    No Daddy Shanahan.

There’s no point in it and IMO it would be more harm than good.

Kyle I am fine with. Though I have no personal favorite. Kyle is just one of the guys I am fine with.

I agree with that. I wonder if this “package deal” is something that could hurt Kyle’s chances with teams. Mike should probably separate himself from this and just let Kyle go for it alone.

I hope that one of the questions the Rams ask is who the next coach will look to bring in as coordinators. And can he get them? If it’s McVay that will be more important with the DC since he’ll be installing his own system on offense.

    Mike Garafolo ✔ @MikeGarafolo
Sean McVay has had/is having a second meeting with the Rams, as @TomPelissero reported. Niners still in mix but this is heating up.

It sucks having to actually govern and come up with solutions. It’s so much easier to be the party of “no” and stand there on the sidelines ripping your opponents apart.

They will repeal Obamacare. They have to. They promised it. The thing they will do is try to “sell” their new version of HSAs and deregulation as an answer to “access”–not necessarily “care”. They know what they want to do. It’s just selling it. That will take some time. Repeal with a delay and start selling…”access”–and get away from “care”.

When they’ve convinced enough people they’ll roll it out and presto: Trumpcare is born. After that it’s just a matter of confusing the issue and lying about the success of the program. Just keep selling through the election and remind everyone how horrible Obamacare was. People will begin to remember it that way and there you go. Job done.

    That’s the plan.

Because the only other replacement is single payer. That ain’t happening.

It’s all about winning politically for the right. Once they solve that–the actual success or failure of any replacement means nothing.

I get the whole “wide-net” search but some of it is probably more for show than anything else. There are probably 3 guys they really are looking at and some of them can’t be hired right now so they want to look busy in the meantime.

I mean–Mike Vrable? Really? He was a smart player. Perhaps he’s a good coach. But that seems to be quite a leap to HC. Maybe he could try DC first?

Like I said, I think it’s just part of the show.

My guess is that McDanials is near the top of their list, along with Shanahan and they can’t hire either right now. Mcvay may be the dark horse.

I don’t really understand the salary cap or how certain decisions are made but it sure seems like letting McLeod and Jenkins walk was a mistake. IF they draft well, maybe they can get a talented player with the 3rd and 4th round picks they got for losing them. But that remains to be seen. They missed those guys this year. But I get that there is the reality of the cap so maybe there wasn’t much they could do.

That was outstanding and I agree with every word of it. I’m no expert and even though I didn’t know what I was watching in the same way this guy did, I still saw those things. Easily tackled, no balance. Running into the backs of his linemen. No vision.

They need to get a great RB coach. They need someone to get him back on track. He needs to improve in those areas mentioned. If that doesn’t happen he will quickly become the next Trent Richardson.

And yes–the coaching and how they block for him certainly needs work. It was interesting how Boras changed up things–for the worse. And at no time did they say–hey–let’s go back to what worked. Was that because of Fisher? I don’t know. But the next coach must look at all of this.

    PA Ram,

I noticed your DeLillo siggy. Have you read his latest?

It’s really, really good. One of his best novels, evah, and he’s no spring chicken anymore at 80 years young.

    http://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Zero-K/Don-DeLillo/9781501135392

I read most of it up in the mountains, sitting on a bench near my favorite spot, and that only added to the magic of the book. I highly, highly recommend it.

Hi, Billy. No I haven’t read that one yet. He’s a funny writer to me. I’m not sure what to expect from his books or how I will like them. While “Libra” makes my top ten list of all time, I couldn’t finish “White Noise”. “Point Omega” is a small odd sort of book but some of the thoughts in the book really caused me to reflect on things. While I can’t say I “enjoyed” that book, I found some of the quotes memorable. And it would make a top ten list of books that caused me to think about things. I was going to tackle “Underworld” but never got around to it.

I have to be in the right frame of mind to read him(mood)and I go through phases so I’ll certainly check that one out.

As for now, I’ve been reading Karen Armstrong’s “The Battle for God” about the fundamentalist movement in the three main religions. Very engrossing book. I have about a chapter left.

Next I was ready for some adventure so I just got “The North Water” by Ian McGuire. It has gotten great reviews so I thought I’d try it. I really enjoyed Dan Simmons arctic adventure, “The Terror” so I thought I’d give this a shot.

Holy crap there are some really smart people on this board.

I don’t know how the heck I slipped through the door but it’s very cool to read about these things. Just for fun, I’m going to ask my wife if she knows where our particle accelerator is.

She will quickly tell me to look up my ass.

    She is actually correct.

She’s ALWAYS correct. Just ask her.

I don’t have much of an opinion on any of the candidates but Mcdanials may be the least appealing name on the list. He can’t take Tom Brady with him–and without him he hasn’t proven very much. I agree with Nittany–the 9ers can have him.

