McVay on Staley, from here: http://theramshuddle.com/topic/mcvay-9-14-transcript/

“I thought he had a great feel for the game, his composure and his ability to see things in live action is I think one of his special traits. That was definitely indicative last night of some of the decisions he made”

I like the sounds of that. Ability to see things in live action. Adjusting on the fly.

Not that i care what the National Celebrity-Media thinks, but I noticed in every vid i watched, the celebrity-pundits talked about what Dallas did right and what Dallas did wrong, and what the future of DALLAS might be.

yeah. i have seen the rare tweet where someone recognizes the rams for what they did.

This is the guy who founded Football Outsiders:

    Aaron Schatz@FO_ASchatz
I think too many people are analyzing last nights game as “what’s wrong with Dallas” and not enough are asking “did we underrate the Rams?”

    DEFENSIVE MVP OF THE WEEK

DI Aaron Donald, Los Angeles Rams

Donald destroyed the Cowboys offensive line. He generated a total of 10 pressures, which was four more than any other player at the position on the week. Donald also won on 36% of his pass-rush reps — 10 percentage points higher than anyone else. That helped him produce the highest pass-rush grade for the week (90.8; second was Chris Jones at 78.9). On top of that, he provided great run support, as his 77.4 grade was the third-best at the position. That right there is what we call a game-wrecker.

    from PFF: https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-week-1-pff-team-of-the-week-key-takeaways-weekly-awards-and-more

DALLAS WON’T GET TOO FAR IF ITS OFFENSIVE LINE REPEATS ITS WEEK 1 PERFORMANCE

Led by Aaron Donald, the Los Angeles Rams caused Dak Prescott to play under fire throughout their Week 1 matchup. He was under pressure on 19 dropbacks, the second-most of the week. When a quarterback is under pressure that much, not many good things are going to happen for the offense. Prescott did make a great play under pressure early in the second quarter to CeeDee Lamb, but that was just about the only positive outcome on those plays.

And that number of pressured dropbacks could have been much higher had Prescott not had so many short, quick throws to avoid it. He did make all these requisite throws when free from pressure, as he was the sixth-highest graded quarterback of the week on such plays.

Because of Donald and the offensive line not having its best day, we didn’t get to see Prescott uncork many downfield throws. His deep ball was the backbone of his success last year, but he threw a pass 10 or more yards downfield on just over one-fifth of his passes (third-lowest rate of the week) in Week 1.

As a whole, the Dallas offensive line was the third-lowest graded unit of the day and lost the third-most reps. Tackle Tyron Smith and center Joe Looney didn’t play poorly, as they earned pass-block grades of 77.3 and 69.1, respectively, but the other three (Connor Williams, Zack Martin and Terence Steele) offensive linemen struggled. All three were either beaten by a defender or allowed a pressure on six or more pass-block reps. While the Cowboys won’t face a player like Donald every week — and Martin is likely to bounce back, given he was the highest-graded active guard in pass protection from 2014-19 — Williams and Steele are two reasons to worry, especially with facing Grady Jarrett in Week 2.

Sean McVay on the @Rams NFL health coming out of Week One win:

Came out of it clean; don’t expect anyone’s practice plan to be altered this week.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Rams HC Sean McVay said TE Gerald Everett “got his back banged up a little bit” against Cowboys but eventually returned to game.

    “He’ll be ok,” McVay said.

    Joe Curley@vcsjoecurley
Sean McVay on using Cooper Kupp as a punt returner after the contract extension, “The more touches that he gets the better for our football team.” Says Kupp will be punt returning going forward
    @usatodaynfl

    Lindsey Thiry@LindseyThiry
Since reviewing film, Sean McVay says Morgan Fox and Sebastian Joseph-Day were real bright spots last night vs. Cowboys.

Sean McVay says he was getting blasted all day about his lack of face covering (mask on chin) during last night’s game, but takes responsibility for not following the protocol and says he’ll do better.

    alexander spelman@aspelman1
Rams were also pretty good at avoiding third and long by getting positive plays early. I count 14 3rd down plays where they had 5 yards or less to go

    Jourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigue
The Rams will travel day-before for both back-to-back road trips the next two weeks. Initial plan was to stay on the East Coast for two weeks, but, COVID.

    Stu Jackson@StuJRams
Rams HC Sean McVay said Cam Akers starting at RB was reflective of team going into the game thinking he would get a little bit more work on early downs than Malcolm Brown.

While it was Brown with the big night, “Cam is going to continue to be a big part of our offense.”

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — There are no protests over racial injustice or police brutality here, and the only fires or violence Wendy Williams encounters are on television and online. Yet the spotty images of unrest in faraway Portland, Ore., and Kenosha, Wis., linger in her mind.

Yeah there’s a lot of lies and propaganda about that. But there always is. That stuff is only a danger if we start believing it ourselves. As in–end a peaceful movement against racial injustice because some tv images of a handful of places are negative.

We can’t do anything about the people tv news lies to, W. But we can know the truth ourselves.

    As in:

Carson Wentz has 19 fumbles in 17 games since the start of 2019. That’s an insane amount and it’s a disturbing trend because he’s just not getting better at avoiding sack fumbles by holding on to the ball too long. #Eagles

The quick passing game resulted in the Rams allowing a pressure rate of just 8.8% while the Cowboys gave up a horrendous 33.3%.

Rams safety Jordan Fuller says he was told last week that he would start the season opener. A sixth-round pick, he said he came into camp just wanting to compete. He played 99% of the snaps last night.

Rams S Jordan Fuller on his NFL dreams materializing as a starter in his first pro game:

“I can’t really explain it, honestly. All I can say is I really felt prepared for the moment, just coming from Ohio State and also playing against our offense every single day in camp.”

Although the Rams defense played well in the second half, that last defensive stand really stood out. The constant pressure on Dak was tremendous on that final stand. The defense looked dominant and fresh. I didn’t see the dreaded prevent defense, thank goodness. I knew Donald would be fit and ready to play to the end even without preseason games, but the rest stepped up too. The Rams as a whole looked as prepared as any other team I saw play yesterday.

As the final minutes ticked down I felt confident they would secure the win. That was not the case last year.

And the defense was fresh because they got a little help from the offense. The offense dominated the time of possession. (Hopefully next week they get touchdowns in the Red Zone instead of field goals.) The offense dominated the time of possession because the oline performed well and McVay called a good game. The oline’s performance stands out to me and I think they can build on it. I’m also not as concerned about the linebackers or pass rush after this game. Going forward I can’t wait to see how the defense plays with a larger lead during the game.
