ModeratorSo, what you’re saying is the Rams are about to go from a Hav, to a Hav not.
nittany ram
Moderatori think he needs at least five highly productive years with the rams before i can say it was a good trade.
I don’t think the Rams are thinking about 5 years from now. I think they’re focusing on just the next several years while Donald, Ramsey, Kupp, and Woods are all under contract. They think Stafford is the missing piece to winning an NFL championship during that time. If that happens, the trade will be a success, if not, the trade will be a failure.

ModeratorClick on this – interesting thread…
Extreme cold in the south was predicted from global warming. How? Increased temperatures at higher latitudes leads to instability in the jet stream, a current of air which circles the north & keeps the super-cold (polar vortex) contained.

February 2, 2021 at 9:47 am in reply to: Rams were good at 3rd n long in 2020, guess who was better #127491nittany ram
ModeratorThey converted third and longs frequently in 2020. Though “frequently” is a relative term–even the best doesn’t even reach 39%.
There’s actually a site that keeps stats on third and long. Goff threw them 48 times and converted a third of them, which ranks him 8th in the league. He was better at that than Brees, Watson, Rodgers, Wilson, Ryan, and Brady.
Ah but, Stafford btw ranks 1st. He converted 38.7% of 62 attempts. He was better at that than everybody.
Those numbers are here: http://stats.washingtonpost.com/fb/leaders.asp?type=Passing&range=NFL&rank=047
And it’s nice that Stafford is ranked first on that stat. 😎
Thanks for confirming what I always suspected…
You hate Goff.

ModeratorOkay, but Pleasant was secondary coach, and left for the position of secondary coach/passing game coordinator.
I don’t know what that means, but it kind of looks like a paper promotion.
Nah, Pleasant was only the CB coach with the Rams.
My question is, as highly regarded as he is, why was he only the CB coach? I mean, he’s been talked about as a potential defensive coordinator. Sorta surprised the Rams didn’t make an effort to keep him.

ModeratorHave there been any lateral moves or has everyone that left the Rams getting a better job?
Well, the Rams can block lateral moves.
Sure. So everyone that left the Rams got a promotion. It wouldn’t surprise me if McVay is hard to work for, but coaches leaving for a better job isn’t evidence of that.
nittany ram
ModeratorI cannot resist the suspicion that people don’t love working for Sean McVay.

ModeratorOn the ‘falling out of love with his stars’ thing.
Todd Gurley had a 3.5 yard rushing average for the Falcons.
Gained less than 700 yards.I dont think McVay ‘fell out of love’ with Todd.
I think Todd hurt his knee.w
vAnd Cooks had like 6 concussions and his production dropped way off.

ModeratorNow that it's verified, after doing some math, Rams can knock themselves up into the top-10 in cap space available by restructuring Donald, Ramsey, and then extend Stafford's contract.
Will put them at about 21M in available room.

ModeratorI like Stafford’s game. He has arm talent is in excess of Goff’s. But, game in, game out, his track record is meh. Yeah, you can blame a lot of that on his surroundings. But not all of it.
If I had to choose between either QB for right now, I’d take Stafford. But he’ll turn 33 next month, so I wouldn’t choose him over Goff to “build a team around.” Goff turns 27 in October. I’m taking him for the future.
But what I find truly appalling is how much the Rams gave up in this trade. To me, it really should have been a one to one swap, at most. In fact, the Lions should have given the Rams a draft pick. Instead, the Rams made a trade, in terms of value given away, for a perennial All-Pro, in the top five, league-wise, at least. That’s not Stafford.
Dumb, dumb, dumb trade. And the Rams basically mortgaged their future on this one.
Alot of whether this trade makes sense or not depends on how good you think Stafford is. I don’t watch him a lot, but he always struck me as having about the same talent as Goff, Ryan, etc. If that’s the case, the trade doesn’t make much sense.
But there are a lot of guys who think he is much better than that. Many think that with better coaching and personnel around him, he will be borderline elite to elite. I don’t know.
The other thing people who do like this trade are saying is that the reason why the price for Stafford was so steep, was to get Detroit to take on Goff’s contract. A contract McVay and Snead were only too happy to sign a year and a half ago.
This may be the defining moment of the McSnead era in LA. I just hope Stafford is everything they think he is, because if he isn’t, then this could be the beginning of their end.
nittany ram
ModeratorWell…
I’m still digesting this, so I haven’t completely formed my opinion about this trade.
But in the end I guess I trust McVay to know what he needs to make his offense perform the way he wants it to.

ModeratorD’Marco Farr was on 101.1 in St. Louis this morning.
He’s pretty much convinced Snead and McVay are just trying to motivate Goff.
I’m wondering if they are trying to intimidate Goff and his agent to get him to redo his contract.
But that has never happened in the history of ever. No player ever gave back money because the performance didn’t match expectation. And if they just needed to redo the contract in order to sign someone else, this isn’t the way to go about that.
The only explanation that makes any sense is the motivational expectation, but man… this is a bad way to do it. This is the first major screw up we have seen from the front office in years.
I’m going by what has been said by McVay and Snead.
McVay wouldn’t commit to Goff being the starter next season. That could be motivational.
Snead wouldn’t commit to Goff being a Ram next season. That’s not motivational because Goff can’t do anything to demonstrate he’s going to cut down on turnovers and be a better QB before next season starts.
That to me is a threat. And Snead knows the only thing Goff can do over the off-season to alleviate that is to address one of the main issues behind this entire mess – his contract.

ModeratorI expect Staley to poach a couple coaches from this staff. I offer the Special Teams coach.
Yeah, he hasn’t been around long enough to know any coaches other than Rams coaches, so I expect him to try and poach a few…

ModeratorThere’s a lot of internet chatter about a possible trade for D. Watson. Steven A Smith said an unnamed source within the Rams organization said that was a possibility, but mostly all this is just hopeful fans talking.
My bet is Goff and Wolford will compete for the starting job in camp.
nittany ram
ModeratorGoff needs a clean pocket and he gets too few of those against better defenses, so I think an upgrade of the oline is in order.
They need to develop or obtain a deep threat at WR. Van Jefferson is supposed to be fast so maybe he can fill that niche?
The d-line has nice complimentary players, but, as we saw yesterday, they can’t hold up against a good o-line when Donald isn’t there to draw all the attention. I would like to see them add talent here, but given their cap situation, maybe this is something the Rams need to live with and just bank on Donald remaining healthy.
Last year there was significant roster turnover in players and coaches, and that will happen this year too. Hopefully the Rams do as good a job filling the holes as they did this season.

ModeratorI want to take a moment to thank Zooey for his sensitivity and marvel at his singular insight. He is, as always, correct. This morning I find myself exactly where I was after the game – adrift in a sea of disappointment.
Why?
Because, once again, the Rams failed to take care of business in Seattle.
Yes, the Rams won the game, and afterwards the Seahawks players limped off the field battered, beaten, dejected…but alive.
That’s right. They still live.
Will this team ever put together a complete game?

ModeratorWhat worries me about this sort of game is suffering a catastrophic injury to a key player.
Not that it’s more likely to happen against the Jets than anyone else, but when winning the game isn’t the biggest worry, the next biggest worry takes center stage.

ModeratorIt would be something to go beat New Orleans in New Orleans again, though, eh?
I think it would be cool if the Rams go to New Orleans for the title game, have a horrible PI call go against them, but they overcome it and win easily anyway.