    Dak, happy new years!

Man–it’s a great time to be a Rams fan. Things are looking up.

When you’re down at the bottom…you kinda have to look up–you know?

Anyway–you’re always welcome back. Us diehard idiots will be here–still cheering on this hopeless team. And hoping for the best. There’s no saving any of us now. We’re all too old.

    Have a great year!

Happy New Years to you Billy!

Good luck with the novel. I hope it’s a hit. I wish you the best.

I’m starting off the new years with a tooth extraction on Thursday. They were going to put on a new crown but alas–the tooth is too far gone. So I’m one step closer to dentures!!!!! Very exciting.

    That’s my big news.

Hang in there with Trump. We’re all on the Titanic together. We just aren’t the band playing while it goes down.

The “Hopefully a lot of guys will be a lot more hungry” quote is telling, and speaks volumes as to the the mindset of where some of his teammates priorities might be.

Remember, Lamarcus Joyner said as much during Hard Knocks when he almost quit the team. “All these guys.. They be in the locker room … It’s about money, it’s about girls, it’s about cars. Coach, I love this game.”

If they aren’t hungry they shouldn’t be here.

The Jamon Brown quote about the line and running back not being on the same page is stunning. It sounds like they were blocking one way and Gurley did whatever the hell he wanted. Gurley was a problem this year. Even when he broke open a guy could finger tackle him. That concerns me.

And of course this classic from Greg Robinson:

Greg Robinson: “Whoever comes in, I just hope they push me. I’m willing to step up.

    WHAT!!!

    “Push you”? Seriously?

How about they “push you” out the door. The team is not only dumb and unfocused–it’s lazy.

Bring in a hardass. Bring in someone with no patience for this.

Yeah–I have no idea about these college guys. I don’t really watch much college ball at all.

If they get the best center–I’m fine with that. The best guard? Swell. Just so they upgrade this thing.

I’m more lost on this team than on any Rams team I’ve ever seen.

There are problems all over the place.

    The offensive line? Check.

    Receivers? Check.

    Running back? Check.

    Quarterback? Who knows?

    Secondary? Check.

The defense may have some questions and be thin. But the offense is a tsunami and we have to get to high ground.

There needs to be a big roster turnover. Whatever, “culture” was established with these players can’t be flushed out until some of them go. Others–just don’t have the talent. We’ve been “getting by” with Tim Barnes, for example. But it’s not enough.

I think that the next coach must address the offensive line above all else.

I can remember during the GSOT years–when the Rams offense had a problem, Martz would always address the line–he’d say about “fixing” this or that on the line and the line would bounce back from a bad game. It was a priority, it seemed. It just feels these days, like it’s an afterthought or a problem that they can’t solve. Part of that is the players themselves, of course. I don’t want to spend the next three years trying to fix Greg Robinson. If he has value at guard, fine. Otherwise, move on completely. But they need a new LT. I will let the next coach decide who they think is salvageable of this bunch because they obviously can’t all be replaced in one year. I’m hopeful a new line coach can help.

Nothing matters if they do not fix the line.

After that–I stay with offense and find a couple of reliable receivers. And I HOPE Gurley is okay.

The line and then receivers are my top priorities this off season. And yes–goodbye to Brian Quick. Enough already.

If I could trade Tavon I’d do it.

I don’t see the bang for the buck and he just doesn’t seem to fit in for enough plays. Let someone else work with him. I’m not sure what he’d bring in terms of a draft pick or player but I’d explore it. If I could get a solid lineman I’d take it.

    It’s a mess.

It won’t be fixed in one year.

But it’s time to shake things up and not just put on band-aids.

    Rebuild the team.

Marvin Lewis could be gone from the Bengals.

    Maybe McCoy from the Chargers.

    I liked it.

This story makes sense to tell–it’s the story of how the rebels got the DeathStar plans and also explains why the DeathStar was so vulnerable.

It is NOT a feel good Star Wars film by any stretch. It is very dark.

I think any “plan” they had was one of desperation.

There were two characters I LOVED seeing again.

I don’t think it’s a secret that Darth Vader was in the film. He has one of his greatest most badass scenes ever–IMO, in this film.

The other character–well–let’s just say it made me want to cry.

My only negative comment isn’t really negative. I am not a fan at all of Felicity Jones. I just really am not a fan of her as an actress. But she was okay here.

    I think it’s worth seeing.

They probably want to clear the bases so that the new guy–if it’s someone like Shanahan, for instance, can bring in his father to run part of the operation. That may be a selling point to a guy like that. I’m not saying it’s a good or bad thing but Shanahan is likely to have multiple offers and you may need every selling point you can get.

I don’t have a problem with keeping Snead, particularly. But on the other hand I want the Rams to be able to get the best guy possible and the job just looks a little more attractive if the whole operation is offered.
