ZooeyModeratorThere’s a stat called NFL Team Red Zone Scoring Percentage (TD only) For years the Rams under McVay lagged in the mediocre range with those stats. This year they’re 7th. That’s the best the Rams have done with this stat under McVay.
Now all they have to do is sign Cris Carter.
ZooeyModeratorThe upshot of all that is – as always – “Screw Minnesota.”
Which has really been my mantra since 1969 anyway.
ZooeyModeratorIsn’t there a Brock Purdy Fan Club meeting you’re missing somewhere?
I heard that it’s being held in New Hampshire, but that’s none of my business.
ZooeyModeratorGiven their cupcake schedule, for all practical purposes the Packers are in. That leaves the Rams, Seahawks, and Vikings battling for the final playoff spot. The Rams and Seahawks will both likely finish 9-8, but the Rams own the tiebreaker. The Vikings beat the 49ers but lost to the Bears so it’s hard to know what to expect from them. They get Jefferson back next week but things are still shaky at QB. At least at the moment, the Vikings own the tiebreaker over the Rams based on a better conference record. However, they could easily lose 3 or more of their final 5 games to finish 8-9 or worse.
So…”Blah, blah, blah.”
Did I get that right?
ZooeyModeratorDemarcus Robinson stepped up on Sunday and had his best game as a Ram yet. I’d like to see the veteran continue in the WR rotation DRob had clutch catches on crucial scoring drives and added to the board himself with a nice out route for the score
Which leads me to ask a question I brought up during the Chat: “Where did Atwell go?” I don’t remember seeing him after his only catch.
ZooeyModeratorAkers’ career so far has been doomed by injuries and an apparently poor team work ethic.
Akers is aching. So Akers didn’t get acres, instead he got achers.
That’s an automatic 2-week suspension from the board, effectively immediately.
ZooeyModeratorBrought to you by my petty side:

This is immediately following JJ’s INT.
ZooeyModeratorThe Rams averaged 14.25 points per game, and were 1-3 without Williams.
With Williams, the Rams have averaged 26.375/game, and are 5-3. It appears that he is a difference-maker in this offense.
Of course, they were undefeated with Cam Akers starting at RB. Akers, btw, in case you missed it like I did, is on IR with MN because of an achilles injury in Week 9. He finished the season with 167 yards (2.78/carry) and 2 TDs. Akers’ career so far has been doomed by injuries and an apparently poor team work ethic.
ZooeyModeratorThe game was closer than the final score. Cleveland kind of folded up like a cheap lawn chair in a hurricane for whatever reason.
The INT was huge. It just seemed like Cleveland lost the will to fight after that.
The first 2/3 of the game just looked like the tight game I expected.
The Rams are playing into December, and that’s very cool. I’d like to think that they have a chance against the Ravens, but they don’t. I’ll be happy if the Rams make a game of it.
ZooeyModeratorI apologize, Zooey, it looks like I stepped on your response to Invader. I was just drunk on enthusiasm for Dotson’s ascent.
Well, I spoke to my attorney about that, and he said that since you are the one who posted the tweet with that information originally, and I merely quoted it, it didn’t matter that invader addressed me with the question. You arguably had a priori rights to answer it.
So I was going to just drop it. But since I now have your apology in hand, indicating you know you did something wrong, I will call him back on Monday.
In the meantime, you will see that my answer appeared in two forms, 4 hours apart. That’s because the one that appears later didn’t post on account of having too many nested quotes, or images, or whatever hangs up posts, so I just revised the post to reduce the amount of code, and the second post got through immediately.
I just mention that in case you would like to delete one of them. (My attorney and I will be very interested to see which one you delete).
ZooeyModeratorWell….they need to trade away the 1st round pick. Just on principle.
Fine by me.
Last time they had a 1st round pick, they wasted it on Jared Goff, who’s not even on the Rams anymore. Languishing away in Detroit, or some other backwater NFL town, last I knew.
ZooeyModeratormong rams olinemen or all olinemen?
That’s the highest score of any offensive lineman. Only Penei Sewell (OT) Lions has the same score: 88.9.
Every other OL in the league has a lower rating than the two of them.

