Greg Olson was an underrated part of the Rams early successes under McVay. Probably the least talked about of all the ex-QB coaches and OCs. Glad heâs coming back onboard. Have to feel he will be a veteran providing coaching experience on a relatively youthful offensive staff

Los Angeles Rams victories this season will result in losses after the season.
Offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell is set to become the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings after Super Bowl LVI, and he is expected to take Rams tight ends coach/passing game coordinator Wes Phillips with him as his offensive coordinator or passing game coordinator, per league sources.
Rams secondary coach/passing game coordinator Ejiro Evero is expected to become the Denver Broncos’ defensive coordinator, per sources.
But the Rams have reinforcements on their mind. Kentucky offensive coordinator Liam Coen, who already has worked as the Rams’ quarterbacks coach under Sean McVay, is a prime candidate to succeed O’Connell, per league sources.
Former Las Vegas Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson, who also worked as the Rams’ quarterback coach in 2017, is likely to return to the staff and could garner offensive coordinator consideration or take over the same quarterbacks coaching job he once held with the organization, per league sources. Los Angeles has been eyeing him as an offensive coaching replacement for weeks; Olson’s job in Las Vegas has been filled with new head coach Josh McDaniels hiring former New England Patriots wide receivers coach Mick Lombardi as his new offensive coordinator, according to sources.
Los Angeles also could decide to promote running backs coach Thomas Brown , who received head-coaching interviews, to be offensive coordinator, so there are options for the brain drain that the Rams are about to experience.
Then again, the Rams already knew they would be losing assistant coaches and have been through this before. Of the 20 coaches that were on their staff from Super Bowl LIII, only six remain on staff.
Assistants are about to leave Los Angeles for promotions — but more are expected to return to give the Rams the continuity and reliability they will need for the 2022 season.

We know the Rams* tied the record for most sacks in a game with 7. They tied Pittsburgh in SB X, Chicago in XX and Denver* in SB L. Von Miller played in 2 of those games and is now tied with Charles Haley for the most career SB sacks (4.5). He had 2.5 vs Carolina and 2 vs Cincinnati.The Rams (43) and Bengals (79) had the second lowest output for rushing yards by both teams (122). Arizona (33) and Pittsburgh (58) in SB43 (92) are #1.
Consequently, it was only the 4th SB without a rushing touchdown, joining SB X (Pittsburgh vs Dallas), SB XV (Oakland vs Philadelphia) and SB XXIII (Bengals vs SF).

There was also a narrative, which I think is true, that earlier in the seaon McV relied more on MS just slinging it and cut back on the jet sweeps, motion, and play action. Teams adjusted to that and the ones that could tee off on the Rams usually solid but sometimes physically manhandled OL took advantage of that. As a response McV put back in more of the play action and so on and relied less on MS just slinging it from start to finish.
A flaw I thought I saw with MS may relate to this. Underneath passes were not always as effective with him because he would wait a beat too long before checking down and that set up the underneath receivers to be stopped for fewer yards. That comes from him pressing and trying to look downfield for something to break. I would prefer it if he had a top inner clock and saw immediately that he should throw underneath before giving the defense time to spot it.
This of course all said just with the interests of painting the whole picture. I am not trying to downplay Stafford or to paint him in a bad light. He and McV both are both great but they both still have some flaws in their composition. Sometimes there were games where that got the better of them. But–they had a great stretch drive when it counted and MS is becoming one of the great 4th quarter qbs of all time.

2. DI AARON DONALD, LOS ANGELES RAMS
2021 Snaps: 1,261 | 2021 PFF Grade: 93.5
Donald has been the top-ranked player on this list in four of the last six seasons, and he almost made it once again. Including the postseason, Donald once again topped 100 pressures, accomplishing that feat in four of the last five seasons. What is perhaps most impressive about his performance this season is that he played over 1,000 snaps in the regular season and actually registered the most snaps PFF has recorded from an interior defensive lineman over a season. Donald still pressured quarterbacks at an elite level despite being asked to endure a historically high workload.
3. WR COOPER KUPP, LOS ANGELES RAMS
2021 Snaps: 1,301 | 2021 PFF Grade: 93.0
Kupp is both a phenomenal receiver and the beneficiary of the kind of deployment that makes it almost impossible for an opposing defense to take him out of the game. He lined up in the slot on 65.5% of his snaps, generating 1,402 yards from that inside alignment alone in the regular season. Kupp gained 3.45 yards for every route run from the slot, as that alignment makes it very difficult for defenses to just defend him with their best corner or play aggressive man coverage.
24. EDGE VON MILLER, LOS ANGELES RAMS
2021 Snaps: 939 | 2021 PFF Grade: 91.2
It once looked as if Millerâs star had started to fade, but a trade to Los Angeles and the chance of another Super Bowl reinvigorated him. Against Tampa Bay in the playoffs, Miller notched his first double-digit pressure game since Week 8 of 2019, and he showed that he still has some gas left in the tank. His perennial dominance against the run has stayed intact, and while he might not generate a league-leading rate of pressure in the future, he can still be extremely effective in that area.
29. CB JALEN RAMSEY, LOS ANGELES RAMS
2021 Snaps: 1,269 | 2021 PFF Grade: 84.4
Ramsey played a new role within the Rams defense this season, lining up in the slot or in the box on 42.7% of his snaps compared to just 23.6% the season before. The star cornerback responded with his best season since that incredible year in 2017, racking up 14 pass breakups and a career-high 26 defensive stops. Ramsey is an elite playmaker, and his new role puts him at the heart of the action more often.
43. QB MATTHEW STAFFORD, LOS ANGELES RAMS
2021 Snaps: 1,343 | 2021 PFF Grade: 86.1
Matthew Stafford in Los Angeles was a lot like Matthew Stafford in Detroit for most of the season, but the results were better because of everything around him. However, once the playoffs began, his game went to a different level. Other than Josh Allen, Stafford was the best-graded playoff quarterback and made big plays late in the Super Bowl to execute another signature game-winning drive and cap off his first season in L.A. with a ring.
53. T ROB HAVENSTEIN, LOS ANGELES RAMS
2021 Snaps: 1,236 | 2021 PFF Grade: 83.4
Completing a run of right tackles, Havenstein finished his season with a Super Bowl ring. He was outstanding as a run-blocker this year, posting his third excellent grade in that area in four seasons. As a pass-blocker, he allowed 31 pressures across 763 pass-blocking snaps and was excellent in the Rams’ victory over the Bengals to close the campaign.
97. C BRIAN ALLEN, LOS ANGELES RAMS
2021 Snaps: 1,181 | 2021 PFF Grade: 74.8
Allen got to end his season with a Super Bowl win, helping the Rams to overcome the Bengals in the big game. Allen allowed 25 pressures over the season when including the playoffs and earned a 79.5 PFF run-blocking grade.
znModeratorLike everyone else I am assuming AW retires, which means they have to sign Noteboom. LOT is just not a position you gamble with. In terms of the contract, he won’t come cheap. It is true that he does not have a lot of starting experience, but still, just given contract dynamics at the position, he will get something near the going rate for FA 2nd contracts at LOT. Finding a good LOT is like finding a qb–there just aren’t enough bodies to go around–so most likely they will have to pay (maybe as high as 20 M). They will be doing that at the same time they will be extending Stafford.
That’s why I tend to doubt they will have much money to work with.
