    We need to start proving that we can beat physical teams. If we get in as a Wild-Card…

    ==========

    Yeah thats the thing. Titans, 49ers, Packers just beat them like dogs.

    This game did nothing to give me confidence the rams can beat a
    pitbull of a team.

    You know what ‘would’ give me confidence — if the Rams handled
    the 49ers in that last game.

    Then again, what happens if that game means zero to the rams
    playoff positioning, and it means everything to the 49ers.

    I dunno.

    Midseason, it looked like five teams were all bunched together.
    Now, it looks like Packers and Bucs are a top tier,
    and Cards, Cowboys and Rams are a second tier.

    We’ll see. Lots can happen tween now and the playoffs.

    I dunno what that was.

    If they can play like that with people out, why cant they play like that
    all the time?

    I’m inclined to think it was more about the Cards playing bad
    than the Rams playing good. But i dunno.

    Only watched the hi lites, but looked like WRs were having to make
    adjustments to the passes all game long.

    Stafford’s just not as accurate as he was earlier in the year.
    I’m assuming his mystery-injuries are affecting him.

    Does not bode well for the future.

    I expect fewer pick-6s than usual.

    I’m also expecting a really ugly, physical, penalty-filled game
    as the Jags try to bully the rams and the rams try not to be bullied.

    I haven’t seen any specifics. Just generalized stuff: back pain, ankle, and throwing arm…

    ..Bottom line for me: I think McVay is a good coach, and Snead is a pretty good GM. But they have their share of major whiffs…

    ===

    Well, an injured/beaten-up QB needs a good OLine.

    And the Rams drafted a tutu instead of an OLineman.

    Thats still my biggest gripe this year.

    But that’s what they did last year.

    And Williams was MUCH, MUCh better last year.

    Why?

    ============

    Well, I dunno. But I’m guessing Staley had a better feel
    for situational football.

    But yeah, Williams is a mystery.

    …if they lose to Jax, this will be quite a collapse.

    Yeah, I saw that. He was very critical of the way the DC is using Jalen.

    I dunno.

    Thing is, whoever they assign Jalen to, the opposing QB is just
    gonna throw it to someone else. Its the other DBs who have
    to step up, and apparently they cant.

    About the only hope i see, is maybe Von Miller can make
    a difference down the stretch. If he doesnt then Snead
    was dum and soft.

    Just focusing on the offense here but Stafford’s first year in it he loses Akers in Camp then Funk Mundt Harris Atwell Woods for the season Skowronek last week after a bye trying to hurriedly implement OBJ and deal with several lingering injuries. Looking at the first 8 games some of the amazing throws that Goff wouldn’t make on his best day. He didn’t suddenly become an awful QB. Late November at Lambeau he lost a 1 possession game to the same Packers team that beat the Cards while down 5 starters.

    ==========

    Bad news either way.
    If the problem is Stafford, it aint gonna get better.
    If the problem is injuries to Stafford and the Oline, and Woods, Akers, etc,
    that aint gonna get better either.

    At any rate, I love the fact that they finish up against the 49ers.
    I hope both teams need that game to make the damn playoffs.
    Let the rams earn it, If they can, agains the bullies who have
    beat them up five times in a row.

    I disagree. Yes, i think Stafford is a significant upgrade over Goff.

    I say that because of what i saw in the first batch of Ram games.
    So what has happened? Has ‘the real stafford’ shown up?
    Maybe.

    But my own speculation is that
    Stafford is hurt,
    the OLine has not played well and is wearing down,
    Losing Woods was huge,
    Running game is not scaring anyone.

    I mean, we know great QBs can suck when the surrounding pieces
    disintegrate. I watched Russell Wilson a while back and he looked
    absolutely awful. Is he a bum now?

    Having said all that, Im not sure of any of this.
    Its possible Stafford is Jeff George. Could be.
    But at this point, I’m not persuaded.

    Well, as expected the celebrity-media has buried Stafford and the Rams.
    I dunno.

    My expectations have officially changed, though. They wont win a Ring.
    But I’m now just hoping for a wildcard berth and one playoff win.

    I cant quite bury them, yet, because they still seem
    dangerous to me in a sense. I can picture them putting-it-all-2gether
    in one playoff game and knocking any one team out.

    But first they have to make the playoffs.

    This is not an easy schedule.

    Biggest game of the year, I guess.
    Can the Hollywood, glitzy, star-studded Rams actually play hard-nosed, outdoor football against a winning team?

    Sure would be nice to see something out of Von Miller and/or OBJ.