ZooeyModeratorRams lead the all-time series 13-11-0.
The Rams have won 5 of the last 6 meetings with their last loss to the Browns in 2007.
They played each other 3 times for the NFL Championship. The Browns won twice.
That’s my sideline report.
ZooeyModeratorDeacon Jones – 173.5
Kevin Greene – 160
Jack Youngblood – 151.5
Coy Bacon – 130
Kevin Carter – 104.5
Fred Dryer – 103
Merlin Olsen – 94
Leonard Little – 87.5
Robert Quinn – 80.5
Larry Brooks – 74.5
Aaron Donald – 72
Chris Long – 70
Here’s the thing about that.
Youngblood, Dryer, Olsen, and Brooks played on the same line. As most people here know.
ZooeyModeratorNow Sandra Day O’Connor and – no lie – I thought she was already dead, but seems the reaper is on a roll now.
ZooeyModeratorYeah, this could just be an ugly, low-scoring game.
Maybe the defense will score. Have they scored this year? I don’t think so.
Whatever. I think this is going to be hard to watch.
ZooeyModeratorI dunno, either. I know some coaches have placed a big emphasis on stripping the ball etc., but I’m not sure that accounts for it. Sometimes I wonder if TOs are just fluky like the weather. Sometimes they go your way; sometimes they don’t.
But I would think that pressure on the QB would increase INTs because the timing gets thrown off. I’d be very surprised if there isn’t a strong statistical correlation between QB pressures and INTs.
I generally pay no attention to mock drafts, especially since the Rams haven’t had a 1st round pick since the Jeff Fisher era, but I peeked at one yesterday, and they had the Rams taking an OT because “their tackles have been terrible this year.” Which is news to me.
The Rams will add to both lines. Which line is “priority #1” will depend on who is available, I would think, not which need is “greater.” They get the best players they can.
And so far, McSnead has been better at that than anybody since whoever built the Rams in the early 70s, imo.
ZooeyModeratorBut this year, he has won me over. He has done a lot with what he’s had to work with.
Yeah, I was expecting a bit of a shit show defensively.
The rookies have produced, Witherspoon grew from “also-ran” into a top flight corner, and the defense has done a good job.
They aren’t getting enough TOs. They are dead last in fumble recoveries in the league, second-to-last in INTs, and last in the league in TOs overall.
They are 22nd in sacks.
In spite of that, they are 15th in points allowed.
So…they need more pressure. More pressure = more sacks, more TOs, more 3-and-outs, and fewer points. Nothing new in that formula, of course, but my point is that in spite of a lack of pressure and TOs, the defense is holding up pretty well. Get some maturity out of Young, and add someone for the other side, and the Rams are in business. I know they’ve had their eye on Burns for a couple of years.
They did so well this year with the draft and cheap additions (Witherspoon, Dotson) who played above their track record, that the Rams’ rebuild is in really good shape.
ZooeyModeratorYour new owner of the Arizona Cardinals
RB Kyren Williams is the first player in NFL history to play in consecutive games against the same opponent and have 150-plus scrimmage yards in each of them. #RamsHouse @Kyrenwilliams23 pic.twitter.com/AznE3YGz1W

ZooeyModeratorAccording to PFF, OL Kevin Dotson is currently tied for the top-graded offensive lineman (88.9)
And they got him for nothing.
Hopefully, he will re-sign.
ZooeyModeratori’m convinced that with him, stafford, higbee, coop, nacua, atwell, and a blue chip offensive tackle this could be a top notch offense.
Me, too, although so far the Kupp/Nacua pairing has not produced anything special.
Sample size: small. Plus injuries in places. So we are far from losing hope.
ZooeyModeratorWell, now it’s Dick Cheney’s turn.
ZooeyModeratorI think many Rams fans are underestimating how tough the Browns are. Great defense, really physical offensive and defensive lines, and the Rams usually don’t play well against physical teams (see the last 8 or 9 games against SF). I don’t care who their starting QB is – beating them will be a tall task.
It’s the Browns. The Cleveland Browns.
It’s not that they aren’t capable of beating the Rams. It’s just that they aren’t capable of it.
ZooeyModeratorWelp, saw quite a bit of the Dallas/SD game tonight, and I must say…those are two pretty mediocre football teams, if this was representative.
That post didn’t age particularly well.
ZooeyModeratorPlayoff hopes are over if they lose to the Browns. It’s a long shot anyway, as the Rams have to win at least 4 of their 6 remaining games.
We can chalk up 2 losses before kickoff: BAL and SF.
That leaves them no margin. Cleveland and NO are going to be struggles.

ZooeyModeratorIf you had told me before the game that Kupp would finish with 18 yards/0 TDs, and Nacua with 27 yards/0 TDs, I would not have expected a game dominated by the Rams which was basically over by halftime.
It wasn’t a pretty game, but this may have been an important game in the Rams’ development.
It’s only the Cardinals, but the Rams just thumped an NFL team the old fashioned way, with rushing and TEs. That bodes well. When Stafford, Kupp, and Nacua figure out how to co-exist, this offense will again be near the top of the league.
And Kyren Williams looks like the Rams’ next star.
Props to Atwell for a couple of nice grabs.
And the Browns game is winnable, imo. And they may need that game to make up for the Steelers game. DeShaun Watson and Nick Chubb are out. Amari Cooper and Myles Garrett are questionable.
The Rams need to win 4 of the remaining 6 games to have a shot at a wildcard date. With the Ravens and 9ers both on the schedule, the rest of the games are kinda “must win,” though I think the Steelers and Packers probably cost the Rams that extra week of football.
November 22, 2023 at 9:26 am in reply to: some stuff about whatzhizzname, that Donald Aron guy #146933
ZooeyModeratorHis planned veteran rest days — which were installed well before Donald even hit his prime years — originated from an effort by coaches to get offensive linemen productive practice work without worrying about him on every play.
This was my favorite bit from that excellent piece that was a joy to read.
ZooeyModeratorRams Brothers@RamsBrothersDerion Kendrick was the 212th pick in the 2022 draft (6th round). His numbers from yesterday are pretty staggering as a 2nd year guy. Per @PFF: targeted 8 times, allowed 3 receptions for 21 yards. Had the game-winning INT and allowed a 6.3 passer rating. Did he earn a second chance in your eyes? Durant was out and DK had a ton of responsibility with Seattle’s WR corpsI don’t know what to make of Kendrick. I think it would be great if he would eliminate bonehead penalties, though. I thought the roughing call against him yesterday was a bad call, but not terrible. It was borderline, but I thought it was “necessary.” The guy wasn’t going down, and DK had to increase his leverage and force.
Taunting after the INT, though. That was inexcusable, and the guy just seems to have a knack for getting flagged.
But he’s also fairly effective, seems to me. I don’t have his rankings in front of me, so I dunno. But it seems to me that his mistakes have come at bad times, so that magnifies it when he gets beaten. I think if he would just knock off the penalties, he would seem worthy of being a starter.
