I dunno, but i just think this is what the Rams Offense looks like when you take away the run. The Giants took away the run. And when that happens, all those short passes by the rams dont amount to much.
right now i’m thinking it’s one of two things.
either mcvay has no plan for when the rams run game is stalled.
or mcvay knows the oline can’t hold up if they go too pass heavy.
the other possibility of course is that goff needs the run game to thrive. i don’t think that’s the case though. goff looked good today.
InvaderRamModeratorSo, one wonders if maybe they just stopped a lot of the Rams tendencies. Which would mean, some low-scoring games to come — unless McV adjusts.
i bet it’s some of that. i thought goff did a good job. the defense seemed to be taking a lot of stuff away and he would have to go through his progressions. and he was still producing. hopefully mcvay self scouts and makes the offense less predictable.
some of it is probably just a very desperate giants team that was backed into a corner.
i’m most disturbed by the rams horrendous inability to tackle. they were getting gashed. this defense is definitely flawed.
InvaderRamModeratorAnd I’m no expert, but when I was watching Goff, it appeared he was going through his progressions.
i saw the same thing, and the announcers kept mentioning it.

The Rams are going to win today, but by how much is the question.they should win by a lot.
if they don’t, i’ll be disappointed.
InvaderRamModeratornice one, ag.

there’s also this comment from blythe on corbett.
Last week, Austin Corbett was fourth among offensive guards (77 percent) in run block win rate. From Blythe’s point of view, Corbett symbolizes the attitude and mindset of this year’s Rams offensive line.
“That kid’s strength and explosiveness is what sets him apart,” Blythe said during a video conference with reporters Wednesday. “I mean, you guys have seen it – he comes off the ball and just mauls people. I think that’s been a big reason why our run game’s been good. We’ve just got a lot of guys that come off the ball, and their intent is to maul people. And he’s one of them.”

InvaderRamModeratorWhatever your feelings about PFF position rankings, this is a staggeringly impressive (and unexpected) Rams starting lineup going into Week 4 vs NYG:
JG16 – QB4
DH27 – RB1
CK10 – WR2
RW17 – WR20
TH89 – TE9
GE81 – TE27
AW77 – OT3
DE73 – G9
AB66 – C8
AC63 – G23
RH79 – OT11darrell henderson at number one just blows my mind. i still like akers. if he can come back healthy and productive, i’d say the rams have the most feared rushing attack in the nfl? especially when you include woods.
InvaderRamModeratorCorbett was a steal. I said, repeatedly, that the Browns are a shit show & that they dumped him, in part, because he was a favorite of the Oline coach who criticized the team after being let go. Shocker that a guy with plenty of physical talent could be improving in his 2nd & 3rd years in the league. Shocker.
i was admittedly skeptical at first. physically he was everything you were looking for. but i was surprised that the browns would just let him go. i figured maybe it was something character-wise that turned them off. if it really was just cleaning house, then they must be stupider than i thought.
i feel real good about this offensive line. good combination of experience and untapped potential. my only worry at this point is that blythe is a free agent after this year. if anchrum can replace him after this season. or allen. this offensive line could be something else for the next couple years.
InvaderRamModeratorIs Ma-homes the best football player we’ve seen since….oh, i dunno…Jim Brown?
The Ravens have always had a tough defense. That was not a lousy defense, he was shredding.
I think Mahomes is the best NFL football player, I’ve seen, maybe, ever. I would take him over Lawrence Taylor or Aaron Donald, or any other player i can think of.
i still think aaron donald is better at his position than any other player is at their respective position.
having said that i would take mahomes over anyone else to start a team. because he plays quarterback.
InvaderRamModeratorthey seem to be high on polite. i don’t know. i just know that i’ve seen enough of ebukam. he’s not a starter.
polite’s only 22. he came in with a bad reputation, but maybe he can turn it around. i don’t know. the rams have to try something though.
InvaderRamModeratorLook at 38-year old Andrew Whitworth just casually moving DT Vernon Butler (330 lbs.) with one arm over 5 yards downfield
i wonder if whit’s got another 4 years left in him. i take that dude for granted. but the rams are so lucky to have him.
i just worry about how they’re going to replace him. maybe instead i should just appreciate that the rams have him now.
InvaderRamModeratori’m gonna give this a listen tomorrow morning. love all these podcasts.
InvaderRamModeratornot only did last year help the oline. in a weird way, i bet it helped goff out too. maybe quicken the process for him in terms of diagnosing a defense. decision making.
InvaderRamModeratorMerlin
One thing I haven’t seen mentioned with Goff is his full control now at the line of scrimmage. He is performing final checks there under Center now and each play has a counter he can flip to if he doesn’t like the look. So he has to evaluate the threats and make the call and so far he’s kicking ass.
It’s significant IMO and of course nobody talks about it because McVay probably gives him hand signals since he’s stupid and can’t think for himself right? ‘Effing’ media twits.
yeah. he just seems so dialed in right now. maybe that’s why he looks different this year.

