    I feel we need to find, and sign gems, that come from undrafted players. Some of those UDFAs will be on the roster.

    They always are. The Snead Rams have a long record of doing well with UDFAs.

    Evans played quarterback his senior year at Hartsville High School in South Carolina after playing the two prior seasons at running back, rushing for over 2,000 yards in each of those years. He signed with Hutchinson Community College for 2019 (538 yards, nine TDs rushing; two kick return TDs in 12 games) but the school did not play in 2020 due to COVID-19 concerns. Evans enrolled at Tennessee in January 2021, but injuries limited him to two starts in seven contests (81-525-6.5, six TDs rushing; 4-74-18.5, one TD receiving). He entered the transfer portal before the Volunteers’ final game and landed at Louisville for the 2022 campaign. He again was sidelined by injury but started six of eight appearances (83-525-6.3, six TDs rushing; 6-13-2.2 receiving) to garner honorable mention All-ACC honors. — by Chad Reuter

    Analysis

    Low-cut back with a muscular frame and an unpolished running style. Evans is ready to charge ahead and find the action on every snap, but he needs to run with better tempo and patience to allow his blocks to develop. He has sudden feet and good burst as both an inside and outside runner. He also has the contact balance to keep runs alive. His vision and feel for setting up blocks isn’t great, though. Evans’ lack of third down value and special teams experience will make it more challenging for him to earn a RB3 spot.

    • Compact frame with low center of gravity.
    • Burst to outrun linebackers to the corner.
    • Feet stay close to the ground, improving contact balance.
    • Sneaks out of side pocket with sudden, lateral slides.
    • Keeps feet moving and probing through contact.
    • Finishes with acceleration into contact.

    Weaknesses
    • Fumbled three times on 83 carries in 2022.
    • Running style lacks rhythm and tempo.
    • Rushes and fails to allow blocks to develop.
    • Lacks feel for press-and-cut on zone runs.

    Dunn was Automatic in 2022. He has never missed a PAT (200/200). In 2022 he went 28/29 and 2/2 from 50+. His longest make was 53 yards. Kickers are important and the Rams landed a good one.

    Jordan Jones is a 5’10 186 CB from Rhode Island. He is fluid in coverage and has great route recognition. Good ball skills are evident by his 9 INTs and 17 PBU over 2 i years as a starter. He played outside but can play slot as well

    He’s a willing run defender despite his size and he is actually a solid tackler. He played well against Pitt in 2022 only giving up one catch for 2 yards. He has good closing speed and can click and close on the ball in a flash. His tape is full of acrobatic plays

    He’s competitive and fluid. He has already been a Ram for 4 years. Perfect fit! He’s smart and instinctive. His INTs remind me of some of the crazy picks we saw from Darious Williams.

    Thanks for posting UDFA news. I think the Rams likely found their specialists, a backup corner or two, some backfield help, and a gadget guy who may get a few snaps a game. Wish the latter could have been Keaton Mitchell, though, signed by the Ravens after the Draft. He would have been a great addition to the McVay offense.

    Just a side note on the use of those RAS scores. IMO, the total score isn’t all that useful, because of the impact of height and weight, especially, and some players not being tested on some of the metrics. To me, it makes more sense to use the individual tests listed instead.

    That’s helpful info. Focus on the vert, broad, forty time, 10-yard split, 3-cone, shuttle, etc. Hand size is relevant for obvious reasons, depending on position. Wideouts, running backs, centers, QBs seem obvious candidates. Arm length matters for some positions, but not really others, etc.  Wideouts, TEs, corners, safeties, edges, tackles, linebackers, etc. Who really cares about arm length when it comes to QBs, running backs, and so on? Seems to matter to coaches/staff in deciding whether a player should be a tackle or move to guard, but most are gonna be smart enough to go case by case there.

    Anyway, the reason I bring this up is that I’ve noticed some of those RAS scores seem to be lower for some players who really did great in areas that matter most to their own positions. But they get dinged for the height/weight stuff, etc. I’ve also noticed that small differences there seem to matter a lot. Too much, in my view.

    Just my two cents . . .

    Thank you for saying that. Draft days here always benefit from your own investment in the issue. You and Invader and Jack. In terms of posting the info, frankly this is a bit exhausting! There are soooo many. I don’t have any idea which ones to focus on.

    This is an example of Kroenke being an open-pocketbook owner. UDFAs are not cheap. Lately many across the league have been getting guaranteed contracts that are bigger than the contracts for lower round picks. That means that essentially, teams are buying them. The Rams reportedly at this point have 23 UDFAs. That’s a big investment. Kroenke is buying these guys. That’s straight-up out of pocket money.

    And the Rams generally score with them too. They always have a few UDFAs on the roster and seem to come up with a decent contributor or two every year.

    The Rams added one last UDFA, Sam James. James is a 6’ 185 WR from West Virginia. James is a speedy and shifty WR who played outside early in his career and then became a slot. IMO he was the better WR at West Virginia. He is a shifty slot WR who can get YAC. He is smooth in and out of his breaks. James is able to win vertically. He has good ball tracking and body control. He didn’t test well but his tape shows a guy who can get separation and make plays. He adds value as a kick returner as well. James has good vision with the ball in his hands. He did struggle with drops at WVU. James is an underrated WR who could have made a bigger impact and name for himself if not for his drops.

    Matthew Jester is a 6’3 252 EDGE from Princeton. However he worked out as a FB as well at Princeton’s pro day. He’s an athletic specimen and strong. The Rams view him as an NFL FB.
    At Princeton’s pro day he was out through FB drills and impressed teams in attendance. He was a smooth catcher of the ball per reports. The Rams may be finally adding a FB to their team.

    Looks like Jester is the better athlete, and a tad bigger. They may have found a hidden gem.
