    That sucks, Mac.

    Hopefully it passes okay.

I definitely have more of these in my future. I have a lot in my kidneys and at my last cat scan they saw a 6mm one in there.

    Ouch.

I am trying to watch my diet but I don’t drink enough lemon water–or water period really(drink lots of water guys)and I still pop a tums now and then. I do avoid tea now though but I don’t really follow the list of high oxalate foods to avoid like I should. I’ll regret that.

This guy sounds perfect. I expect the Rams to take him at #10.

I have made up my mind. Collins it is.

I talked with a couple of teams that were hoping LSU tackle/guard La’el Collins didn’t show up well at tackle in order for them to have an opportunity to draft him as a guard. The buzz among my scout buddies was that Collins would have trouble in the league with edge rushers and their speed — thus making him a better fit inside, where he can just play against players with power. I have to say that there were some snaps against those edge rushers where he more than held his own off that left side. There will be plenty of talk in the coming weeks where teams view him as a fit.

Draft analyst Russ Lande, the former Rams scout, calls the 2015 QB class “the worst class I can remember. I don’t think there’s anybody that you can look at and say, ‘OK, this is your Andrew Luck. This is your Peyton Manning. Or Tom Brady even.’

“That is, a definite guy you want to stake a claim to in the first round. Everybody, whether it’s Winston or Mariota, they all have major questions. And I’m not even talking off the field. I’m just talking on the field, that make me wonder if they can really be successful quarterbacks.”

    That is particularly depressing.

I only saw Petty once but his deep ball was deadly accurate. His arm is more than strong enough for the NFL.

But he definitely is not the most mobile guy–especially compared to Hundley but he’s got decent size and a good arm. He will take time, of course. He does remind me of Bradford a little bit.

I would absolutely draft him in round #3.

If the QBs start to fall I’d consider taking him in round #2. But that’s a bit more of a reach.

None of these guys seem to stand out much over the other one. You will have to get lucky and all these guys need time so it is not any immediate fix.

    Saw this on ESPN:

    http://espn.go.com/boston/story/_/id/12202450/nfl-says-new-england-patriots-had-inflated-footballs-afc-championship-game?ex_cid=sportscenterFB

The NFL began looking into the issue because doctoring the footballs could provide a competitive advantage, compromising the integrity of the game.

Deflating a football can change the way it’s gripped by a player or the way it travels through the air. Under NFL rules, each team provides balls each game for use when its offense is on the field. The balls are inspected before the game by the officiating crew, then handled during the game by home-team personnel.

Furthermore, Brady told WEEI radio in November 2011 that he likes using underinflated footballs.

It almost sounds like each team uses its own balls on offense.

If true that would be the advantage.

Colts had properly inflated balls/ Pats didn’t.

    If that’s how it works.

If they were both playing with deflated balls how did one team have an advantage?

I get that Bellicheat will do anything to win. I’m just wondering in this particular case how his team had the edge over the other one. Were they playing with different balls? Do they practice with deflated balls?

Have the Rams actually interviewed ANYONE yet?

Hey–it’s not a great situation. It’s a coach who may be on shaky ground if things don’t improve in a hurry. The QB situation is far from settled. The team is probably moving but–who knows for certain. The offensive line needs work. There is no superstar offensive weapon on the team. What’s not to like?

My guess is it is just a promotion from within and go from there. At least the scheme won’t change much.

Unless there is a stealth candidate–someone like a Mike Shanahan who joins his pal Fisher for some laughs.

Van Pelt was OC for the Bills in 2008 before the whole coaching staff was fired.

    The team finished 23rd overall.

    22nd passing.(Trent Edwards and J.P. Losman)

14th rushing(they had Fred jackson and Marshawn Lynch)

Apparently the Packers QB coaches kept getting offered OC jobs–the last two: Clements(now OC for Packers) and Ben Mcadoo(Giants).

Maybe working with Aaron Rodgers makes them good candidates?

    All righty then.

I won’t beat this to death, though people may feel I am doing so already.

I don’t get the “nothing new” criticism. True, there is nothing new. After 11 years and 3 years of Fisher’s leadership. Losing is not new. Why is this not worthy of comment?

The harping on Sam is weird. I have always liked Sam and feel he would make us better. But, a couple of problems with the blaming of all our problems on Sam:

    * Our record with him isn’t much better than with his backups.
    * Snead and Fisher made the decision to trust his surgically repaired knee last year. They lost that bet–which I would have taken and been equally wrong.
    * I don’t see how anyone can watch those games and simply blame the QB. I thought we didn’t do that around here.