September 30, 2020 at 9:40 pm in reply to: can the Rams manage to squeak by the Giants somehow? #121946InvaderRamModeratori don’t expect the rams to let down. and they’ll be extra motivated given what happened last week.
InvaderRamModeratorMost total pressures generated this season:
1. Aaron Donald – 20
T-2. Myles Garrett/ Joey Bosa – 19
4. T.J. Watt – 18consistently better than all of his peers year in and year out. what a guy.
InvaderRamModeratorIke doesn’t get enough credit for the blocker he was. Packing a punch, putting his body on the line for the success of the play!
i think that gets flagged in today’s game.
InvaderRamModeratorPFF LA Rams@PFF_Rams
Guard David Edwards stepped up big this week, earning his highest pass-blocking grade of his career!Edwards’ pass-block grade so far this season ranks 3rd among all OL, trailing only Ali Marpet and Ronnie Stanley
i keep saying this, but i really like edwards. i think edwards deserves to be starting over noteboom.
InvaderRamModeratorit’s unfortunate that they lost barkley for the season. i mean. i can’t even tell you who else plays on that offense.
InvaderRamModeratorJ.B. Long@JB_Long
Highest-graded @RamsNFL in Week 3 loss at BUF (PFF):AD99 – 87.7
Goff – 85.3
Edwards – 83.2
Kupp – 81.6
Fox – 81.1
Havenstein – 80.6
Henderson – 80.5edwards. i really like this guy. i don’t know about at left tackle. but at least at guard.
henderson looks like a starting rb. i think the henderson/akers combo (when akers gets healthy) will be something else.

InvaderRamModeratorOn defense it’s Donald and Ramsey in the top 10 and everyone else is worse than 30th. Some guys are ranked no better than bartenders. Ebukam is 106, the worst OLB in the league.
yeah. ebukam looks terrible. just terrible.
lewis is eligible to come back. can’t be worse than ebukam???
maybe some jonah williams in the second half???
i do think the defense in the second half will be better than the first half version.
InvaderRamModeratorI’m pissed. We were robbed. That pass interference call was bogus. Darrius Williams had a right to the position.
but also the refs blew the call on the josh allen interception. it all evens out.
InvaderRamModeratorYeah, it’s early, but we can see what’s there to see. It’s not just one thing. The OL is far more solid than it was after 3 games last year, AND the running game is clicking the way it wasn’t by this time last year, AND JG is far more confident and (like you said) in control.
Compare Goff’s first 3 games last year and this year.
2019: 66 of 105, 62.8%, 246 ypg, 7.0 ypa, 4 TDs, 3 Ints, 3 fumbles w/ 2 lost, 2 games w/ qb rating below 80.
2020: 63 of 90, 70%, 287.7 ypg, 9.6 ypa, 5 TDs, 2 Ints, 0 fumbles, 1 game w/ qb rating below 80.i’m actually comparing him to 2017 and 2018.
2017 and 2018 goff started out hotter than 2020 goff. but i think he looks better this year.
it’s early. but what would cement it for me is more consistency from goff this year. in 2017 and 2018, he’d go on stretches where he’d be in a funk. for whatever reason. what i want to see this year is less dips over the 16 game season.
InvaderRamModeratorhe looks different. statistically he’s actually started better out the gate than he has this season. but he somehow looks more in control this season. i don’t know. it’s still too early. it’s only been 3 games. need more data.
what i want to see from him is consistency. in previous years it seemed like goff would go through some funks after looking like a world beater before. i want to see less dips.
InvaderRamModeratorSosa K@QBsMVP
There’s maybe one area of genuine concern for me as it pertains to the Rams – the pass rush. Outside of Aaron Donald, they’re just bad. They made some big plays down the line today (mostly #99) but they have barely gotten any pressure over 3 games now.Very concerning.
yeah. again. i hope lewis comes back healthy and stays healthy. he could be the key to truly unlocking this defense… into becoming a lockdown defense???
rams need a pass rush.
InvaderRamModeratorthat missed fg really hurts.
defense has to get better. donald is the best, but he can’t do it all himself. my hope is that lewis can make an impact. he’s got the physical ability but can he stay healthy? i hope to see jonah williams at some point too.
ebukam stinks. he’s not good enough.
InvaderRamModeratorAnd I don’t know what “escape hatches” Goff lost.
i don’t watch other football teams, so i can’t comment on them. but i will comment on the rams.
goff has 4 legitimate targets in woods, kupp, higbee, and now jefferson.
and despite having 4 legitimate targets, the rams are third in the league in rushing attempts (actually second if you exclude the dolphins third game on thursday. and they’re third in the league in rushing yards.
so as dangerous as their passing offense is, mcvay believes in the rams’ running game that much.
they are 30th in passing attempts but third in ypa. so it’s not like mcvay is afraid of passing it cuz when they do they do some serious damage.
that’s a lot for any defense to handle.
and while they did lose noteboom, i’m actually a lot higher on edwards than i was on joseph. i think he’ll be better in the run game, and he should be good enough in the passing game. it’s too bad akers can’t play.
should be interesting to see how this offense holds up over 16 games.
