It seemed the Los Angeles Rams offensive staff’s plan all offseason was to roll with Austin Corbett at the starting center position and Bobby Evans as his replacement at right guard. That was the belief up until Monday, when Brian Allen had clearly assumed the role of starting center, with Corbett back at right guard, as he had been all of 2020.

The Rams released their unofficial depth chart on Tuesday, with it listing Corbett at starting center and Allen on the second team, but I wouldn’t put any stock into that. Head Coach Sean McVay appeared on Rams camp live today with LA Rams broadcaster J.B. Long and was asked “Do you have more answers or questions regarding who is going to snap that first football to Matthew Stafford against the Chicago Bears?”

Here was McVay’s response:

I think we are starting to get some clarity on that, Brian Allen is really starting to assert himself and Austin Corbett has been outstanding at the right guard position. Bobby Evans is another guy we expect that if need be, he can play at a high level; but Brian has really done a nice job and were going to continue to evaluate it but if we were to play right now he’s (Allen) has done a good job and would be our center.

In his presser following Tuesday’s practice, McVay noted that if you are looking for one of those “stand out” players of training camp this year, Brian Allen would be that guy, according to Turf Show Times’ Kenneth Arthur.

Allen last appeared in the 2019 season where he started nine games for the Rams but since then he has been struggling with injuries. It was a struggle for him in that 2019 season but McVay has reiterated on multiple occasions that he has done a nice job in camp.

The Rams switched most first team C reps to Allen with two days left in camp, after initially moving Corbett from RG to all C work through the spring/summer. He’s trending back toward RG now. Says a lot at once about
– Allen in pads
– Best option at RG
– Yes, perhaps the run game

McVay liked the way the Rams’ defense played [against Dallas], but it was a different story with the offense. He didn’t call out any players in particular, but he did say the offense can be much better than it was on Saturday.

“Offensively, I think we can be a lot better,” he said Monday. “I think there were some good things that we flashed, but it’s a different front – the way that we’re hitting blocks and doing some different things was new. We didn’t game plan it, but I still expect more from that group. I think we’ve got enough guys that have played a lot of football that want us to be sharper in our overall execution from one snap to the next. You might have a good play, but the good offenses, they consistently stack good plays after one another. And I didn’t think we did as good a job as I expect us to do.”

Kareem Orr

Orr had a great week of camp, no question, and it culminated with a play in the red zone against the Cowboys’ second-team offense in which Orr broke up a would-be touchdown. With rookie Robert Rochell still recovering post-wrist-surgery, Orr will probably get a lot of playing time in the preseason and the Rams will get a long look at him against non-teammates, too — especially as they evaluate their depth situation at corner.

He might not be the tallest corner in this draft but he is definitely not undersized at almost six foot. He is a strong muscular with exceptional vision & ball skills. He is tough athletic with the lateral vertical talent that matches up with many DB’s several inches bigger than Orr.

In pass coverage have seen him play both inside & out with efficiency has the tenacity to play nickel if need be with the long speed along with the confidence to play on the outside. Plays off coverage very well, breaking in front of routes cutting them off for an INT or gets his hands in the way. Quick twitch player recognizing calls and playing the ball making interceptions, batting balls down or sizing up an RB on a screen. He has no problem diving leaping or jumping to break up a play. He is a hardnose defender with a knack for being around the ball.

On run defense/ tackling, Orr is a strong tackler like a scud missile goes low takes out the legs of Relentlessly tracking down players or keeping them in front of himself squares his shoulders using his strength & quickness to bring guys to the turf. Versatile DB that is a sound effective hitter that can be a stud in run support.

Be great at a slot position or has also played plenty of safety in College. He could play outside but his ability to get out in front of a wideout is tremendous. Has the power & toughness to take down much bigger players like TEs or big backs. He has the quickness, awareness tenacity to be a special talent in the nickel for the right D scheme. For many years to come. Or be a very good strong safety as well that can stay on the field on all downs.

His Great tackling ability could make him an asset on special teams too. A DB willing to go up and make a big play. Great timing on pass plays as well, as the vision needed in the run game. Can diagnosis plays well and reads the QB’s eyes.

My final summary is that Orr is an athletic quick twitch tough DB that has the speed & versatility to entice many scouts to give him a shot in a camp this spring. I see Orr as a late round or Undrafted Free agent that could make an in=midiate impact both on special teams & adding depth to an already strong secondary. The right DB coach could make 6 Pick Reem a household name.

I didn’t really try to convince of anything (that would take more effort and a detailed post), for the sake of conversation I just painted the difference between us. It’s many many simple things. Does Biden promote internal domestic racist policies the same as Trump? Yes or no?

Then extend that. Are American foreign wars actually based on race, or dominantion of economic resources? We also protect regimes of nations populated by people of color and headed by people of color because they are valuable allies in the global domination of resources. I don’t think we’re really analyzing race when distinctions just don’t count anymore. To me it becomes empty buzzwords.

I said before the election that Trump was even worse than people imagined and not only was I right, he was even worse than I even imagined he would be when I said that.