Do you guys think we played like winners on a consistent basis this year … apart from the QB? Really? Not sure what games I was watching. ‘Cause I saw a bunch of guys fluctuating wildly between making a few plays and dissolving into chaos. I saw a team that shot itself in both feet, both hands, and any other appendage you’d care to mention, wasting games that were there for the taking, even with the QBing we had.

As for Arians, his superiority in coaching a team to compete in comparison to Fisher’s strikes me as blindingly obvious. I thought that was clear for the world to see in that home contest in which he beat us with nothing but discipline. He consistently has that team at its ceiling. Sometimes that’s a loss, but damn if they don’t compete. Do you really see that in the Rams? Honestly?

I dunno. Clearly, I am out of tune with this board. Obviously, what I see is pretty different from what you guys see. Maybe it is “bottom lining.” I dunno. That’s not how I understand what I am seeing or trying to say. But what the hell do I know?

I’ve felt for awhile that Bradford is really a “game manager” sort of QB who needs a lot of things right around him to succeed.

I don’t believe he can LIFT a team that is either injured or inferior in some ways. And I’m talking about a healthy Bradford.

There was plenty of criticism of him when he was healthy(I always thought his pocket awareness wasn’t great and he made slow decisions). But the guy has a good arm. And he was showing signs of getting better at pocket awareness. Now with two years of injuries I’m not sure what to expect.

But it is certainly hard for any team without a solid QB. The “experiment” with Davis this year was a bit of a tease. Things looked promising before he self-destructed and single handedly cost a couple of games. Hill was a bit more steady but he too had his key moments of awfulness.

I do believe that they really screwed the pooch on the offensive line. I mean–they tried but failed to fix some things there and no where is that easier to see than at center. Wells was a bad signing. Jones was a bad draft choice. I don’t know what happened with Barnes.

Even the defense looked sloppy at times–undisciplined.

It’s a combination of things for sure.

But Fisher has coached for 20 years in the NFL. At Tennessee he had a .542 winning percentage.

    In St, louis it’s .427.

    Total: .524

    Andy Reid: .588(16 years)

    Tom Coughlin: .539 (19 years)

    Marvin Lewis: .526(12 years)

    Pete Carroll: .576(9 years)

    Belichick: .659(20 years)

The NFL needs money. They’re really hurting. So spreading the draft to a hundred days or moving it around or having television shows to announce MVPs or televising college combines just wasn’t going to cut it. The spectacle of unveiling the schedule or the
Pro Bowl Draft just wasn’t getting it done.

    Now the combine for vets?

THAT will put the league on its feet again.

I can’t wait for the Rules Committee three day event to be televised along with a Rolling Stones concert intermission.

    The NFL needs more stuff.

    Some thoughts:

I have not seen many of these films. Frankly, I don’t have an interest in many of them.

So here are some comments from what I have seen:

Rosamund Pike should win Best Actress for “Gone Girl”. She won’t. But she should. It was a fantastic performance.

Julianne Moore will probably win for “Still Alice”. I saw that film as well, and while Moore is great as always, it’s a very subtle sort of low-key performance.

Pike had the more complicated role.

Michael Keaton should win for “Birdman”. In a film I did not particularly enjoy with characters I didn’t care for, Keaton’s performance is worthy of the statue. He plays a character with a lot of demons(not someone I liked or cared for but maybe that was the point)and he manages to make me think he’s not simply playing Michael Keaton.

Streep–again? Really? “Into the Woods” sucked. The completely overlooked actress playing ben Affleck’s sister in “Gone Girl” should have gotten a nomination. Sorry–don’t know her name.

And all the love for “Grand Budapest Hotel”?

I don’t get it. But I’ve never been a Wes Anderson fan.

A film I refuse to see: “Boyhood.”

Eventually I will probably see, “American Sniper” and “The Imitation Game” and “Foxcatcher” but that might be it.

    My film of the year?

    No surprise: Gone Girl.

But the Rams don’t have a lot of choice really.

    Yeah they do.

They can not reach for a qb.

That way, they can end up 7-9 with a more talented team while waiting to find a qb, ASSUMING Bradford does not work out.

Or they can end up 7-9 with a LESS talented team having reached for a qb, ASSUMING Bradford does not work out.

