What worked in the second half was (1) not going empty (2) play action (3) screens. If the game plan was beating the 3rd ranking blitzing defense with hot routes, that’s a terrible game plan. No matter who is the QB. Hot routes on designed pass plays are for unexpected pressure. Throwing balls to hot routes in the face of an expected unblocked man is a 50/50 scenario, unless you can generate space/time with your legs.
The first turnover occurred on a totally unnecessary deep pass attempt on 2nd and 2 where the Rams ran an empty set with 4 receivers running deep routes and a single receiver running a hot route. The Dolphins got unblocked pressure with 3 linemen and 3 Miami players were covering the hot route. (1) that’s an excellent defensive play call, (2) there was still 23 seconds on the play clock when that ball was snapped. Nobody changed the play into something that would actually work. That play was doomed to fail.
I could see letting Goff throw in shotgun empty set against a bring the house blitz once to see what he would do. But we did it at least 6 or 7 times. Tempting fate at that rate. Call a timeout if you have you but you can’t let that play go forward.

Continuing his late-coming Hall of Fame candidacy, Andrew Whitworth has had his own challenging lineup. Because the Rams offense is a bit more formulaic, it requires substantial pocket protection and as little chaos as possible. Whitworth’s presence is huge for that effort and he might still be the best pass protector in the NFL despite nearly retiring last offseason.

It should be no surprise that Aaron Donald has made the list. He’s been remarkable against the run and leads all defenders — at any position — in quarterback pressures. His ability to appear, suddenly, in the backfield has complicated offensive plans, and he does it despite high double-team rates. Donald is probably the best player in the NFL and is playing like it this season.

Jalen Ramsey has done an excellent job taking advantage of the pressure Donald provides up front and has closed down on high-level receivers on a consistent basis, getting punished for only two big mistakes all year. But to make it have an obvious, can’t miss impact, it has to go Big. Really big. It can’t be mush. It can’t be meh. It can’t be a bit corporate, a bit non-profit, cuz the former will water down the benefits of the latter.
Well long term goals aside (ie. reform v. revolution aside) we already did this. And it worked, though it was a racist version so didn’t work for everyone. Talking about the FDR New Deal plus the GI Bill (both of which were deliberately tailored to be exclusionary in racial terms). So yeah you can have things like that which as we all know, is basically all that Bernie was trying to do–consolidate, protect, and extend the New Deal.
And it wasn’t dismantled by capitalism per se, it was dismantled by narrowly sectarian political and economic neoliberal policies which favored certain constituencies and pretty much screwed everyone else. Leaving the everyone else to blame people of color, liberals, gub’mint, and so on.
Again, the long term aside….right now, are there New Deal policies that would improve the quality of life, along with Green New Deal policies (which themselves have the potential to create jobs and bolster the economy). We all know what that list would look like, including MFA.
I mean I think we all agree with that.
And we know it ain’t gonna happen under Biden.

Disillusionment with the American Dream accompanied by placing the blame on liberals.
Well except I wouldn’t call it disillusionment with the dream…I mean it is that but that doesn’t name the real thing. It’s being systematically robbed, AND not seeing that they are being robbed.
And it’s not just liberals, it’s immigrants, people of color, alternative sexualities of all kinds, muslims…
Capitalism leads to Inequality,
Yet there are capitalist economies in countries practicing social democracy that don’t have the kind of economic inequalities we do. This might get us into the reform v. revolution thing, but, there is no inevitable reason why our economic is so foundtionally dedicated to economic inequalities.

The economy has been re-structured to deepen inequality, and this robs people of the quality of life they were once used to.
But typical of the USA going back decades and decades, when that happens, people can’t see it for what it is…and then the political establishment preys on their fears and endorses their scapegoating. The end result is that the people responsible for the bad economic policies keep getting elected, and do more of the same.
Which isn’t hard to do because it’s both parties. Maybe to somewhat different extents. But at the end of the day…not THAT different.
