It doesn’t look good for the Rams even IF they run the table. The numbers and match-ups work against them. They need a lot of help AND need to finish without a loss.

How do I know this?

ESPN has a thing called “Playoff Simulator”

It allows you to pick games and the playoff standings update automatically.

I picked all the games all the way to the end–picking the Rams each week to get them to 10-6.

I picked the other games as I thought they would realistically end. Winners/losers.

At the end of it all 10-6 is not good enough.

Four teams: Detroit, Arizona 9ers and Philly all finish 11-5 and Philly misses out. The woeful NFC South sends the 6-10 Falcons to the playoffs. the two bye teams are Green Bay(13-3) and Dallas (12-4).

10-6 doesn’t get it.

Now of course–my projections could be wrong–maybe Detroit or Dallas go on losing streaks–who knows? but the point is that it just doesn’t look great for a 10-6 record to make the playoffs–and even getting that would be a feat.

Try it yourselves–maybe the numbers will work better and I’ll take that.

But no matter what–if the Rams run the table that would be fantastic. After that–the chips will fall where they may.

As for now? I’ll take a win against the Chargers.

I didn’t go to that much effort before coming to the same conclusion. I just looked at the standings and saw that the Rams lost head-to-head to a bunch of the teams ahead of them in the standings, and saw the difference in wins/losses, and realized the odds are quite remote.

And that’s without even considering the odds of the Rams ending the regular season on a 7-game winning streak with the last game in notorious Seattle where the Hawks will certainly have something on the line.

It isn’t happening.

I’m very sorry, Zooey–but if you don’t put it through the playoff machine it isn’t real. Those are simply your opinions. I have hard data. I have charts and stuff. And there is always the famous PA Ram “hunch”. I am bringing real solid stuff to the table here—and if anyone wants stock tips I can find some internet thing to help me pick those too.

I can go onto the internet and take scientific polls that will tell me what kind of rock band I am.

It’s all there in this crazy cyberspace thing. Before that all we had was the Magic 8 Ball.

But anyway–yeah–I agree with you. Playoffs are a fantasy. But a winning season?

Very possible.

And that would be pretty cool.

I’m calling 9-7 right now. They will lose another game, no doubt. Probably something stupid, like to Oakland at home. But, this team will kill with Hill, win with Quinn, give spankin’s with Jenkins, spring free with ‘Tree, get cray-cray with Tre Tre, give a shit with Britt, cook with Cook, and so forth.

But, yeah, the postseason remains a dream.

Playoffs is not the important thing. Learning how to win is.

If they can go 9-7 or 10-6 and not make the playoffs well, I am happy because now we are seeing some consistency and that bodes well for the 2015 season. If we can see the Rams grow up and become a winning team, than just missing the playoffs is okay.

If the rams run the table to end up 10-6 it would be possible to make the playoffs. I ran through it and san fran ended up 10-6 but rams have the tie breaker, seattle ended up 8-8, the biggest obstacle is dallas they have to end up at 9-7 for the rams to make it.

If they do all that cool, but I am not going to get all invested in the idea. If nothing else that scenario includes beating Seattle in Seattle, and while I really want to see that, this might not be the year.

This is a strange season anyway. To me, lots and lots to build on.

Obviously no playoffs this year. I think we’re probably looking at 8-8, gentlemen.

One game the Rams could point to as their “superbowl” would be the Seattle game. How cool would it be to sweep the Superbowl champs?

Especially if the Seahawks need a win in that game to make the playoffs.

I want them to make Pete Carroll cry.
