Part of Goff’s erratic play was making poor reads. That’s what people in a position to know have said. He just didn’t make reads at times.

Why not? Some people are saying 5 years isn’t enough time. I’m inclined to think that by Year 5, he should have been better. That’s all.

A butterfly flaps his wings, and causes a tornado on Mars.

Pats playing the Chiefs in the playoffs. Brady gets another
questionable call in his favor. Chiefs lose.

Rams and Goff have to play Pats instead of Chiefs in the super bowl.

If that call in the chiefs/Pats game goes the other way,
who knows where Goff and McVay would be now.

So many things in sports are ‘like that.’ An inch here,
a penalty there. The Saints easily could have been
    in two more Super Bowls.

My point? Goff has already proved to ‘me’ he can win a ring.
What he did in the big Monday Night game, and what he did
in the Saints playoff game showed me that.

I think Goff will have a fine career, and given the right
cast and some luck, wouldnt surprise me a bit if he won a ring.

The disintegration of the Goff/McV relationship was probly
the most startling Ram player/coach disintegration I can remember.

The coaching of Goff was mishandled and the public pre-trade treatment
was mishandled by McSnead. I doubt if i ever feel ‘quite’ the same
about McV or Snead. Startling lack of class by both, imho.

Having said all that, I ‘do’ like the ‘decision’ to upgrade to Stafford.
Thats how i think of it — as an upgrade. But we shall see.

    It better be an upgrade.

That is all on McVay. That is the only way I can read all of this–that’s the only thing that adds up and stands up to scrutiny.

    ————

Oh, he mishandled Goff alright. Surprisingly so, to me.
I mean, you just dont tear your QB down like that.
Seems like coaching 101 stuff to me.
Doesnt quite make any sense to me that McVay would be that dum
    about something like that.

Lombardi once yelled at Bart Starr in a practice. Sensitive, HOF QB, Bart Starr.
Starr waited and talked to Lombardi, alone, in the coaches office.
He said, ‘Never do that again.’ Lombardi never did it again.

…Lombardi also built the best OLine
in the NFL. And that was that.

Yeah, the Lindsey Thiry article is good.
It prettymuch says what we all kinda thought though. Just a gradual erosion
    in trust/faith by McVay.

McVay’s view was that Goff just wasn’t making enough plays,
and was too limited in his decision-making-process.

    McVay blamed Goff.

The jury is out on whether McVay is right about any
or all of that, but it does sound like the
    young-aggro coach didnt ‘handle’ his
quarterback in a way that would bring out the best in Goff.

McVay is no Dick Vermeil. Course DV needed Martz.

Lets hope McVay has his ‘Martz’, this year.
Or if McVay is Martz, lets hope he has his DV.
    Or somethin.

“..they didn’t even know who Jared was with the fact that you keep reading about, ‘Well, this is all McVay’s system. McVay has done this, McVay has done that.’ Well, the thing was is that they weren’t doing what Jared’s really good at, which is getting in the shotgun and letting him go through progressions and letting him throw the football around. He was under center, faking jet sweeps, play-action passes…”

so i can block Aaron Donald.

I am at a loss to understand how they could keep Floyd.
The guy had a super-star year. Oozes talent.
I was 99 percent sure, he was unsignable
    for a cap-strapped team.

Donald, Jalin Ramsey, and Floyd. Not sure any defense
can beat that for a top-3.

I would think they can still be a top ten
defense, now, no matter who else they lose.

Back to the Oline, now. Seems like the
season hinges on that. Can they build
    one, coach one.

I dont expect the defense to be top 3 next year,
and i do expect a fall-off, but i think they
could still be a solid top-ten defense.

I just think its all about the OLine now.
I dont have any predictions on the Oline,
all i can do is wait and see.

But if they put together a top-ten Oline,
I think it could be a 12 win team.
