InvaderRamModeratorAfter initially listing Terrell Lewis as a third-string OLB, the Rams have now moved him into a co-starter spot with Justin Hollinsinteresting. i like the battle going on there. hopefully we can see these edge rushers play a little bit tomorrow.
InvaderRamModeratorDaniel Hardy over Terrell Lewis on the first unofficial depth charti love to hear it. i really like this guy. long. explosive. quick. and he seems to have the mental makeup but who knows?
InvaderRamModeratorhttps://sicscore.com/nfl/updates/why-matthew-staffords-elbow-injury-is-not-as-concerning-as-it-seems
Why Matthew Stafford’s Elbow Injury Is Not As Concerning as It Seems
Reigning Super Bowl champion Matthew Stafford has reportedly been dealing with a throwing elbow issue during training camp and fans are understandably concerned.
However, it is unlikely that Stafford is dealing with a ulnar collateral ligament injury in his elbow and the Pro Football Docs do not have any concern for his availability or effectiveness for the upcoming regular season.
Matthew Stafford – SIC score 92
Head Coach Sean McVay has been cryptic about Stafford’s exact injury but said it’s “a little bit abnormal for a quarterback” and is something that MLB pitchers deal with.
The Rams’ head coach has not confirmed that the issue is tendonitis, but the Pro Football Docs believe Stafford is dealing with medial flexor wad tendonitis.
That common baseball injury would affect Stafford’s ability to grip and likely hurt when he flicks his wrist on the follow through of his throws.
It is primarily a pain-tolerance issue and thus the 34-year-old quarterback is not getting a downgrade in his SIC score.
He is still at a 92 because the issue is not likely to keep him out of any games. There is a slight chance it could affect his accuracy on deep throws, but that would only happen if the tendon were significantly aggravated.
The Rams are, smartly, managing Stafford’s throwing reps so that the tendonitis does not turn into a chronic pain issue.
The Pro Football Docs would not be surprised to see Stafford throwing with a smaller, college-size football at some point during training camp to reduce stress on the flexor tendon when he grips the ball.
Stafford confirmed that he received a PRP injection in his right elbow after the Super Bowl for an issue that he played through last season.
This is likely that same issue because tendonitis can linger. Stafford has been throwing in individual and 7-on-7 drills early in training camp and McVay told reporters he doesn’t expect Stafford to participate in team drills before the Rams leave Irvine on Aug. 10.
That does not mean he has suffered any sort of setback. It likely means the team has known about this issue for awhile and they are taking a measured approach to getting him ready for the regular season.
Stafford has been known to play through injuries in his career and his approach to this tendonitis is likely no different.
The only thing that would sideline Stafford is if he aggravates the flexor tendon to a point where he can’t grip the ball. That’s what the team is trying to avoid by limiting his reps.
Last season – Stafford’s first with the Rams after 12 with the Detroit Lions – he threw for 4,886 yards with 41 touchdowns and 17 interceptions while completing 67.2% of his passes, tying a career-high from 2015.
In four playoff games, Stafford threw for a total of 1,188 yards, 9 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
Rams Super Bowl LVII Odds
The Rams are +1100 to repeat as Super Bowl champions and are +125 to win the NFC West, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.
Stafford is +800 to lead the league in passing yards this season and +1400 for MVP.
InvaderRamModeratori might be imagining it but i felt like his long ball started to slip toward the last half of the season. i don’t know if that had anything to do with the elbow. but the short and medium range passing looked fine.
maybe the rams will be better prepared this time around.
InvaderRamModeratorInvaderRamModeratora little bit.
InvaderRamModeratorMy point was, the PA would not do that because it’s Watson or because they are on his side. It would simply be a matter of how suspensions are handled in all cases like this. It’s just a matter of how the rules are applied.
yeah.
