InvaderRamModerator
so just by coincidence goff was wearing blue with flecks of gold and wentz was wearing green highlights?
InvaderRamModeratorhis redzone production was ridonkulous.
InvaderRamModeratorwe hardly knew you, nick. good luck wherever you end up.
InvaderRamModeratori’m not sure. but it makes sense to wait.
InvaderRamModeratorI don’t care anymore.
Originally, I was for Wentz. Then I moved towards Goff.
But then I moved towards “why be emotionally invested in this pick when I don’t know the first thing about it, and basically nobody knows how this will turn out anyway?”
Go #1 pick!
yeah the suspense is annoying me.
let’s get the pick in already.
InvaderRamModeratori’m really digging this thomas duarte kid. from ucla. played wide receiver but projects to be an h back type.
rams need a receiving tight end.
InvaderRamModerator?
Man they ain’t trading Keenum.
They finally get a #2 qb who can actually win some games. They ain’t letting THAT go. The Fisher Rams have learned the hard way that the guy who is the starter in the off-season may not play all 16 games. To be euphemistic about it.
i agree. it’d have to be for something the other team wouldn’t be willing to give up.
InvaderRamModeratorthe one thing about goff’s stats. how much of it was padded because cal was in a hopeless situation? wentz’s stats always counted for something because the team was usually winning.
on the other hand, if you watch wentz in the national championship game, that defense was awesome. they almost always put carson in good situations where there wasn’t much pressure on him to drive the length of the field.
tough choice.
one other thing about goff. spread qbs are often criticized because they lag far behind in footwork and pocket presence. but for goff. because of a poor supporting cast. he was forced to develop these skills and they’re actually cited as a strength.
how many college highlights did we see of bradford just standing there. tons of time to throw and no pass rush around him? and in the pros he suffered cuz he couldn’t sense the pass rush around him. i don’t think goff will have that problem and in some ways he’s actually ahead of wentz. goff still has to get used to playing under center and more importantly learn play action where he’ll have his back to the defense. but in terms of pocket presence and always being in a good position to throw i think he’ll be ahead of wentz. plus i think he had more presnap responsibilities than most spread qbs if we are to believe what we read.

InvaderRamModeratori still think the rams could surprise everyone and pick wentz who seems to be the underdog.
InvaderRamModeratori don’t like kroenke for a lot of reasons but i don’t necessarily fault him for his coaching hires. in fact, i would be on board with giving fisher an extension. making a change just to make a change isn’t going to necessarily make things better especially when they’re now going to be developing a first round qb.
and as far as arsenal goes, spending money just to spend money isn’t necessarily going to buy championships. wenger has a proven track record of recognizing young talent and developing that talent. i know that a lot of arsenal fans earlier were upset that they didn’t hire klopp when he was available but i don’t know that he was for sure an upgrade over wenger or that kroenke would even have spent more money as a result. klopp is very much like wenger in that he is more a developer of young talent than a guy who just spends to spend.
InvaderRamModeratorerm. i don’t know. arsenal fans weren’t upset with wenger when they were winning premier league titles and going undefeated for a whole season.
i think mostly they’re upset that kroenke didn’t jump at the chance to sign klopp when he became available. or maybe they wanted guardiola. but i like wenger. i think he’s quality. and i actually like the fact that his strategy isn’t to outspend every other team in europe. that was his strategy before kroenke became majority owner.
InvaderRamModeratorthis is in downtown i think near the gaslamp district. my understanding is the city does not want a stadium in downtown. unless there’s been a change of heart.
InvaderRamModeratorso would there be a sports book like right in the stadium?
black jack tables in the luxury box seats?
a 50 dollar buffet line?
InvaderRamModeratorbiggest test of snead’s career. will he find a team blender or a team divider?
hahahaha!
InvaderRamModeratorthe idea of 2 physical specimens in the backfield such as wentz and gurley is intriguing.
almost like a roethlisberger bell duo.
I was kinda thinking that McNair /George v2 would be too irresistible for Fisher to pass up.
ya never know. the snish has been known to raise an eyebrow or two.

