nd point, you famously picked the Cardinals to win, so you are out of the office pool already. It’s single elimination, and you’re a goner.

On the first point, I was thinking about that yesterday.

    Remember…

… when WRs would line up outside in a 3-point stance? They would put a hand in the dirt before the snap.

… when you first saw a tight end STANDING at the line of scrimmage? I mean…WTF?

… when the most common formation had a FB and a RB in the backfield. Sometimes parallel, sometimes in the I-formation.

… when the Dallas Cowboys OL would come to the LOS, then all stand up in sync, and plant themselves in a 3-point stance in unison?

… when you couldn’t make out some guys’ jersey numbers because of the mud and grass stains?

    … the single-bar and double-bar facemasks?

… the school marching band performance at halftime was actually televised?

… the only highlights we ever saw were narrated by Howard Cosell at halftime of the Monday night game?

… when networks all broadcast double-headers, so depending on where you lived, you had a buffet of games to watch without subscribing to some service?

Raheem Morris was once a young head coach for tampa. That fact escaped me.

    https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/some-of-tom-bradys-teammates-are-bracing-for-his-retirement-with-this-playoff-run-potentially-his-last/

“…with the Bucs facing a difficult task of keeping this team together in 2022, several of his teammates are prepared for this playoff run to be Brady’s last, sources said. ”

It’s so exciting. I can’t wait for tomorrow to watch Tom Brady’s final game as a professional football player.

And it is only fitting that his career should come to an end against the team he cheated against to launch his legendary career.

    from https://theathletic.com/3083161/2022/01/21/nfl-playoff-predictions-unplugged-3-scouts-pick-divisional-round-winners-including-a-bills-team-on-a-mission/?source=weeklyemail&campaign=602288

The Athletic circled back with three scouts who analyzed the wild-card round for their thoughts on who will win the next four games and why. All three were granted anonymity in exchange for their candor.

    Rams-Buccaneers

It’s odd in any game involving Tom Brady for the analysis not to focus on the seven-time champion. These scouts see the key matchups involving those players who are blocking and catching passes for the Buccaneers quarterback.

Pro Bowl right tackle Tristan Wirfs and center Ryan Jensen remain uncertain for Sunday after suffering ankle injuries in Tampa Bay’s otherwise straightforward wild-card win against Philadelphia. The injuries are poorly timed considering the Rams defensive front features all-world tackle Aaron Donald along with pass rushers Leonard Floyd and Von Miller.

The Rams hadn’t yet traded for Miller when they dumped the Bucs 34-24 in Week 3 as the defense sacked Brady three times and held Tampa Bay to 35 rushing yards. “I thought the Rams really brought (the energy) in the first meeting,” Scout 1 said. “They were hammering guys, lot of big hits.”

Tampa Bay’s offense took body blows in recent weeks at receiver after Chris Godwin’s ACL tear and Antonio Brown’s bizarre exit from the team. Mike Evans and tight end Rob Gronkowski remain, but “it’s a lot easier to game plan to stop two guys instead of four,” Scout 1 said.

That’s especially true for Los Angeles, which can have premier cornerback Jalen Ramsey shadow Evans. Meanwhile, lead running back Leonard Fournette (hamstring) remains on injured reserve.

“I don’t know if they’re gonna have enough weapons or if they will be able to consistently score in this game,” Scout 1 said.

The Rams kept the scoreboard operators busy in Monday’s 34-11 romp against the Cardinals. QB Matthew Stafford dazzled, running back Cam Akers delivered in his stunning recovery from an Achilles tear over the summer, and wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. caught his sixth TD pass in nine games since a midseason trade.

Beyond the individual talent, Scout 3 likes the matchup for the Rams offense because of “how they move the pocket,” which should limit Tampa’s blitzes.

There just may be no accounting for Tampa Bay linebacker Devin White, who was arguably the Buccaneers’ top player during their 2021 Super Bowl run. “If he plays at the level that he played in the playoffs last year for them, that erases a lot of the stuff that the Rams will want to try to do,” Scout 3 said.

Tampa Bay also has experience on its side.

Scout 3: If (Wirfs and Jensen) are healthy, “I still think that Tampa wins a really close game. … Those big moments from last year, that’ll carry the day for them.”

    Scout 1: Rams
    Scout 2: Rams
    Scout 3: Bucs

I don’t see TB winning, even if Fournette plays. Tampa – if they are better than the Rams which is questionable – are not better with 4 of their WRs out, including 2 of their best 3. And their #2 RB is officially out. If Fournette can’t go, and with 2 stating OL hobbled (or out), I just can’t see how TB is going to pressure the Rams’ defense much. If Fournette, Wirfs, and Jensen are OUT, I don’t think Tampa puts up much more than 10 points. At least on offense.

And the Rams put up 34 on the Bucs last time they played. Of course, none of those points roll forward, and the Rams have lost Whitworth and Woods since. But they’ve got Noteboom and OBJ, and the falloff there is not a game-changing drop. Plus they have added Akers and (basically Michel). Barring a meltdown, the Rams are going to win this game.

And if SF pulls off a miracle, I think the Rams are going to the SB.

I don’t love the matchup in GB if that happens (the high is projected to be 23 degrees next Sunday), and I don’t much fancy meeting TN (which is underrated, imo), or Buffalo. But… you know… one game at a time, and all that rot, right-o! Jolly good.

I dunno. I keep seeing vid after vid talking about the Bucs OLine injuries.
    Nothing. Absolutely nuthing on Whitworth.

Its a HUGE loss. The guy is more than his blocking. He’s a leader, a force.

I think both teams might lose, sunday.

Man, I have never had my script for the playoffs followed like this ever in my life.

The two teams I feared the most both lost today, and if the Rams win tomorrow, they get to host the Championship against the 9ers in their 15th consecutive game, and a gimpy Deebo Samuel.

    I’m totally down.

Take care of business tomorrow, and let’s go.