The chances of REACHING for a qb out of need? The odds against that are just so great it’s not worth contemplating.

So yeah they have a choice.

Well, they COULD wait for the next great QB class and hope they are in the right position to select from that pool. But in the meantime they could try to find the guy. I’d rather they be proactive and start to bring some young guys in. It could fail–of course. But maybe it doesn’t.

But as I said–I wouldn’t roll the dice with the 10th pick so the stakes would be lower as they drop in rounds.

    I agree with lyser.

Not really–but I haven’t heard from him in awhile and am being polite. Not that he gives a shit.

Here’s the thing: I did not see the game. Never saw the kid. Just saw the highlights(mostly of the running back and offensive line of OSU and that tight end). So I have too little info or knowledge of him. However, I would not pick him 10th because the Rams have to address the offensive line at that spot.

I would not take any of these quarterbacks at 10 and that includes the top two guys.

In the second round I’d be a little more open but not necessarily sold and in the third round I’d probably think about it.

Joemad makes three great points against him.

But the Rams don’t have a lot of choice really. They have to roll the dice on someone in some early round.

Hundley, Petty, the kid from East Carolina, Jones–someone. There is no guaranty with any of them.

I like the idea of giving Petty a shot but I saw him all of one game–his bowl game.

I tell you this–I’d rather they pick Jones(3rd round) than give up a single extra pick to move up for Winston or Mariota.

They are going to roll the dice on a young QB this year–and it probably won’t work out. But what else can they do?

You have to wonder how easy it will be to get a guy they really want–someone who has any sort of demand.

There’s the distractions of moving the team(or not moving it).

There’s uncertainty at QB and a woeful offensive line.

There has to be at least some concern over how secure Fisher will be if he has another season of losing.

In short—it may not be the most desirable job available.

On the plus side: great defense.

I’m not so sure that San Diego and Oakland get priority because they’re already in the state of California. I mean legally, I’m not sure what difference it makes.

“The Rams voluntarily left the Los Angeles and Orange County markets, and some owners may question whether they deserve to return — especially if it means that the stadium situations of the two California teams remain unresolved,” an unnamed team official told Daniel Kaplan of SportsBusiness Journal.

San Diego may need a better argument than that.

Report: L.A. stadium developers seek $100 million tax reimbursement

The developers who want to build a sports complex in a Los Angeles suburb want up to $100 million in reimbursements in local tax dollars in the first five years of operation, according to a review by the Associated Press.

The centerpiece of the complex would be an 80,000-seat domed NFL stadium, accompanying a 6,000-seat performance venue and retail, office, hotel and residential space next to the Hollywood Park site in Inglewood, California.

Christopher Meany, a senior executive with the Hollywood Park Land Co., says “there will be no public dollars, no taxpayer dollars, used for this project.”

Meany has said that the complex is in a perfect location due to its proximity to freeways, the Los Angeles International Airport and The Forum.

But Chicago-based sports finance consultant Marc Ganis called that theory “hyper-spin.”

“It’s not an outright lie … but there will be people who think it is,” Ganis said. “They might be prospective tax dollars, and it might make sense for Inglewood to contribute them to the project, but they are tax dollars.”

It’s not good if the front office is trying to dial up plays.

By the way–this sort of thing plays into a Columbo episode: “The Most Crucial Game” 1972

Paul Hanlon (Robert Culp), the general manager of the Los Angeles Rockets football team, wants to create a sports empire, but Eric Wagner (Dean Stockwell), who inherited the team, lacks ambition. Hanlon kills Eric instead. He sneaks out of the football stadium during the national anthem by disguising himself as a Ding-A-Ling ice cream truck driver. He then drives out to near Eric’s house, and makes a call to Eric’s house from a payphone, knowing full-well that Eric’s phones are bugged, during which he makes it seem like he’s in his private box at the stadium by holding a radio to the receiver. He then drives up to Eric’s house, and kills Eric with a block of ice, and makes it look like a diving accident. Valerie Harper played Eve Babcock, an operative placed in Eric’s home as a secretary by a private detective (Val Avery). Dean Jagger plays Eric’s attorney, Walter Cannell, who hired the private detective.

Robert Culp ticks off the coach by wanting to make game day decisions prompting the coach to pay him a visit(after the murder) which sort of aids the killer’s alibi.

See? Everything in life can be explained by a Columbo episode.
