    Gurley’s New Rushing Style Works

    I see a more patient runner who reads the blocks before taking an angle ala L Bell. Muscling through the trenches waiting for a big play. Doesn’t seem as fast or as strong but whatever changes he has made are working.

    Interesting stat I found on Troy Hill while looking for something else on Pro Football Reference:

    Hill has been targeted on 55 pass attempts this year, with 26 completions (47.3%). It’s rare to see a corner under 50%. For context, Stephon Gilmore is 50%. Jalen Ramsey is 67.2%.

    Now obviously, the better the corner, the better the receiver in most games, but overall Troy Hill’s consistency has been a pleasant surprise for me since the Rams’ secondary shuffle.

    Three teams completely changed the way their defense performed by trading for a player in the secondary this year.

    Baltimore Ravens – CB Marcus Peters
    Pittsburgh Steelers – S Minkah Fitzpatrick
    Los Angeles Rams – CB Jalen Ramsey

    Not sure how much is attributed to them, but wild

    Obviously, there’s more to it than just one player (rest of defense is playing better), but it’s crazy the immediate change in production these teams had right after they acquired said player.

    Can’t really remember anything like this before.

    Aaron Donald’s continued dominance
    Another year, another season of Aaron Donald dominating. Barring voter fatigue, Donald could be well on his way to becoming the first player in NFL history to win DPOY in three consecutive seasons. No other player stands so far ahead of his peers at his position. Donald leads the NFL in pressures (60) for the second-straight season — remarkable for his position — as he has 24 more pressures than any other interior DL. Donald has generated a pressure on 14.0% of his pass rushes, which is the sixth-highest rate in the NFL (min. 200 pass rushes) and stands head and shoulders above the next-closest interior DL (Gerald McCoy: 11.4%). To put this in perspective, consider the base rates: Defenders aligned as interior D-linemen generate pressure on 6.6% of their pass rushes compared to 9.7% when aligned on the edge. The key to Donald’s success? His patented burst off the ball. He has a pass rush get-off of 0.83 seconds (the average time it takes him to cross the LOS).

    “Anytime I say something to him or relay something to him, even in the middle of the game, he’s on top of it the next series,” Weddle added. “He’s been not only one of the best rookies, but over the last 10 games, one of the best safeties out there. His tackling ability, his covering, his playmaking. Could’ve had three or four picks if he could catch, but those times will come. The sky’s the limit for him, I’m just happy that I can share the field with him and help him as much as I can.”

    Gurley stiff-arm vs. Seahawks made me think of this quote from Maurice Jones-Drew earlier this season: “He’ll stiff-arm a guy for 15 yards while he’s running full speed. The guy will try to dive at his legs and he’ll just run them into the ground.”

    Ive just noticed the rams have never had a star tight end, i really cant think of one that was a bonafide stud at that position, oline, QB, RB which are many, Wr as well but not at tight end. If im wrong let me know

    and he doesn’t turn 22 until next week.

    young and full of potential. it’ll be a treat to see him develop. can’t wait until jj comes back healthy next year too.