InvaderRamModeratorwell actually the nflpa had said it would sue if the suspension was for a year. i don’t know if it’d be on watson’s behalf or what. i don’t really care. i don’t understand the legality of all of it. i also read that the nflpa will challenge if the league tries to go against the decision and punish him for more.
my only point is that this is all a mess. everyone knows something happened. but how do you suspend him a year if predetermined protocols say 6 games?
it’s all very sad.
InvaderRamModeratorbut still no conviction. and i just read that the nflpa will fight if they try to suspend him for more. that’s just all horrible.
There was no conviction because there was no trial and there was no trial because it was hard to prove what happened in one on one encounters. The PA would not sue on Watson’s behalf, that would be entirely procedural in terms of what the agreed on protocols for suspensions are. It’s not this case, it’s any case that in the PA’s eyes pushes agreed upon protocols. You do not pay off more than 2 dozen women with settlements if it’s nothing.
i never said the pa would sue. i never said nothing happened.
i’m just saying the whole thing is a mess.
InvaderRamModeratorbut still no conviction. and i just read that the nflpa will fight if they try to suspend him for more.
that’s just all horrible.
InvaderRamModeratorI have no idea what ‘justice’ looks like in a case that does not go to trial, and where two grand juries decided there was not enough evidence to indict, and where we dont know all the facts…..but…where 24 women have prettymuch told the same story. How in the world do you add up all the knowns and unknowns in a case like this, and then do all the human-algebra and then turn it into “X number of game suspensions.” The whole, entire, situation is post-modernly-surreal. Thats all i got. w v
yeah.
the whole thing is just strange. i don’t really know much about the details. the only thing i can think of in recent memory that compares is that whole ben roethlisberger controversy that happened ten years ago. i just looked it up, and he was also suspended for 6 games. roethlisberger for sexual assault and watson for sexual misconduct. not sure if there’s a difference between those two words.
InvaderRamModeratori like morris. we’ll see. not sure how good he really is as a coordinator cuz he really hasn’t had much experience actually doing it. i think he pretty much went from position coach straight to head coach with a couple of stints as a coordinator here and there.
but every coach needs talent to work with.
InvaderRamModeratorRamsey has seen Wagner and Jones work together in the early portions of training camp, as well as some OTA sessions this spring, and he expects big things out of this pairing. On Tuesday, Ramsey tweeted that Wagner and Jones are “about to have a special year.”
love to hear it.
InvaderRamModeratorif cam akers comes back healthy, wow. that could be a game changer. ranked 25th in rushing last year.
if they could be in the top 10 rushing, how much more dangerous could this offense be?
InvaderRamModeratorRoger Carter, Georgia State, TE
BAUMGARDNER My favorite of this group and just a great example of a unique position that continues to see more attention from smart organizations. Everyone calls it something different, be it the F or an H-back or another nickname. Utility knife, is my term. Carter is so springy athletically for a man his size and his agility is not only good enough to make him interesting in the pass game, but this is the type of player teams can move around as a blocker to add value. Not unlike the Ravens and 49ers have done with Kyle Juszczyk over the years.
RODRIGUE: It should be noted that the Rams’ “F” spot — if they continue to utilize it similarly to how they have in previous years — is essentially up for grabs after the Robert Woods trade. This signing is also super intriguing to me because Carter seems to be a pivot from the “gadget”-type player head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead have previously gravitated toward — the super-light, super-fast players who haven’t necessarily panned out. I think Carter will make the final roster.
love this pick. bummed when they released him. pleasantly surprised when they brought him back. i could see him being like a jordan reed type player for mcvay.
InvaderRamModeratorI think the board-consensus is they need a healthy OBJ for the big moments in the close games down the stretch.
if odell comes back, he’s the most talented receiver on the rams roster.
InvaderRamModeratorjust insane.

InvaderRamModeratormaybe i’m stating the obvious, but i think three things hurt torry.
- he played with a cast full of hall of famers in faulk, warner, pace, and bruce.
- the lack of touchdowns. he’s 39th all time in receiving touchdowns.
