znModeratorHall of Fame pass rusher Kevin Greene was a 5th round pick who didn’t become a starter until his 4th year with the club, where he had a breakout 16.5 sack season. With patience and dedication, major players can be found in the later rounds of the draft! pic.twitter.com/mqGp8n0DVk

Though Greene had 7 sacks in his 2nd year and 6.5 in his 3rd year.

more:
From Snead and McVay, sort of a given based on history but they aren’t going to hesitate to be active in trading back if there is a cluster of players they like at a certain pick point. Rams have 8 picks now and would expect to add a couple more.

znModeratorJourdan Rodrigue@JourdanRodrigueTakeaways from Snead/McVay today… – Rams have “pod” of players they’re interested in at 104; open to moving back if enough of them available at pick point and consensus isn’t way higher on one vs. group. – Would like to add more picks to current 8 – Snead believes draft is.“relatively deep” in intersection between players who fit needs and also players they just like – Interesting insight: When they set board, they don’t grade by rounds. They grade as players in roles. (https://theathletic.com/3120863/2022/02/10/wake-up-sprinting-dont-be-scared-inside-the-ultra-aggressive-interdependent-rams-team-build-ecosystem/…) – Elevated importance toward personal traits in later
.rounds bc depending on position, those players will be asked to do more, earlier (S, CB for example) – “Les is the basket case now, I’m the basket case during the season.” – McVay – Rams’ process engineered to not let bias “from desperation of need” to “blur” line between BPA.(which I take to mean early-pick WRs/TEs and RBs are probably on the table, depending on the player’s skill set and whether a player they rank pretty high falls for some reason). – “Four or five positions” from which they’d want to pick at 104 if they stay thereApril 26, 2022 at 7:54 pm in reply to: Just a thread for different kindsa interesting things #138485

znModeratorCesar @ClappedCesarLooking back, the Rams losing to the 49ers in week 18 was probably one of the best things to happen to them. Humbled them before the final stretch of games where they couldn’t afford to lose.
znModeratorAnd I just posted it in the anchored thread up top, so if you could delete that for me, that would be great. It’ll be better to have it in just one thread.
It’s okay in 2 places.
I will not delete you though. It’s time your true self be shown to the world. That is, someone interested in the the Rams and our little board enough to post things.
We can’t have that. Message boards are supposed to be zones of endless arguing, trolling, and attacking others.

znModeratorSosa Kremenjas@QBsMVPI just know some poor soul(s) are going to stay up nice and late on Friday night to watch the Rams make their first pick in the draft at the end of the 3rd round, only for the Rams to trade out of the 3rd round altogether.

znModeratorPARAM
What positions will they draft?
I know the consensus is CB and Edge because we have 3 legit CBs under contract (Ramsey, Long and Rochell) and at Edge, we have one healthy (Floyd), 2 oft-injured (T.Lew & Hollins) and 1 inexperienced 2nd year guy (Garrett).
We all expect a CB to come off with one of the first two picks and Edge to come off with the other.
Having said that, we know they always seem to surprise us. If it’s not a safety who can’t cover with the first pick, it’s a running back or wide receiver we didn’t think we needed. It’s really hard to hit on who they’re going to take because we don’t ever pick in the first round and figuring late second or late third is a exercise in futility.
I list our needs in this order:
1. Cornerback
2. Offensive Line
3a. Edge/OLB
3b. Running back
5a. Tight end
5b. SafetyBut they don’t seem to draft CB that early. Long in the third (#79) and Rochell in the 4th (#130) are the only two they’ve drafted the last 5 years. That’s a skill position and they like to get them in trade or UFA. I really think they’re going to get a CB with one of the first 3 picks.
Offensive line is that nut the blind squirrel finds. We keep saying, “we need OL”, “this year we really need OL” or “they have to take OL, particularly a center this year”. And they keep saying….”Not so fast my friend!!”. Just like CB, I think they’re going to get OL with one of the first 3 picks.
Edge–I see them drafting one too but not with any of the first 3 picks.
Running back might be what they feel is their 2nd biggest need. I know I would like to see one drafted. The earlier the better.
Tight end is intriguing. We have Higbee. Blanton and Hopkins showed up later. But this is another “weapon” that McVay likes to accumulate. It wouldn’t shock me one bit if they took one early.
Safety is one of those positions in which they don’t invest a lot. Money-wise or draft capital. The one time they did, we got Rapp. So this is the position they fill from the 5th on down.
I would love to see all 6 of those positions with Edge and CB being doubled up. One early, one later.
I could see it going a number of ways.
#104: CB, TE or OL
#142: RB, CB or TE
#175: OL, RB or CB
#211, #212 and #218: Edge, CB, OL, TE, RB, S or LB
#238 and #253: S, Edge, CB or OLCan’t wait to watch it…..late Friday and all day Saturday
znModeratorWV is still bent because the Rams fired Linehan. That’s all that is.
If any one thing has ruined good Rams discussion over the last several years, it’s the loud, insistent, constant, obsessively bitter lamentings of the ever-present pro-Linehan faction.
Yes, we get it, he was great and he was wronged. But the past is the past. Move on.