    I just dont know what this team can be without Captain Robert Woods.

    WV,

    What’s your take on the conventional wisdom with regard to “human nature”? I’ve been doing a lot of reading lately about evolution, biology, traits, etc. . . . and have discovered that the tide is turning. As in, the old ways of seeing humans as inherently violent, selfish, and hopelessly cruel, are being countered with a ton of evidence to the contrary..

    ===========

    I think zn’s wording/thots on this were what I always return to.

    Years ago, he basically taught me that ‘human nature’ is plastic,
    adaptable.

    Cooperation and Competition both are ‘human nature’.
    So any ‘system’ can plug into either and ramp up or suppress either,
    to an unknown-extent.

    One of the reasons I’m a doomer, is because, I dont believe
    its at all likely, that human-brains that have been born-and-raised
    under generation-after-generation of capitalism, can be…um…’fixed’.
    Too much damage. Damage is too deep.

    But who knows.

    I agree that Rittenhouse should have been “guilty of something.” He really did a stupid thing by simply injecting himself into a riot… But I think the prosecutor really fucked up by going for the Hail Mary, intentional murder charge. Clearly, the videos showed otherwise.

    My question for you, as a lawyer, is…what did you think of the Judge and his interactions with the prosecution? I mean, he was PISSED.

    ====

    I just didnt follow the case, Oz. Really, just barely paid any attention to it.
    Saw a vid here and there. I got the impression the judge was a complete F’ing
    asshole, but thats different from saying he F’d up any big ‘legal’ issues.
    He made that one ruling about not using the word ‘victim,’ that I’ve
    never seen before, but i dont know what his reasoning was, and i’m 99
    percent sure that would not be enough to overturn the jury’s decision.

    I’m SO much more interested in the systemic-inequality in this nation
    that causes permanent-poverty and thus spawns violent reactions
    to an unfair system. The ‘individual’ trials all over america
    dont really interest me. Its the ‘system’ that interests me.

    well. at first i was disappointed. but comparing him to the rest of the field. he still ranks third in qb rating. he ranks first in total qbr. he also ranks fourth in ypa.

    football outsiders ranks him third although it’s possible he moves up after factoring prescott’s last game.

    still a long way to go but not bad.

    ===============

    I think some of us are kinda getting a more fine-tuned view of Stafford.

    He’s definitely not one of those high-precision, always-accurate
    type QBs. Like say, oh, i dunno…Montana, etc.

    He can be wild at times, like Goff.

    But Stafford threatens the entire field, and he’s ‘accurate enough’
    I think. He’s somewhere in the top-ten in the NFL.
    Compare Stafford’s performance this year with, say, Mahommes, who
    we know is HOF caliber. Or Russell Wilson, also HOF caliber. Or Dak.
    Or Lamar Jackson. Or Josh Allen.

    I mean, all the top QBs have had bad games this year.

    For me, what I’m seeing is mainly problems ‘around’ him.
    Oline problems. And now, no Robert Woods which is huge.
    And the running game is ok, but not top-ten.

    The focus is gonna be on the QB, as per usual, but
    this team will go as far as the OLine takes them.

    Dunno how many of yunz have watched the vids of the actual incidents.
    I watched it for the first time the other day.
    (happened to see it on Jimmy Dore’s show. The vid starts around the 6 minute mark or so. I dont care about Dore’s take on this, but this is just where i saw
    the actual footage)

    Having seen the vid, If i were a juror, i doubt I would have found KR
    guilty of ‘murder’. I think he was guilty of ‘something’ though.

    For me though, my leading-edge thot, is that zeroing in on individual cases
    like this is…oh…almost a distraction. It would be like zeroing in
    on the OJ trial, or really, any particular incident.

    I think there’s an issue of missing the forest while focusing on a tree.

    For me the mega-issue is essentially, Capitalism/Racism/Patriarchy
    concentrated through the lens of neoliberalism is destroying
    any chance for ‘justice.’

    As an aside, i’ll tell you, i would never talk about the Rittenhouse case
    on twitter. Twitter just doesnt do ‘nuance.’ Plus, I dont think its possible to discuss it on twitter without being swarmed, plus there’s the word-limit-limitations, etc, etc.

    Stafford’s has come back to the pack the last couple weeks, but by any statistical measure he’s still one of the top three QB’s in the league.

    Neither INT against the 9’ers was his fault. The first one was picked because OBJ quit on the route, and the second one bounced out of Higbee’s hands.

    ======

    Did OBJ ‘quit on the route’ or was he running a
    different/shallower route than stafford expected?

    I dunno.