- longevity. injuries cut his career short. if he had played even just two more healthy seasons, he likely would be in the top 10 in receiving yards. if he played four more healthy seasons, he likely would be top 5 in receiving yards – possibly even ahead of randy moss. and that’s being conservative.
i think he’ll eventually make it though.
InvaderRamModeratori really hope he comes back with the rams. but the longer it goes the less optimistic i become.
but if he does come back, potentially the most talented wr corps in rams’ history. i mean bruce and holt better as a duo, but wouldn’t be able to match whoever is at number 3. whether that be obj or robinson.
InvaderRamModeratori agree with ed. jackson was very underrated mostly because of the circumstances surrounding him.
June 11, 2022 at 12:50 pm in reply to: I used to go on about McV needing to be more of a collaborator #139278InvaderRamModeratorif the rams can keep their egos in check. and if they can have luck with injuries.
this team could do some good things the next three years.
InvaderRamModeratoralso. the new tv deals kick in starting 2023. and you figure the salary cap and will shoot up at that point.
edit… i just checked. it will almost double the value of the previous contracts.

InvaderRamModeratorif he can get one more all pro then he moves closer.
if he can get two more all pros, then holy crap. he’s in serious consideration for best ever. two more would give him the most ever by a defensive player and only one behind rice who has the most ever period.
if he can add one more dpoy which is a hell of an ask, then the argument is most likely over. but that’s just about impossible. it would be unprecedented.
InvaderRamModeratorand it sounds like it’s very likely that obj will be back. i don’t know if they’ll repeat, but i don’t think the rams could have done much more this off-season to put themselves in position to get back.
InvaderRamModeratorI figure MS is good for another 3-4 years (though maybe that’s what you meant by the window closing…I tend to think of 3-4 years as being a more sustained thing than what the phrase “window closing” means, or that’s how I take it anyway).
that is what i was thinking. four years at the most. three years is when donald’s current contract could run out. possibly one year after that with some luck?
like zooey said the rams really lucked out with donald. not just your standard run of the mill hall of famer. we’re talking about an all time great. the discussion with him will not be his hall of fame credentials. it’s obvious to everyone that he’s a hall of famer. the discussion will be his credentials as they compare across generations and across different positions.
the rams realize this. any discussion of his demands being too much or unrealistic. i think it’s shortsighted. and while i think winning more superbowls is important, it is almost as important that donald fully flesh out his career in a rams uniform. eight years would have been enough. but eleven years and possibly one more superbowl mixed in? that’s a legacy that will last for generations. more than any player from the gsot era. even bruce.
because right or wrong that’s what will win fans’ hearts. los angeles is full of them. the rams need someone to hold that torch.
matt stafford can’t do that for this team. too much of his legacy is tied to the lions. coop? as much as i love him his talent is not transcendent. he’s only really had one great season. ramsey possibly? but donald unquestionably.
they had to bring him back.
InvaderRamModeratorJB@JB_Peeples Being a fan of the Rams is so freaking exciting… this offseason they have extended Stafford and AD plus signed Wagner and Robinson all coming off a Super Bowl win. It makes those years of awful awful football so worth it.
i think the organization realizes the window is rapidly closing. and they might not get another opportunity like this for a long time. i think it’s a sound strategy even though you might be paying for it down the road.
InvaderRamModeratorsounds about right.
he’s been as important as any other player on the rams. although i understand that qb is the more impactful position.
the only thing holding him back historically at this point is longevity. he only has eight years under his belt. assuming he plays out his contract, he will have 11 years under his belt. it’ll be interesting to see where he is at that point.
InvaderRamModeratorinteresting. all this time i was thinking how wags was gonna make this defense better.
but now i’m wondering how can this scheme make wags better? with all this talk about split coverages and making the defense more multiple or adaptable i guess. and the potential to put wags in even better situations than he was while with seattle.
also very excited to see how the wags/jones pair works out.
InvaderRamModerator2nd and a 5th.
