Stop the presses {yawn}. Skip Bayless hates the Rams more than he hates the Commanders. That’s unnatural for a Cowboys fan. There has to be an Inciting Incident, and I’d like to know what it is.

== Well, he does indeed hate the Rams, but it might just be media-schtick with Shannon Sharpe. Cuz Shannon always takes the Rams’ side. Ya know. Bayless calls McVay ‘mc-yay’ ever since McVay ran down the sideline to congratulate desean jackson on the long td pass. w v

I think it’s because McVay is 3-1 vs the Cowboys and 3-0 against his favorite player (Tom Brady) since he became a Buccaneer.

And with all that success — they still barely won. The 49ers are just beasts. And one would think SF will be better next year. Add a weapon or two. NFC West. w v

True, the 9ers may be beasts next year – depends on how quickly their rookie QB develops.

But the reason the game was so tight was largely due to the Rams shooting themselves in the foot.

    – Stafford forced a pass to Kupp that was tipped and picked off in the end zone. That cost the Rams 3 pts.

-Kupp dropped a pass that, had he caught it, he likely would have been able to run inside the 9ers’ 10 yard line.

    -Skowronek dropped a TD pass.

-Gay missed a long but make-able FG.

-Ramsey dropped an INT deep in 9ers’ territory.

The Rams should have won the game by a comfortable margin.

That said, I am always impressed with the 9ers’ toughness. And Debo may be the best weapon in football.  Fortunately for the Rams, Jimmy G was an anchor around their necks last night.  His limitations are the only thing holding them back. If Trey Lance develops into a good QB, look out.

Rams set new NFC title game record for the largest deficit overcome 10 pts.

The Rams made a ton of mistakes but had the grit to overcome them.  Hard fought win against a tough team.

Ernest Jones should make a difference as well.

Earnest Jones likely wouldn’t miss that tackle on Fournette like Reeder did on that 4th and 1.

Game over right there if the unblocked Reeder makes that tackle.  I’m not picking on him because I think he played well overall, and he made that right read and was able to shoot the gap untouched – but ugh- ya gotta make that tackle.

Yeah, I trust him to be like Favre. Not Brady. And yeah, I’ll take it. But it aint always gonna be pretty. w v

To me Stafford is like Elway only in the sense that he’s a gunslinger and has Uber-confidence in his arm and his ability to fit the ball into tight places.  Now he’s way more accurate than Elway ever was but, like Elway, when you have that attitude and the arm to back it up it means that you’re going to make a lot of hi-lite type throws, but you’re also going to throw some picks. We just got to hope that the former continues to occur at a higher frequency than the latter.

Orlovsky said that there wasn’t a defensive breakdown on that 70 yd pass to Kupp. He said Stafford held the safety in the center of the field with his eyes so that Kupp could break open.

For sure Vermeil would top that list if he had stayed.

The surprise for me is Knox. I would have guessed he had won more than 3. The Rams won the division 7 times in a row in the 70s. And Knox won only 3 games?

Malavasi was head coach for the 7th championship in that streak.

Knox was HC for 6 of those seasons. He made the playoffs each season and never made it to the Super Bowl, so he would have to have 6 losses. So how can he be 3-5?

And the final piece is in place.

Not even something as stupid as going empty backfield on 3rd and a foot could keep the Rams out of the Super Bowl now.

    Kupp: 158.3
    All other WRs: 16.3

    O-kay.

    1. Bench every receiver except Kupp.
    2. Replace benched receivers with extra o-linemen.
    3. Hoist Lombardi Trophy in February.

Again, if we don’t get to the NFC Title game, it will go down as a failed season.

    =====

Well, the media says that so often its become a mantra,
but I dont know why thats more true now with the rams, than
    any season with any team.

I think that kind of mantra ignores 12 wins and all the
good stuff they’ve done this year.

So for me, i just reject that whole “failed season” thing.

Also, I think their window is still open for a couple more
years or so. I just think what they need to do is simply
add a couple god-dam OLineman. Instead of tutus.

    w
    v

I agree with all that. They got two or three more years – maybe longer if they draft really well in the later rounds…

It’s amazing the accolades the Rams o-line always gets from sources like PFF, but when they face the really stout defensive fronts they crumble like a tray of Apple Brown Betty.

You liked Dont Look Up, but do you see my point? It never expressly
called out Capitalism. Never named it. Why do you think that is?

I mean no american film ‘ever’ ‘does’. Its not an accident.

    w
    v

I think the simple explanation is that most people (especially the limousine libs that work in Hollywood) don’t believe Capitalism is at fault for what’s happening. I don’t think they see it as *necessarily* bad. They see it as something that is often misused, but redeemable and maybe even good when not wielded by greedy industrialists and billionaires.

I see it as a loaded gun in a room full of 3 year olds. No matter how you mitigate it, it won’t end well.

But I’ve become a mono-maniac about capitalism in these late-stage-days,

    to rip it to pieces.

Having Stafford as your QB is like having an Aston Martin with a bad timing belt.

Good looking but lots of misfires.

This hit piece on Stafford I just can’t take seriously. Brady was shut out by a struggling Saints team, Rogers lost to the same Vikings team the Stafford led Rams never trailed in their win Sunday. A win that includes 3 ints including 1 stupid throw into very good double coverage 1 deflected at the los (it happens, it happened to Brady when we played him happened to Rodgers when we played him
Happened to Mahomes many times this year)
Stafford didn’t melt down instead he hits Kupp on a clutch 3rd down throw for 37 yards and sealed the win with a laser to OBJ.

Stafford has 13 INTs. Same as perennial MVP candidates Mahomes and Lamar Jackson. That’s one less than the hero of the hour Joe Burrow, only one more than super star Josh Allen, and only two more than the GOAT, Tom Brady. He’s also 2nd in TD passes, 4th in QBR, and he’s top 3 or better in about a dozen QB categories.

Yeah, he’s had some bad games. I think he’s hurt. But that article was over the top.

I see Stafford is taking some lumps for his performance:

    21 for 37, 197 yds, 1 TD, 3 INT

Yeah, not his best, but Joe Namath went to the HOF putting up numbers like that every week. 😉

Stafford was bad but McVay is even more frustrating. Either he just can’t read the flow of a game, or he simple disregards it and calls whatever he wants to call regardless of what’s happening right in front of him.

The running game was outstanding even with having to shuffle the o-line a bit, and the defense continues to impress. Minnesota is a tough out and given everything the Rams have been dealing with the last few weeks plus the short week, this was a good win.

I have been somewhat cheered up by the loss of Dalvin Cook for this game.

I think Rams by 3 sounds right.

At the risk of killing your buzz you do know Whitworth and possibly Noteboom aren’t playing, right?

The Rams seemed to play more man coverage yesterday than they have recently, and it clearly suited Darious Williams and David Long jnr. They easily played their best games of the season so far.

Darious Williams had a Pro Bowl caliber season last year playing in a defense that played a lot of man coverage. I hope the Rams continue to do that.

Taking an injury/covid depleted team into Arizona and getting a victory was a masterful coaching performance by McVay. I’m not refering to strategy/play design. I mean coaching.

I have already seen enough of this year’s Rams to know what’s going to happen on Monday. They look like world beaters vs. Sub .500 teams, but aside from the Tampa game, their weaknesses are easily exploited by good teams. I would expect Arizona to target any player not named Ramsey all night. I think that Murray will have plenty of time to sit in the pocket to find his open receivers. I think the Cardinals defense will pressure Stafford into a couple of turnovers. I don’t expect his game to be all that close. Cardinals win by at least ten to thirteen.

    Yup.