not sure how i feel about this article. almost feels like he’s trying to convince himself he can handle the nfl rather than the reader.
InvaderRamModeratorI’m excited beyond words that the Rams are doing this. This late April draft schedule is agonizing and I’m on pins and needles that it works out.
I prefer Carson Wentz for a few reasons – a shade bigger arm, shade faster, shade smarter and being a consistent winner works for me. I feel he has more upside. I have this inclination that nobody out works Carson Wentz.
I have nothing against Jared Goff if he’s the Rams choice and feel that he would make a great QB.
I feel that which ever guy the Rams pick has an OL that’s about to gel, a stud running back and a solid defense.
All that said, my favorite defensive player in the draft is Buckner from Oregon. I hope the 49ers don’t draft him.
yeah. that backfield is what really gets me excited. if the oline can get it together (this means you grob), i won’t be so concerned about the lack of receivers. it’d be very much a seattle model. awesome defense with an awesome backfield. i’m actually kinda worried about the defense though. a lot of it depends on ogletree continuing his momentum in a new position. and Quinn getting fully fit.
InvaderRamModeratorSimilarly, I wonder if Chip Kelly would want Bradford back?
i think kelly should trade kaepernick for bradford.
InvaderRamModeratorsomeone mentioned rgiii and bradford’s development. i think the most important or one of the most important things for me is that the qb stay healthy and that the qb be able to work in the same system for awhile. those two things were the biggest hindrances to their development from where i stand. both struggled with injuries. both had to change head coaches and offensive systems. cousins of course had to go through the coaching changes but he also had time to just sit and watch and learn and not have to deal with the enormous pressures that come with being that high a pick.
so i think with this. and i know a lot of people are going to hate this. but fisher almost HAS to be given an extension. he needs job security and they need to bring him along at the right pace and in a stable environment.
second. i give a slight edge to goff in terms of durability. he had surgery after his freshman year to fix a separated shoulder but has remained relatively healthy since. wentz on the other hand has only played one full season of college ball. he also misses his junior year in high school due to injuries which at least partially explain why he went to an fcs school. so fair or not i have to give goff the edge here. is wentz going to be guy who gets nicked up all the time? if so then the rams would be better served with the guy who can stay on the field and get reps.
InvaderRamModeratorOkay—I have been pretty consistent with wanting Wentz. That has not changed for me. First of all, I like the running threat he brings to a team that runs a very conservative offense. He’s an extra threat–something the defense has to account for. Watching the NDSU offense felt like watching the Rams offense. He was successful with that. He took care of the football. He managed things very well–and was actually in charge of things at the line. He’s very smart. That tape with Marriucci really impressed me–wheras Goff didn’t quite seem to have the understanding of the play that Wentz did with his.
Yes–he needs to improve things. And he won’t have a championship caliber offensive line around him like he had at NDSU. How will he do when rushed? He doesn’t have quite the pocket movement of Goff but it doesn’t look terrible either. Can he develop a Big Ben sort of pocket ability?
I think he has room to improve and will.
I don’t dislike Goff. He is certainly more in the Montana mold than Wentz. But this kid has no great receivers to help him on this team right now. I don’t know what to expect from the offensive line. He has to make that spread transition. Yes–he has a good back behind him and a bit of a wild card weapon with Tavon–but I see that fitting Wentz better. Goff would thrive with the better downfield receivers or sharp route runners. he doesn’t have Jerry Rice or Issac Bruce.
I see him having a more difficult transition to the NFL with this team.
Now–can he make the receivers better? To a degree–sure. But how much better? And there is no help coming through the draft anytime soon.
Five years from now–with better players–Goff might be the pick.
But to grow with what is already on the team–I just really think Wentz would do better.
good points. i would be happy either way with a slight preference for wentz.
but mostly i’m nervous.
April 24, 2016 at 10:12 pm in reply to: interesting old article…Benoit, "Jared Goff Projects to Stardom" #42556InvaderRamModeratorhis feet and throwing mechanics seem to be impressive to my untrained eye and to have that at 21 years old is even more impressive. it’s already ingrained into his muscle memory and so just a matter of fine tuning it. hopefully he’s a pay attention to detail type and continues to refine these skills.

April 24, 2016 at 7:40 pm in reply to: from around the net… on Goff/Wentz (a must read thread tho long) #42548InvaderRamModeratorone thing i like about goff is his ypa which was 8.9 last year
You know I looked and I couldn’t find any splits that would tell me what percentage of his total attempts were short, long, or medium.
I can find those stats on pro qbs, not college qbs.
yeah. i can only assume from looking at those stats. it’s hard to tell how that ypa number was produced. but just generally looking at the modern day qb, the good ones tend to have a relative high ypa.
edit: i don’t know exactly how true that is about the ypa, but my impression is goff is not just a guy who throws screens and short passes.

i’ve had at least one friend tell me did take a lot of risks at cal which can be both good and bad.
InvaderRamModeratori think goff might be suffering a little bit of overanalysis. kinda like what manning and luck got.
both good and bad. that waldman excerpt is a little bit of nonsense. he’s talking out his ass. i just think that’s how he was coached. his coach had even alluded to it.
not that i hate waldman. i love listening to him.

April 24, 2016 at 1:30 am in reply to: Teams believe Jared Goff to Rams is a 'done deal,' sources say #42504InvaderRamModeratorhe ended up putting up some good numbers against them, but it was all from behind. like behind by a lot.
so i don’t know what to make of that. on one hand, it wasn’t exactly in a competitive situation. then again. the trojans could just tee off on him. so. he was under some real duress.
April 24, 2016 at 12:33 am in reply to: Teams believe Jared Goff to Rams is a 'done deal,' sources say #42501InvaderRamModeratori don’t know if this has been posted before but here is goff’s sophomore game against usc.
InvaderRamModeratori honestly don’t care how often they throw it long. i just want them to be proficient at the mid range passing game. although passing it long might open things up mid range. so i guess it’s good to see they’re throwing it long. but then. the mid range passing game still sucked so…
April 23, 2016 at 11:37 pm in reply to: from around the net… on Goff/Wentz (a must read thread tho long) #42498InvaderRamModeratori do think his arm can get stronger either way. like i said. his coaches said that due to his shoulder injury which he suffered in 2013, he didn’t do much in the way of upper body strength in 2014 or 2015. just working on that i would think you’d see increases in arm strength much like has been seen with tom brady.
April 23, 2016 at 11:28 pm in reply to: Later-round gems can be found at receiver, even in 'down' years #42497InvaderRamModeratornot a wide receiver. but my friend who’s a big ucla fan likes thomas duarte. not much of a blocker but can really catch the ball.
solid athletic numbers. long 33″ arms and 10″ hands.
April 23, 2016 at 10:52 pm in reply to: Later-round gems can be found at receiver, even in 'down' years #42495InvaderRamModeratorthe german unicorn. his short shuttle and 3 cone times are ridiculous. 4.10 and 6.64. decent arm length at 32 5/8″. combine that with a 39″ vertical and his catch radius should be huge. still only 22 years old.
i wonder if he could last until the fourth round. if he does, i’d say swing for the fences.
